Belt Movement Test
I've been told that our belts move on our Can Am Spyder RT's! So I decided to do a Go Pro test and see what happens when we back up, turn left, turn right and so on.

In this video we take a quick detour off of Hi Way 65 South and we go through the collage of the Ozarks in Hollister. This is a beautiful Campus and well worth the trip if you want something out of the ordinary.
Hi Way 125 N. to Strafford, Mo.

This video is different from all my other Spyder riding videos in that it has a music track instead of the ambient riding sound track. That's because I messed up and did not get the digital recorder started at the beginning of the ride.
Hi Way 125 to Fair Grove, MO.

Nice ride on Hi Way 125 to Fair Grove, Mo. Nice scenery and lots of turns. Traffic? What traffic? That's the nice thing about riding in the Ozarks, roads are well kept but very little traffic.

GPS Wiring for a 2018 Spyder RT Limited
Hi Dave I appreciate your videos I have the same bike same color I downloaded the Gates app very easy to use what is the frequency range for your bike? Thanks well done!!
The only problem I see with this is there is not enough data to use this method since their isn't a direct way to convert belt tension measured in Hertz (Hz) to Newtons (N), you need to use a formula that not only take in the tension based on the measured frequency, but also the belt's mass and the length of the belt span. Considering the poster indicated even a time of posting they had 3 different belts you need to know the specs of your belt as a basis for this formula.
Thank you for the great videos.
What is your belt tension setting for the RT?
Great video Sir
Dead on, thank you sir! Frequency is by far the best way to measure belt tension. Now I have to figure out which belt I have
Best video out there
I like this site. Where can I get the floorboards for driver? I'm getting a 2018 spyder today. Thanks, Larry
Are you still riding Sir Costalot?
I got a new 2023 F3-s and I noticed that after driving it that the belt was tight against the right side flange in the rear. I jacked up the rear and adjusted the right side adjuster so that the belt was about 3 mm from the flange when spinning the wheel, spinning the wheel by hand both forwards and backwards. I tightened the axle nut to about 120 lb-ft and re-checked. still 3mm. After tightening the nut to 166 lb-ft the belt went back to rubbing on the right side of the flange when turning the wheel. Loosened the nut and adjusted it so the belt was further to the left. As soon as I tongued it to 166 it went back to the right side. What am I doing wrong?
I have the same issue
I also have the same issue. Every time I torque the axle to the correct setting, belt goes back to original position and the right side belt adjuster becomes loose. It's like the axle is being pulled backwards slightly when torquing the nut. Very frustrating.
Just purchased a 2014 RTL and learning how to save a bunch of MONEY !! Looking forward to do my own servicing and this video will certainly assist in doing that. THANKS
Panel removal and replacement is why it takes a dealer 3 hours to do an oil change. Great info... YT videos have saved me a lot of headaches and heartaches when working on my RT.
so smooth very nice job
Best panel removal tutorial for a 2016 RT. Thanks
775nm on 2022 spyder f3
super helpful, thanks!
❤
I have a 2017 Spyder rts. I did find that wire but mine isn't hot at all key on or off. I must be missing something. But nice vieo.
...the Magic Mirror connectors make all the difference, well worth installing on your Spyder.
Actually the first thing you do is order hex head magnetic drain plugs from Show Chrome so you can throw away the Allen and torx heads.
Thank you for your video. I was more precise to my liking than all other videos. If you ever get a chance, do video for removal/reinstall rear panel.
do you have a video on how to remove the right side cargo box
Darn good tutorial. You are a very good teacher.
It worked for us. Had the dealer do the front pully check and they overtightened and slightly misaligned the belt. First time wife had ever complained about a vibration. got the app for my iphone and set it at 33hz avg. Pretty slick, thank you.
In the video you said you could come back to show how to easily access the coolant tank but you never did come back to that. Did you do a different video with that information? That's the information I was most interested in learning.
Thanks for making this tutorial,,,will be doing my 1st oil change soon.
comment faire si la courroie est mal placée sur la poulie avant ....elle est collee a l exterieur gauche ..faut il aligner le moteur ..et comment faire..merci
