I Spent a FORTUNE on My 350z Interior, But Was It Worth It?
Project cars are expensive. If you're like me you like to bury your head in the sand and pretend that you didn't spend that much, so when you finally tally it up it can be... shocking.
I finally totaled up the cost of the work I did on my custom 350z interior and it's... a lot.
So, how much did I actually spend, and was it worth it?

4:39 Did you delete the video where you fixed your neighbour’s car? I can’t find it. Keep up the videos!
I did. I needed to edit something for privacy reasons. I'll be reupping it tomorrow
But when you're using your reversing camera, you don't need to look out your windscreen to watch the road
Reversing camera is only used to judge the distance from kerb / wall.
So you don't need to look out the windscreen to see the reversing camera display@@ValentineAutosV2
Good job dude, very cool. Man oh man would I love to have a 3D printer. So many possibilities for my car alone.. just making and repairing all the 30 year old broken bits that don’t exist anywhere.
Honestly it's one of the best applications. And printing in ABS you can make them really strong, or at least use them as masters to do injection molded replacement parts. Extra useful when paired with a 3D scanner
sadly they won't be legal in my country 😢
Boo
I love it.
think there a bit too dark .. but not my motor if your happy so am i .... see if you get pulled is the real test
No reason that I'd get pulled. There's no law in the UK that says they can't be completely blacked out other than any tint can't dim the light under 50% of OEM brightness, and you can't cover the reflector. With the LED upgrade they're brighter than OEM, and the reflector is down by the indicator, so it's all good.
Very common problem on the 350z having small rotors and caliper. Cooper S JCWs and Intergra type R have the same caliper both lighter cars. Look at brake duct cooling and also rotors that have be chroyogenic dipped and hardened and they will never warp. Also like you mentioned is better brake pads leaving less material on the discs. Coming back with just better brake pads will likly not be enough and ruin your day again with brake issues also high temp brake fluid. 👍
Yeah, pads, rotors and fluid are all on the list for over winter. Clearly needs a bunch of work before it's ready again, but it gives me something to do!
I accidentally watched your video 😂 Don't talk to me about trackdays. 5 years into a serious addiction. Love it Good video man. You described it well. Bit of a Chris Harris in there 👍
I'll take it, lol
Greetings from Reddit. This is kind of a similiar process to what I did when I integrated my solution for this cubby. Nice install, and great insight. It's also interesting to see the design differences in the console assembly. The glare issue you discussed was also hot on my radar, which is why I went with an arcade style overhang/marquee to help shade the screen from heavy sunlight during the day. Awesome fabrication work!!
Greetings. Yeah, that glare was critical. I really considered deepening the recess or adding an overhang like you say, but by testing as I went I realised I didn't need it so it was all good. Appreciate you feeding back buddy
The Carbon Fiber lines don't match the rest of the carbon that's there already.
Not from that angle. When you look from the other side it does. Quirk of the wrap. Doesn't matter now though as I've already rewrapped the whole console in black suede, and that panel in plain black vinyl. You'll see in a video next week.
What lap time would my Fabia 999cc make? xD
"eventually"

That looks wonderful. Very nice job.
Appreciated buddy.

More 350z videos! I want to do more to mine!
Plenty more coming, don't you worry
Great video mate and thanks for providing the stl files, i'm gonna have a crack at this!
Have to let me know how you get on!
Looks good man. On a side note, You can use alot less hardener in that body filler.
Fair point. I always just used the rough rule of 1cm high and 2-3cm wide, and do a line down the middle. Or golf ball vs pea. Always seems to work.
Just subscribed. Nice interesting well presented content 😊 I’ve also carried out a straight swap at Chester Services!!! My old 55 plate Focus ST for a nice 58 plate VW Golf GTTDI!!!! Many years ago that was!!!
That was a hell of a trade!
@@ValentineAutosV2 I know we were both happy, the ST was a bit rough around the edges but a good ST225 and I needed a diesel at the time but then ended up getting rid of the golf for another Focus ST225 lol
Thank you for sharing your story. It takes a lot to do so and I believe it can potentially help encourage others to seek help.
Thank you so much for saying so. If it helps even one person seek help then I'll feel this video was worth making.
There's a huge difference shooting a Lambo vs shooting for Lambo.
I know. He was commissioned by Lambo to take the shots for their official marketing
why dont you bridge the sub on the amp? it will give more power out to the sub.. and please adjust hpf and lpf...
Mistake on my part. I pulled up the a pdf for the amp (at least I thought I did) and it said to use the left. I'll adjust to bridge when I see them on Wednesday
FFS how can the most basic of electrical principles be so mysterious for anyone?
I think the funniest (if you can call it that) thing was that nothing was tightened down, at all.
@@ValentineAutosV2 Right? Basic electrical principles should be taught in primary school.
Like it! It's a bit like a hawaiian shirt.
Just what I was going for lol
There was nothing wrong with the power cable coming directly from the battery. They just connected it wrong to the battery terminal, which is why you could pull it off. I don't understand why you spliced into the fuse box. That amp also has the wrong fuse in it (blue = 15A, it needs atleast a 30A fuse, which is green) Right now, you put a heavy load on that 30A fuse. A connector that's rated for 30A now has the potential to draw 60A of current.. Bad news... You should have kept it on the battery. Also, that power wire really is not beefy enough for that amp. a 400w needs at least a 16mm2 power and ground to have optimal power feed. Secondly, you cconnected the sub into the left channel of the amp.... You can clearly see the line above the connection terminals "bridged" This means that if you connect the positive wire from the sub to R+, and the negative to L- you bridge both channels, essentially doubling the power... I mean, it was a disaster to begin with, but in my opinion, but you too made some crucial mistakes. I've been tinkering with car audio for just about 20 years. I too made mistakes like that. Burnt up a fuse box, which is why i'm telling you this. Please, take my advice seriously, and you'll see it will be so much louder..
Great insights and you clearly know more than me about this stuff. I did actually swap out the fuse in the amp at the end but forgot to film it! Interesting about the power wire. They say it's what came with it, but who knows. Good note on the bridging. I didn't see that. I'll make sure that's fixed when I see them later in the week. Appreciate the insights bud.
@@ValentineAutosV2 no problem, always glad when I can help out. Power delivery to an amp should always be overkill. Wiring should be able to provide more power than the load can pull. That way you will see less voltage drop = more RMS power. That power wire now looks like an 8mm2 or 10mm2. 12v, 30A over give or take 5m, a 10mm2 is really on the edge of the cable's capacity. You will see voltage drop at the amp. 1 size up, 16mm2 will put less stress on the system. A good, solid ground is also vital. If your amp ground is bad, it will search for a ground, which will be the RCA cables in this case. Your head unit is not going to like that 😂 The error the original installer made on the battery terminal is the wire connector between both ends of the battery clamp. This is why it wasn't clamped around the battery terminal and you were able to pull it off the battery. This can lead to a shitload of issues with everything electrical. Yea, you can say I'm a veteran. Trial and error. I've blown my share of amps, head units and subs, due to stupid mistakes. There are a couple of channels that go in depth in installing systems, and building custom boxes, like @caraudiofabrication. Check him out! (no, not my channel 😂)
I'm about to embark on my first major install on my own car (several subs, speakers and amps) along with building all my own enclosures and mounts, and I have no doubt that it's going to be a massive job with loads to learn. Looking forward to diving into some channels and leveling up. I'll be sure to check that one out.

I like it! I think you probably made it look a lot easier than it actually is though haha.
Yeah, I mean years of upholstery experience definitely helps, but honestly it wasn't all that bad. Pretty forgiving. Be interesting to see how it holds up.
