Fender Rumble 200 bass combo amp review 9-17-24

Dudeman really likes the sound of this low/mid priced Fender combo amp, after viewing the video results he felt like he should have dialed in some better tones to show off its true capabilities. He almost always sets his instrument controls in the middle so he's not coloring the true amp sound. Its a nice size, not too big and its very light, around 34lbs. A great buy for players at any level!

    Is fretless on a short scale more difficult than fretless on a 34 inch?

    • @studioxmusic
      @studioxmusic День назад

      Hey B, I never thought about it that way, I guess, if anything, it may be a little easier but I really don't see either being more difficult. It is a different instrument than a standard bass but on either one you'll have to get used to playing with good intonation, mainly focusing on playing right over the fret lines as opposed to a fretted bass where you are playing right behind the frets. Check out my video "My Favorite fretless bassist", I'll send a link.

    I tried the Forte D and liked it, but after also trying the Forte HP (not the new one) I really liked it much better. It just sounds fuller. It has all the good features of the D and some really useful other features such as high and low pass filter which allows me to cut out especially low end without otherwise effecting the tone like the bass eq does. Also, the loading of different emulated tube amps and OD/distortion/Fuzz is really great. I wish they made it so you could load all of them in at once and have MIDI switching of them. But I usually just load my favorite tube option and then turn it on and put the drive knob close to 2 which just make it sound like the tube amp without any od/distortion/fuzz. I also like the punch button which in some situation is great.

      Hey Vox, I really appreciate the specific input about the HP amp, I've never tried one but did read about the newer version which is tempting but they do hit the pocketbook pretty hard, still, the tone is killer. @@studioxmusic I am using a Bergantino 4x10 HG cabinet that works great for my situations, more so than a normal ported cab. I also have an Agular GS 2x12 cab from earlier and I found when combining them it sounds absolutely amazing. But of course, bringing both is a lot of work. The fast response of the HG 4x10 solved the problem to not overpower smaller stages/venue. Plus, you can stand beside it and still hear it because of one speaker pointing back.

      @@VoxTone2009 hey Vox, I've been a long time player of 10" speakers, I like them because they react quick to my sometimes fast passages but I've never had the opportunity to try any Bergy cabs although I did take a good look at their available configurations & specs. My 10" cabs always sound better when linked with any other cab but you made a good point about being able to hear the cab because of that one rear facing speaker. I've also listened to multiple speaker cab comparisons on youtube with the Bergeys coming in my favorite top 3, definitely great sounding cabs, I expect that I will one at least one sooner or later. • @studioxmusic
      @studioxmusic Месяц назад

      Hey Al, thx for the comment. I would have to say that there is probably not enough room to fit a battery in the tight compartment if you are installing this in the same bass or most likely any Fender or Squire jazz style bass. It is a little harrowing cutting into the bass and its can be easy to make mistakes. I would suggest that if you are not comfortable with the procedure then have a guitar tech who has done this kind of work either do the whole install or at least just the routing. I found the wiring to be quite simple, EMG made it easy with the simple diagrams and helped every step of the way via email. Good luck, I'd love to hear how you make out and if I can be of help, let me know!

I'm not familiar with the Ibanez SR505 but if it has the MK1 pickups, its probably an older one very similar to my SR700 which also has the MK1's, these are fantastic pickups, way better than the Bartolini licensed pickups they use in their newer basses. Sounds like you have an outstanding rig now. I've never tried the Darkglass amps or cabs but I am also a Darkglass fan, I have 2 of their overdrive pedals.

      Yes, I definitely have simple preferences on that. Most cabinets have either an attenuator where you can dial in a specific amount of high end or they have preset levels such as full on, medium range and off. I always choose a medium setting. If I leave it off then it can be kind of a dead tone with little high end, if you choose full on the tone can be a little too brittle or sonically abrasive to the ears. With a mid setting you can get some nice snap to your tone without the abrasiveness. Hope this helps, happy jamming!

I have trouble holding chords, its painful on my hands to try and bend my fingers and play a chord. Now with 4 strings and piccolo strings, its a little easier. I'm currently working with a 5 string piccolo which so far, isn't too bad. I guess if I keep working it, I could just play a guitar but here's another thing, there are already many, many great guitar players, I'll never catch up with them. But as a bassist, I'm sailing through uncharted territory in many cases. Alot of other bassists are realizing what they can do on the bass without having to bring in guitarists, they can record entire songs without any help. Thanks for writing!

    That’s a sick mural behind you! I’m thinking about this bass, would you say that the lowest notes are pretty smoothe and not buzzy depending on how you dial it in?

      @studioxmusic 6 месяцев назад

      Hey! Thats actually a carpet that one of my buddies gave me for Christmas last year! I ran out of floor space for it so I decided to use it as a backdrop for a few videos. As far as the bass, I'm really quite impressed with the quality of it although I've only briefly played a handful of 5 strings so with that being said, I would say that the low notes are very smooth and with no buzzing, it was set up like I have it right from the factory. Thank you for the comment!

    Great review but I kept listening for one thing. It's easy to understand why many small speakers produce great results for slapping and popping....but can this cabinet handle "low and smooth"?

    • @studioxmusic
      @studioxmusic 7 месяцев назад

      Hey LoZOne, Yer name is just too cool for words, love it, wish I thought of it. To answer your question, I'd say it handles low and smooth just fine. I've been playing bass (just bass) for 45 years and I've always been a stickler for tone and if a cabinet could not go up loud enough for some of the hard rockin' bands that I've played with, I wouldn't be interested in keeping it around. As far as this particular cabinet, it sounds good on its own and can push a good amount of low end but I prefer to hook it up with my 4-10 cab, then it really kills, great tone and nice fat lows. Thx man!

    if you needed this for your band, would this be loud enough (for a small space practice session -- aka, not using the DI)?

    • @studioxmusic
      @studioxmusic 7 месяцев назад

      Hey HDR, happy to answer your question: that all depends on how loud your band is but for the most part, I would say yes, it should be fine. If yer playin in a small room, it really should be ok. I seem to always get a better sound when I leave the bass amp on the floor, no matter what rig I'm using, hope this helps!

    Is this bass heavy? I’ve seen weight descriptions everywhere from 6 -22 lbs…. All over the B place

      Its been a while since I did this review so I don't recall the exact weight but I can tell you its VERY light. I believe its either 6 or 7 lbs, very cool bass.

    Nice demo, did one amp ever win out over the othet?

    • @studioxmusic
      @studioxmusic 8 месяцев назад

      Hey Peewee, thx for the comment and excellent question! The answer is yes but keep in mind that alot of the tones and function control set ups of different bass amps are personal preference, so what works the best for me may not be the same for the next player. I've used Genzler amps for many years now, I've tried their newer amps briefly in a music store but I always liked the simple layout of the Genz Benz Shuttle series heads and combos better. I like an amp with a basic design where I can quickly dial in my sound. I don't want to be twiddlin' knobs tryin' to get my tone right especially while I'm on stage. Alot of players swear by the Tone Hammers but just not my favorite. Thx again!

    I got one couple years ago. Good sound and features and very loud if you need that too. Pevey caught my attention years ago when I saw a DJ using them, the sound was fantastic, very crisp and defined, compared to other speakers he used to use. You could definitely tell the difference
