Tri-Five Chevy and Delco Batteries - Powering Up Classic Legends
I have a pair of black and white
I say keep the tradition alive... it reminds us of a time that was
I recently bought a pair...
This really helped man, my grandfather and I were working on a 55’ bel air up until he passed last December. He left it with no keys at all so this helps a ton. Keep going man.
Best rims ever. Had them on numerous cars.
i raced a 1966 Chevy Nova SS in SS/G in the early 70's... Cragars were Perfect... sold that car with 331 miles on the odometer.. Now that was Stupid...
1976 I had Cragars on my 64' Vette, gloss piano black and lowered....Great look.
I honestly have never thought they look all that great , I think the" Super Supreme" chrome spoked wheel looks much better ' which ,as I recall Cragar had their own version of. The 5 slot aluminum Sprint wheel , which was first done by Ansen, is , to me the greatest looking hot rod wheel ever , and were extremely popular, but they rarely get a mention these days , it would be good to get the full history of those . Radir wheels are also very classic .
Cragar Wheels Are So Much Nicer Than Modern Day Crap
For old guys.
The only wheels needed crager ss in 1980s high-school craters with spinners.
I put Cragers on my 67 Camaro and 69 Chevelle cause I liked the way the looked. They were/are cheap pot metal wheels that a tire machine will crack unless you have the right adapters and know what you are doing
I love Cragar SS wheels! Wish they had some to fit my 2005 Mustang GT fastback! Excellent video!
Interesting and informative! Great video
Upgrading electrical, relays, LEDs, etc is important for safety.
First car (1962) was a high mileage 55 Chevy 210 two-door sedan. Basic bottom-level. 6 cyl, column 3 speed, rubber floormats, but it had a Wonderbar radio. Actually 2 units. Tuner in dash, receiver/amp under dash. It wouldn't tune. I managed to locate two for parts in a junkyard and was able to fix it. It's been over 60 years, but if I remember correctly, the seek bar did not say "Wonderbar" but had a bowtie emblem. I replaced the solenoid and I think the oscillator. My ham-radio uncle helped me with a couple of resistors and capacitors. When you pressed a station button, the motor moved the tuner slowly to that frequency. I might have had the slowest car in my school, but I had the coolest radio.
That’s a great way to look at it!
When I was 12 my dad bought a 60 Cadillac limo that had a wobder bar. Going from Lancaster to Los Angeles i hit the bar to find a station and it kept going round and round looking for one. I freaked and turned it off which stopped it. That was the last time I touched it. That car floated down the road like a over stuffed sofa. We had a flat on the back tire once and it broke the jack at a gas station and the only way they could get the tire off the ground was to back it into the lift in the garage.
Great story! Thanks for sharing.
Back in the 60’s I had a 54 Olds 98 with the wonderbar radio. The wonderbar stopped working. I removed the radio and started “tinkering”. I had 7 major wires unhooked and the radio still worked…. Except the wonderbar 😂
Been there done that sort of thing many times!
I bet Don from "Restore Old Radios" channel could rewind one of those coils. I've seen him rewind transformers coils, speaker field coils and antenna coils in old radios. Capacitors are usually faulty in any old vintage radio, at least of the wax and paper variety, or the electrolytic cans, although I've seen a few from the late 50's, early 60's that seem to operate just fine without a tuneup, like some Zenith and Magnavox table radios. The Allen-Bradley type resistors are usually pretty stable as well as the old 1930's dog-bone style, but those carbon comps with the rounded ends tend to go high pretty regularly. There's an episode of Fibber Mcgee & Molly where Fibber invents a car radio that can be pulled out and used as a portable radio as well that he calls a "cartable" radio, lol. Tubes actually seldom fail completely, though they will grow weak with heavy use. I've found that the vibrator has usually gone bad but is often repairable as it looks similar to a set of points in an old ignition system and the contacts need cleaning to put them back in operation. Alternatively you can get "solid state" units to replace the original vibrators with. I think I'd keep the original factory radio in the dash and install a modern sound system in the glove compartment so it can be hidden when not in use.