Excellent video and very helpful. Thank you for sharing. My 2022 F3T was extremely tight and on the left edge of the driven pulley , disappointing to say the least. The owners manual is lacking meaningful tech information and according to the dealer no shop manual is available from BRP. Thank goodness for your videos.
The BRP connect is garbage. They need an upgrade big time. Apple car play maybe
Wish you would had filmed the actual location and the wiring before putting the covers back on but this is better than what I knew before your video so thanks for the info anyway.
2018 F3-L running about 667 Newtons or 150 pounds. I had 23Hz with the App on my iPhone, however it was cool 50 degrees F with the rear tire on the ground. Thank you for your video, Regards.
I grew up in Fair Grove. And rode this route hundreds of times.
With the HCM filter @ 28k intervals the oil capacity is 5.9 qts ...
Thanks for the information. I don't use the BRP Connect on my 2018 RTL anymore either for the same reason as yourself . I installed a Tom Tom 550 Rider with a mount I bought from Lamonster also.
I’ve always done my own standard maintenance and have to admit the body panels on the RTL are a bit intimidating. Thanks for the helpful and very well done video. Do not want to break anything on my wife’s new ride! Any changes from 2018-2019 worth mentioning?
Thanks for the great info. Trying to align my 2019 F3L. How do I convert hertz to Newtons if I use the Gates Carbon Drive app?
were did you get your manual.
bestshopmanuals@gmail.com This is the email address for the person who supplies the on-line version but I also had some of the pages I used in the video for other Spyders emailed to me from my Dealer.
@@ozarksspyderrides8504 thanks
Update on the Gates Carbon drive app: It does work now with my new I-phone and yes, you can turn off the startup video by going into settings and turning it off on startup! I took three readings this morning to test it. I got the same reading three times and it also gives you the average of the three. What people are doing wrong is they are trying to pluck the belt with their hand or fingers and that does not work! Use the handle of a screw driver or a small hammer and "TAP" the belt lightly to make it twang like a guitar string. Wheel off the ground, spoke turned to the rear and test all three spokes then average the three readings.
I have a 2017 RT Limited SE6 and manual says my belt tension is also 1050N +/- 150N. I was able to screen capture your figures on paper you held up to camera so I could read them. I realize you misspoke a couple of times during recording. I have Apple phone and there is a Carbon Drive App. I appreciate the information you shared on this video. My question is after two years since upload are you still successfully using this app to maintain/check/adjust your belt tension? And how often do you check belt tension? Thank You
Dave, The app worked well and after two years of checking the belt tension it never changed enough to readjust. I traded in my 2018 and I now have a 2021. I also had to get a new phone this year and I changed over to Apple. The android phone worked much better with this app. For some reason I can't get a good reading with my I-phone, it never gives me the same reading. (not even close to one another)
excellent video
thats exactly what its suppose to do. BPR MASTER MECHANIC
I have a 2014 RS spyder
All the tool are shown at the 30 second mark. Oil filer and the box the oil comes in are all shown. Your 2014 is different from the 2018 in my video. The 2018 has a three cylinder (1330) engine!
Yea I know I was just trying to see the tools it show but not all
Can u put up tools and oil and filer please
Watched this video and your video on panel removal. A few issues, such as needing to use an impact driver to remove the main engine plug and needing to go get a socket for the filter, but otherwise went very well. Plugs were easier to find than I expected. I will use some boards to raise the Spyder an inch or two so I can have a little more work space. Thank you very much. Now to install a camera on the Spyder for my wife. I already have one on my motorcycle.
awesome explanation!
Been living here 20 years and I seen the water goes like that every summer
Very careful, informative and easy to follow step by step presentation with good camera location and voice/sound volume. Thanks for putting the video together.
Quality ass content bro. This dam is damn impressive
after checking 2 separate big dealers in my area they don't even measure tension. Not happy as i have red dust on my front pulley at 10k miles. I'm sure my tension was set too high when i had the rear tire replaced. This is super frustrating to hear no one seems to know how to do this properly at a dealer. I will take care of it myself going fwd. Thanks for the vid..
On the Garmin 396, where is you mount the 12 volt box by the power leads?
