What size board are you using? Does it only cut 15mm? And. An etch into any size lumber?
@@joezimmer157 I don’t use this to cut anything thicker then 6mm or 1/4 inch thick parts. But you can engrave any size you need as long as it fits within the allowed size of 400mm x 800mm.
Beautiful work! Where did you get those custom glasses?
@@eileendechon9647 Thank you and the glasses were made by a friend of mine over at sadiesha.com.
I bought this engraver it took a long time to get it to connect to the computer once I did I can't figure out how to get it to work. I put an image in and tried to burn it and all it did was draw a ling not the image. I need a video to show how to work the controls etc.
What are your settings in light burn.
What would be good settings for engraving wood without causing the wood to burn outside of the actual marking area?
That actually depends on the wood. It’s different for every piece. I would take blue masking tape and cover the wood and then engrave through the tape. This will keep it from burning the wood.
@@PruettWoodworking excellent idea Thank you!

I have not tried that. I can test tonite and let you know for sure.
The PC can be connected via Wi-Fi.🥳
@@Longerofficial thank you for answering this question. I am on a work trip and could not answer for sure.
@@Longerofficial Thanks, but can you make a video of exactly how this happens, because I failed the way it connects to a mobile device
I bought one a few years ago but right from the beginning it seemed to slow down and not spin very well. It still did the random bit bit it just slogs down. Some said don't put too much pressure, but even with hardly any pressure the same thing happens. I removed the rubble gasket that surrounds the pad and it spins freely now. The problem is the dust collection effectiveness depends on the rubber gasket. Don't know if I got a poor unit but would not buy again to find out. More than a few have had this problem.
@@paulcoletta3819 I have three of these and no issues with any. I put a drop of machine oil on the pad like the directions say and it works flawlessly.
@@PruettWoodworking thanks for the suggestion-I'll try that. I did put wax on the upper pad but it didn't do the trick. But machine oil might.
@@paulcoletta3819 just a light coat is all it takes. A lot will attract dust.

Amazon reviews did not seem to like this product.... I'll have to defer to them.
That’s your decision
Strange, I read the reviews, average was 4 1/2 stars. One guy gave it three stars because it was cheap but did the job.
Does it attach to the rigid shop vac and the dust separators ?
@@mikeking7470 Hmmm... it is odd. I also usually limit my review filters to "Verified" amazon customers.... essentially, people who purchased specifically from amazon. I've found that it is not uncommon (I am NOT stating that it happened with this product specifically) for there to be comments from random people who either supposedly purchased elsewhere or whatever else... And there is no way to be sure that they aren't paid to bolster positive or negative comments on Amazon... I don't even know why they allow non-purchasers to comment... It becomes a paradise for marketing companies (often overseas).
On the R7303 have you noticed any out of balance issues with and without the pad saver??
No I have not. The pad saver is thin enough that it shouldn’t cause any issues.
Thanks for your speedy reply. The reason I asked you, a Mirka user claims that there is with Mirka sanders. I'll test my tomorrow and see if there's any vibration without the pad saver. By the way, I bought the R7303 and I love it. Saved me a whole bunch of money!

