I post elevator videos and occasional urbex content in New York City.
2000 FPM Thyssenkrupp Elevators at One World Observatory
These are the fastest elevators in North America tying with Central Park Tower at 2000 FPM! Durst security did not like us filming these for some reason despite the fact that EVERYONE has ridden and filmed these at some point.
Between floors 63 and 77 these elevators are surrounded entirely by other elevator shafts. Between 63 and 91 the “I” bank occupies the space in front of the observatory elevators. I’m curious if people were to get stuck between those floors how they would get people out?

Idk why nobody has filmed this apparently. It’s publicly accessible. This is also known as elevator bank N. This could have easily been a wheelchair lift but instead they put an entire elevator here which I think is really cool! It is the only “scenic” or glass elevator in the building.

This was filmed in June 2019. My dad had a meeting in here and he let me go on an elevator ride. I meant to post this ages ago lol Apparently these were modernized with Compass 360 and new cabs a year later.

I will be in fear of that video. Being on top of an elevator like that super duper scary and very dangerous. Glad you were careful and didn’t let go of anything but I found what you did was horrifying, scary and dangerous good thing no one saw or no death and injuries

Amazing vintage winding drum elevator, DC hoist motor MG set and original controller still in service. This was built to keep on going for decades has done so indeed. Appears to be a 2nd machine in the the room, next to the one that was running, sounds a bit rough on the communicator.

Filmed a month before I left Atlanta for New York for vacation! I stayed at the Omni Berkshire Place located on 52nd Street/Madison Avenue in July 2019. They have cool Otis elevators.

Apparently, when it was the PanAm building, they used to be the fastest elevators in the world between 1963 and 1969 at speeds of around 1700 ft/min, because those two express elevators, EE5 and EE6 we saw, they served as shuttle elevators back when the very top of the building had a heliport for flying taxis in New York.
That’s interesting! They must’ve been slowed down because they now go 1400 ft/min. :(

These used to be push button but were modded with Compass plus in 2017 and modded again with compass 360 in 2021
