I don’t know why this is so relaxing to me
People always hype on about the beta, and how much 'better' it's darker tone is, but if you ask me, this is just as dark, if not worse than anything the Beta ever did. Consider the implications of having your entire race forcibly made sterile, kept around as little more than worker drones held captive by an uncaring, inter-dimensional empire. To have your entire civilization be herded like cattle to erode away the very planet you held dear, the materials of which that are used for who knows what else. They have no need for theatrics or showy, aggressive standards, like some future dystopias; the Combine's mere presence is overwhelming, oppressive, and unignorable, much more like 1984 in it's style. Ruled by an emotionless, abominable ruling party, of which nobody knows it's true machinations, and nobody can stop it's actions. And said ruling party, would like to keep it that way.

Looking at what appears to be a normal city from a high point and then looking at the citadel just existing there feels like a monument mythos moment An 80s looking picture of city 17 with a giant structure that looks surreally different on the middle along with this repetitive ambience feels early alex kansas styled

you were going to have a lots of time in city 17 in beta version of half life, sadly it was cancelled. but it I think it would have been boring a bit to spend about 1 hour just going around without a weapon
@@TatarProductions But it would've been incredible to have the freedom to roam around in alleys and backstreets where no scanners or metrocops were present, just to explore the pockets of humanity still dwelling in the city and the local flora and fauna..
@@TatarProductions Surely one hour would be an exaggeration but it'd be a splendid occasion to flesh out what living under the combine meant for the average citizen. Playing HL2 as a kid and running around the trainstation plaza, I always wondered where those blue-clad folks were headed when they passed through barriers inaccessible for the player? Where did they work? What did they do at the workplace? What would they do upon returning home? In HL2 we pass through city 17 in a rush, feeling we've seen only a snippet of the grim reality within.
@@TatarProductionsi love the beta and all its concepts, we missed a lot from it and the beta makes it seem like the combine is just taunting us at this point

This is one of the most pleasant souds I have ever heard
When you actually pay attention you realize how dark the game really is. Yes...it was darker in the beta but this is still very creepy and scary. This game has a reason why it's the best game in the world in my opinion and valve made it perfectly
agreed, i love the beta even though it had bad gameplay and what not, i guess i more so just like the concepts and a lot of the models and lighting, so cool to see how it changed, even then half life 2 has a special place in my heart

I'm 100% certain this track appeared in Berserk: Gut's Rage, a game on the dreamcast; played in certain cutscenes. I also remember the game using the same stock explosion sound effect for the arm cannon.

it was these kinds of sounds along with the scenery that lifted this game to surreal levels. Something that allowed you to be immersed somewhere else
