Great video! Any chance for an update as its been 2 years since this went up?
I like Neewer👋🏻
what would you not love about the avenger stands?? they are industry standard for good reasons
Impact is heavy but they hold up alright. That said, buying matthews, modern/norms, american; basically the industry standard stuff; you'll be set for years and years. But as I'm sure you mentioned, when you gotta save you gotta save.
This could have been a 3 minute video.
newer and flashpoint often come with rust, there are multiple videos about it on youtube. so yes i would recommend impact or matthews
wich big monitor are you using there my friend?
Did you use a GoPro to film this video?
I got lucky at the Goodwill and found 2 Neewer 10 footers. No carrying case or wheels but they were $24 each and are in brand new condition. The deals are out there!!!
also the damage is done with them setting them up and closing them down all the time. I have come up with a much simple solution and what I do is I have a nice big trolley and I don't take my soft boxes down at all once they are constructed, they stay constructed and I just put everything in my wheelie trolley. My camera bag goes on my backpack and I just walk in with a nice big trolley and it's really simple to do kind of like a big beach trolley actually that I've adapted and the trolley itself folds down in the back of my car I would suggest to people that it's a good idea not to be pulling apart and resetting up your soft boxes all the time as that is where the wear and tear will occur.
It's interesting because I'm a landscape photographer getting into portrait photography and I'm gonna use this analogy and people may disagree. Often. I saw people buying the most expensive tripod in the world and I used to say to them your tripod really only needs to do one thing and I would look at me physically and ask what is that thing...... it needs to keep the camera still..... you can have 1 million features on a tripod but it must keep the camera still. I actually have come to the same conclusion quite quickly with soft boxes..... they need to do one thing and that's let light through and diffuse the light. If the soft box you are using does that well it's fine. Honestly you could probably buy the most expensive soft box and I will argue that or have minimal difference in your image quality the lens you use on the camera probably has got more to do with that than the actual soft box. Remember the soft box is for light not image quality.. sure different sizes and shapes will have an impact but in general terms I don't believe you need to spend the most expensive soft boxes to get a decent set up.
At 2:08 in the video, what are the clamps that are used on the c-stand to grip the diffusion frame? they seem to be a long pivotable bar clamp. I've been trying to figure out what the technical name would be for these so that I can find some to purchase. Thank you!
Thinking of buying this to review lights in general ( LED and some Bulb ones / Flashes and so on ). Do you think this could be a great tool for a foto-video gear reviewer ?
Helpful, thanks for sharing!
Am I wrong, or can you do most of this stuff you described just with decent white or gray card, like color checker video?
Some of the stuff definitely works with a color checker. When you are in person lighting stuff and want to be super accurate this is a tool that can be helpful. Mine was stolen in 2023 So I don't have mine anymore. It definitely isn't necessary but can be useful
I have 14 C-Stands, most from different brands. I can't stress what you said enough - there are some cheaper ones on Amazon that are not worth it. I love the impact and of course the matthews ones. The cheaper ones have knuckels that don't work well, don't get tight enough or whatever, and I have a pair of stands that the center column has a bottom .. plug that screws into the bottom. After a few heavy uses the one got a bit stretched out and now that plug came out and won't thread back in. So I will only be buying Impact or Matthews from here on out!
Super helpful
Great info. Thank you. Sorry for your loss.
Nice video. Would you recommend difusion with -0.7EV cut or -1.25 for outdoors shooting?
Got two 8's on car mounts. Gives nice BRoll and a third with the content creator thingie I keep saying would make a nice talking head vlog camera. Had bought them for my kayak. Klunky in many ways. Almost like a 4x5 large format camera. Something to enjoy. Planning and thought towards lighting makes a difference. Too lazy to sell them, lose money, buy a vlogging setup. Tough cameras. Just don't buy three of them if you are starting out... lol
great video
Thanks!
Hey! I had no idea you guys were based in San Diego! I also run my production company/video agency out of San Diego! Lets connect. Maybe theres way to help each other out!
Hey thanks for the message. Yes we were based in North County San Diego before the move. Now in North Carolina but will still be doing work in CA as well
Welcome to Raleigh! We are based here in Raleigh and would love to catch up sometime after ur move!

Best of luck! I have watched your content for the last few years and have really gotten a lot of value from it. I live in Raleigh and can say that you are picking a great area to move to.
@@travisstanley thank you! Once I get settled maybe we can meet up 👍🏻
Well, I wish you the best of luck. It’s no easy decision to move your business from one end of the country to the other. As I always do, I let my work speak for itself and you do amazing work so I think you will do just fine. It’s the moving and setting up shop again that’s always rough.

Good luck!!!!

could you tell me what diffusion reflector you used to shoot through at 4:17? great video!
I was curious about that as well.
really thats wonderful.this video inspire me to do hand mad things, hand made things conect emotiona, and thats make it so special to use in life. i ant to make my fantasy story and based on that i want to make crafting like characters wearings, or any thing that i like in my fantasy world. thank you very much for this video.😇🍀

So glad it was helpful, thanks for the comment!
Thank you sure!
Awesome breakdown!!! Thanks for the review!!
You can also get a a Matthew’s with a turtle base.
Good to know
I sue Kupo, these are probably one best on market.
How do you transport your stands and in what case do you carry them in?
I typically take 3 light stands with me. I wrap them in towels with bungie ties and then put them in a duffel bag. I try to rent C-stands from wherever I travel to.
@@LarimoreStudios make sense. Thanks for sharing.
non name brands....
I bought a Flashpoint ( honestly, because it was black). Second time using it, was lifting a 49” octa… tightened well to support weight and threads stripped. Shipping sort or make it cost-prohibitive to return.
Would like to hear why you don't "love" Avenger C stands. I have over a dozen of them and have never had an issue.
Probably because they couldn't advertise others as good 😂😂
Really nice, watchable overview. Thanks! I have a bunch of Glow modifiers and they get the job done for a reasonable investment. Sadly, after spending literally tens of thousands of dollars with Adorama, I quit doing business with them because of customer service issues. They're great until you have an issue which is a real shame. I'm really torn between the Glide Gear BFS100 modular system or just biting the bullet and buying the Westcott Scrim Jim. Thanks again, great video.
Thanks for the kind words and sorry about Adorama! I purchase most through B&H but on occasion there are better deals through Adorama