I'm not working on a tri-five, but I am working on a 71 C10, and NGL I wouldn't mind one iota if I got my hands on that AM/FM wonderbar radio seen in a few clips here.
Wonder if it would fit the radio opening? Great if it did!
@@ClassicChevyRevival My specific truck's radio opening is a bit hacked up anyway so I wouldnt lose a single wink over widening the hole as needed.
@@ClassicChevyRevival You can see what I mean on my channel as I have uploaded a couple clips of starting it which pretty clearly show the opening.
I will take a look! Thanks!
I’ve never had a Wonderbar, they have all been manual tune in the Tri-Fives I’ve owned.
Yep, me as werll.
My third car was a 55 BelAir hard top with a wonderbar radio. I am restoring a 47 ford radio with a similar system. They both incorporate a foot switch to change stations. I love 0ld radios.
They are so easy compared to today's radio, like trying to change the clock for instance....
Very interesting ty
I want a 56 coupe😊 Fun video, nicely done.
Thank You! I've had 3 56's and like the 55's and 57's fun cars to have!
My father sold Chevrolets the year I was born 1957. They didn’t sell well being outsold by ford and especially Chrysler cars. 57 chevy’s were reliable and didn’t rust as bad as the competitors did and so were good sellers on used car lots.
Very true! Seems they were late bloomers!
Where are the port holes? Beautiful!
had mine when i was 4 ,,,71 now still have her
Wow!
@@ClassicChevyRevival well my dad ordered it when i was 4 lol gave it to me when i was 16 ...
My grandfather drove a 150 for Ohio State Highway Patrol
That’s cool! Any pictures?
@@ClassicChevyRevival sorry to say no but if you look up ohio state patrol classic police vehicles you'll find a picture of the 150
Just ordered a pair in white for my 56
Got a pair of green ones in my 56.
Utility sedan was 1211B. 1263F was a handyman wagon
I've owned a 150 utility since 1979..third owner. First was Pacific Bell for 10 years... then the shop that serviced until myself..still had the original upolstry and rubber floor mats
I'm 71 and my first car was a 1956 Chevy 210. My family owned a Chevy dealership from late 40's till 1985. It was a trade in that they had sold new and the guy bought a used 66 Chevelle in 1968. I paid the trade in price for it ($250). Should have kept that one.
I know trhat feeling, sold my 57 2 door hardtop, and have regretted it since.
Thanks for all the good info.
Thanks for watching!
When I was 18 years in age in 1966, I bought a beige & brown 56 Bel Air from an older man who bought the car from brand new. It was a 2dr coupe. The car had the 4 bbl 265 V8, but the engine had two bad cylinders that was "pumping oil" into the combustion chambers. There was a man in our church who had a 57 chevy wagon. He had been "t boned" on the passenger side and he had the car sitting in his back yard. The wagon had the 4bbl 283 engine in it. I bought the engine from him for $25.00 and installed it in my 56. My granddad helped me remove the engines from both cars. Man, that 283 was sweet as the dickens, with power to spare. I did not "hot rod" the car at all. That 283 made my 56 that much enjoyable to drive and was just an amazing car. Then, in late 1967 after I finished high school , here comes "uncle sam" drafting me in the dam marine corps! My mom and grand parents had to sell my car and it busted my heart right out of my chest! To this day, 1/27/2024, and after all of those years, I still long for my 1956 Chevy coupe. I am 76 years in age now and have had 9 brand new cars....a 70 Mach One Mustang, a 72 Cutlass Supreme, a 76 Cutlass Supreme, an 80 Cutlass Supreme, an 85 Cutlass Supreme, a 90 Mitsubishi Eclipse, a 99 Toyota Camry Solara, a 2005 Toyota Pickup, and a 2009 Lexus RX 350. And all my cars were wonderful vehicles. Buuuuut, dammit, give me back my 56 Chevy Bel Air coupe so I can head into oblivion. BTW, all my Oldsmobile Cutlasses were off the chain, especially my 76 Cutlass Brougham coupe. But my 56 Bel Air was my heart.
that pontiac was not the bonneville
Oh ok, i'm not sure then, what was it? Thanks!
