I think reduction of conscription age is a politician-type simplification of a complex problem - yet another ”quick-fix” that fixes nothing but that ever dominates the political scene. There is a real problem to be adressed. South of Pokrovsk you are hard pressed to find a single brigade beyond 40% of nominal strength. When fighting for Vulhedar the 72nd brigade had less than 30%. On the surface this looks like a lack of people. But according to official numbers Ukraine has 860 000 military personnel. Russia some 650 000 in Ukraine, and another 60-70 000 in Kursk. Russia is perpetually attacking and the relative numbers of troops does not indicate any shortage or problems for a defending Ukraine. The problem of desertion, and AWOL, is on the rise in Ukraine, and there are problems with morale and in particular troop confidence in military higher leaders. All looking like a serious problem. At the same time, when ”Ka Dva” (K2 battallion) called for volunteers just now they received more than 7000 applications within a few days, and the Azov units cannot take in the number of volunteers appying. Also at the same time, we see the army trying to deploy qualified IT specialists and Aircraft mechanics to the trenches, stopped only by the intervention of the president himself. We see mobilisation officers filling quotas by placing physicians as infantry. So the problem of lack of ”trigger men” - frontline troops and in particular infantry, is not as easy as a mere lack of people. It is buried in the functionality of the Ukrainian army - meaning higher leadership, administration, logistics and medical services. One does not solve this problem simply by pouring more humans into it. There are already enough people in the system. On the contrary, Ukraine must seek to avoid permanent damages through the loss of key segments. There aren’t that many Ukrainians between 18 and 24 to begin with, with record low birth rate those classes. Ironically, Ukraine is in the same demographical situation as Russia - thankfully not deploying as drastic measures to force people to reproduce, but having the same need. Another matter of concern is how great a proportion of the population can be taken out of the workforce to go to war, before a nation collapses. Economically and logistically. So no, it won’t solve anything, it is just something that is easy to say in short phrases and to people with limited insight seems to solve a problem - a feature of modern politics. Specialist in trying to appear to adress issues without actually adressing anything. Does it mean that the USA will or will not try to stop the war? Who know’s - the administration certainly doesn’t, they are making things up as they go along. In this they do not differ from any other campaigning group in the world. President Zelensky also initially campaigned on ending the war. One cannot take serious what these people say, merely watch what they do.

It’s because 18 is considered as man in USA and that is the age of registration for a draft as well. It’s a difference in culture maybe. We don’t have economic bookings from the draft or anything like that either. Waltz came from our military special forces where the other dmb a** was a civilian.
