    "They believed their rights were safer in the hands of the British than the Americans." This is facts. When the British deported French Canadians to Louisiana because they wouldn't swear loyalty to the British crown, it created quite a French community there. But the US passed all kinds of laws forcing people to speak English, so eventually French died out almost entirely in the US. That's probably what would have happened to Quebec if it threw in with the Americans. Already, even before attaining independence, the Americans clearly demonstrated their expansionist tendencies and sense of manifest destiny by invading Canada and trying to seize it for themselves. Independence wasn't sufficient. They even wanted to acquire British colonies who had chosen to remain loyal to the Crown. It's also particularly ironic that the American revolutionaries imposed taxes on the French Canadians they managed to subjugate, albeit temporarily, without representation. A bit of hypocrisy eh? You know if the Americanas stuck it out with Britain, North American colonies would have all eventually gained independence. But also there would likely be substantial French holdings in North America as well. And whatever independent nation came out of it would likely function on the basis of a Westminster parliamentary system. We wouldn't be dealinlg with the current Trump shit show.

    Purposeful propaganda? ................ Blaming the British congress and not the king is PROPAGANDA. The king was replaced by is son in the early 1800s. King George is considered an unstable authoritarian in English history. For any history entity to ignore the king's roll in the American Revolutionary War is incompetence or propaganda. A series of enlightenments, through history have exposed the anti-human practice of Monarchy. When this practice is coupled with another brutal practice, namely Empire. It is not difficult to see The human Race has evolved past this exploitative arrangement. Every human with a soul , cheers the victories of the American patriots. The British aristocracy even exploits its own people. The very ones who fight and die, to maintain this class society. George Washington is a champion of The Human Race. God bless our great General Washington.

    great videos so dont take this as a harsh comment. a casualty is dead. in another video a person "fell off his horse, broke his nose and was the first casualty" here at another battle you stated "they only suffered minor casualties" there is nothing minor about being dead and a broken nose doesnt mean you are dead

    • @MintyLime703
      @MintyLime703 День назад

      I'm not sure where you're getting that from. A casualty in war is someone who has been injured or killed. If they're taken out of the fight then they're considered a casualty. That's always been the case. And "minor casualties" is obviously a relative term. If you have an army of thousands and you lose 50 guys, that's minor. Nobody's saying their deaths aren't tragic. And again, it doesn't even necessarily mean they all died. If you don't believe me, look it up. Any dictionary will tell you the same thing.

    Where did you get that claim that some slaves owned by Washington fought him? I know a large number would escape aboard the HMS Savage and be retaken after Yorktown. I work at Mt Vernon and we are always trying to expand our knowledge on the enslaved community there but this is a new claim that I've never heard. Great Vids by the way!

    • @HistoryRebels
      @HistoryRebels 11 дней назад

      Hi there, thanks very much, I'm really glad you enjoy the videos. Great to have viewers from Mount Vernon too, I bet that's a great job! I'm certain I had other sources as well, but one that I quickly found was from 'Liberty's Exiles: American Loyalists in the Revolutionary World' by Maya Jasanoff: "Dunmore’s Ethiopian Regiment quickly numbered more than eight hundred men, and might have attained twice that strength were it not for a smallpox epidemic that killed hundreds on board Dunmore’s fleet. In pointed irony, some of the most prominent patriots lost their own slaves to the British. Several of George Washington’s slaves ran from Mount Vernon to the floating town. So did several belonging to Virginia burgess Patrick Henry-known for his patriotic rallying cry “Give me liberty, or give me death!”-who cited Dunmore’s proclamation as a reason that Americans should declare independence." For Washington more specifically, there's also a fascinating account of the slave Harry Washington in 'Epic Journeys of Freedom: Runaway Slaves of the American Revolution and Their Global Quest for Liberty' by Cassandra Pybus. Harry escaped from Mount Vernon in 1776, joined the Ethiopian Regiment, was evacuated to Nova Scotia in 1783, and then later relocated to Sierra Leone with his family. I hope that's useful :)

      @ Thanks for the reply! I reread my message and I think I came across as a bit rude. Didn’t mean to imply anything about your research. I also certainly don’t speak for Mt Vernon as a whole. I’m definitely gonna ask/look around see if we can put names to those who might have joined the regiment, at least might have escaped around the time of the Dunmore proclamation. I also looked into Harry Washington interestingly he was one of the 17 enslaved people listed by Lund Washington who escaped in 81 aboard the savage. Could be a coincidence I know it was common for enslaved people to sometimes take the names of their masters. Although he also ends up in Nova Scotia and then Sierra Leone. Another thread to follow. Thanks for the reply! Can’t wait for the next video.

    I always see The First and Second Battles of Trenton and Princeton as the most important battles of the War. I know about all the others, Ticonderoga, Saratoga, Cowpens, Yorktown and the others and take no glory from them. But without the victory at Trenton, then Princeton when the Americans were in the words of Thomas Paine, in the midst of "the times that try men's souls" there would have been no more battles or victories. Thank you for this excellent re-telling. Washington was right, generations yet unborn thank them yet we owe those patriots a thanks we can never repay.