I was the third owner of a black 57 Nomad in 1980..my company sign painter bought it used off a dealer lot in early 60's. ..sold it in 2012 with pristeen original upolstry..I always thought it had been replaced..wrong! Still own the 56 Chevy 150 utility that Pacific Bell Telephone used for 10 years. Shop that serviced it since new since 1966 sold it to me in 1979 and I still have it.
Thats great! I had a 57 2 door Belair for over 20 years, and like a dummy I sold it when I got into flying...wish I had it back. Currently I have a 4 door 56 Belair.
beautiful restorations, but UGLY mag wheels!
My first car was a 1955 Nomad and you got a couple of things wrong. First, the 1955 fender trim was exclusive to that year Nomad and the waffle interior was also exclusive to that year (1955) Nomad. Also, all of the tri-five Nomads were available with the 235 in line 6 cylinder engine as the based engine. The V8 was a extra cost option. On the 1956 Nomad, not all were tu-tone , and that also included the Bel-Air.
Ok. Thanks for that info! Do you still have your 55 Nomad?
I’m currently making a set of orange fuzzy dice for my 1/25 scale model chevy van and got curious about the origins of fuzzy dice. Thanks for the knowledge ☺️🐌✌️
Thats great! Would love to see them when you get them done!
Unless you can handle the painting (and especially the prep) yourself the cost of having someone do it for you has gone through the roof in recent years. It’s nothing to have $20K invested on JUST the paint job. I’m not sure if patina/restored is as much age related as how many 30 year olds are pining for a Tri-5 car? I’ve been in the car hobby long enough to see restored Model A’s and “street rods” (modified late 1930’s to early 1950’s) both fall almost completely out of fashion. Go to most car shows and it’s an ocean of muscle cars (and even that’s not going to last much longer). The young hot fodders are going to be Honda’s, Toyota’s, Mazda’s, etc.
I think you are correct, and I can attest that most of my viewers are around 60 years old.
Thanks!
It's amazing how many tri-5s are still around. They have always been popular with hot rodders and lowriders.
Very true! Another thing is you can tell what year they are, try that today!
Yep, I wonder how many are around and driving.
I love the fuzzy dice. I have a pair hanging from the mirror of my 82 Pontiac Parisienne and looking good ln any Beautiful Classic 😍 Car
It was always the first thing I bought when I bought a different Tri-Five!
In our neck of the woods, the 57 Chevy looked VERY dated next to the new Fords and Plymouths. Sales tumbled accordingly. Chevy knew that and their updated 58 was a year only body style.... unheard of in the industry. The 59s looked more modern, but it was only in1961 that Chevy started to making real lookers. Hard to beat the 61-64 Chevy. By then, of course, it was the Impala.
Chevy was outsold by Ford by only a few thousand also. But Chevy sold more cars in 57, but that included several thousand 56's, what with the 57's popularity today seems they were late bloomers!
It seems that every small town here in New England had both a Ford and a Chevy dealership. I think that is why they were both such great sellers in our area and the entire country. Want to buy anything else and you had to travel twenty miles to a dealership. We definitely were Chevy country back then. Thanks for the response and Merry Christmas.@@ClassicChevyRevival
Merry Christmas to you and Happy New Year!@@eugenepiurkowski5439
I was just gifted a pair of fuzzy dice and was wondering about the history, great video! 🎲
Thats cool! What Color?
Thanks
Good advice my diy is a 56. 210 2 dr sedan.
I had a 4 dr 56 210 sedan that I bought from a family who's Grandfather had left in a chicken coop for over 30 years, needless to say it was a mess! I now have a 56 4dr Belair.