Pruettn, what Mirka Backup Pad Saver lines up with the six holes on the MAX XT 5'' and 6''? Thank you!
I am not sure about Mirka. I use the Kingdom abrasives pad protector from Amazon.
@@PruettWoodworking Thank you! and by the way thanks for making the sander video.
I ordered one of these. I haven't unboxed it yet but after watching the video, I'm happy that I did. Thanks
You are welcome
Good video presentation, but you're certainly not engraving at 4,400 mm per second. Looking at the video, it looks like 4,400 mm per minute which works out to be about 73 mm per second. And the reason I caught this is that I have an xTool F1 galvo type laser that does engrave at 4400 mm's per second and your diode laser is running nowhere near that fast. Not to be picky, I'm just a stickler for detail and accuracy. 🙂 But thank you for taking the time to make this video, do the editing and upload to RUclips. Have a great day!
lol thanks for catching that. I didn’t even realize I said per second.
Question for you! When I change to my 5" sanding pad, the sander starts making a really loud fast clicking sound as soon as it starts up (but doesn't do this with the 6" pad). Mine came with an extra rubber grommet but it looks to be exactly the same size as the one already installed - do you change grommets when you change to the 5" pad?
I honestly can not answer this. I don’t have the 5 inch pad. I only use a 6inch pad.
Did you find anything out about the noise. I changed to 5” pad after getting it today and hand the same issue. Took it back off and re installed haven’t heard it again but only used for a few minutes to mess around. Doing glue ups right now. Thanks for any info
@@brianhanley2933 So I'm embarrassed to admit the nut just wasn't quite tight enough. I didn't want to overtighten it originally and apparently only gave it 98%
I’m really leaning towards getting this over a festool or mirka. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and honestly the 3m has as many negative reviews about it. I’m pretty sure MaxxT has fixed whatever issues they were having a couple of years ago and by many accounts, they send a new one out to the people that have had them break down
I got the 5mm and its nice sander ,having some festool sanders exempt the etc 150 mm which cant afford it and went with this unit and its awesome , hope it lasts, seems its made by one manufacturer in china and the peoduce it in yellow blue red and black colors and the European version is called Varis
I’m glad you like it.
Using mine for about 3 weeks now. On separate circuit from shop vac, no issues w power. Big stupid project; when I use it I’m working over an hour-no issues. My main beef is the exhaust tube seems to be permanently attached and not one of the many many videos and reviews mentions that. I also have not found the dust collection to be any better than my little 5” Bosch. The Bosch is also just as smooth to operate. I have noticed that noise and vibration can vary significantly depending on the quality and grit of the sandpaper you use.
I use mesh sanding disks all the time now. They last longer and the dust collector works better.
A lot of reviews of the MaxXT sander say that it isn't very durable and it dies within a year or so. Same with the 3M sander. Mirka is too expensive for me though..
I have no issues with any of mine.
How is it compared to mirka ?
I have used a Mirka once and for the price difference I do not see a big enough difference in quality or usability to warrant the extra cost.
Great instruction
Thank you for the review, just what i was looking for
Glad I could help
Nice review & explanation. I like the 7303. It's an excellent combination tool. The 6" pad helps when you're trying to reduce a larger, somewhat rougher surface. 5" pad is great for more careful, smoothing sanding. Of course, planes, planer, scrapers, etc. are great ways to start surface prep with, often leaving little sanding to do afterward.
Thank you
Hi! Thanks so much for sharing information on the MaxXT sanders. Great video! I was wondering if you might be able to give some comparisons between this R7304 and the other style R7303. Would the one in this video do everything the R7303 does? If you could only get one, which would it be? Do both of them take the same backer pad? I do like that the R7303 can also be used with the 5” backer pad. I would guess R7304 would do the same but can’t find any info. R7304 is currently cheaper. Would love to hear your thoughts comparing the two - if you have a moment to reply. I can’t find any info comparing the two online and am still waiting to hear back from MaxXT directly. Thanks in advance and again, for sharing these videos!
Hello, Thanks for watching. I can do a short video for you this weekend.
I believe this is the one i need for sanding primer and clear coat on a car, the 2.5mm (or 3/32) stroke for a finer sand. If i needed to strip the paint to metal or sand bondo than the 5mm (or 3/16) would be the sufficient. Is that about right?
Yes. The 2.5 is more gentle on the materials.
I got the 2.5 today. Before i went to work i had a chance to use it briefly. I put a foam interface pad on it along with some 600 grit and man that thing sanded the clear effortlessly and its super quiet! No need to have a 80 gallon compressor with this! I shouldve got one a long time ago! @PruettWoodworking
@@Erik7prc it works great with a vacuum too.
What for to know wood surface moisture?
Knowing the moisture content of the material you are working with, will give you an indication of whether it’s going to shrink as it drives and crack or twist or warp
Is the brand "Max XT" or model. If model, what make is it? If you are hawking a piece of equipment, tell us about the equipment and less time demonstrating it
Max Tech is the brand and the model is r7303.
I’m thinking about buying 2 for my shop. It’s nice to see your reviews and still work after a year. I’ve seen alot reviews saying it quite on them lest then a month. So I’m still deciding
I have both of them. And thank you for the compliment.
@@PruettWoodworking has any of there sanders broke down on you? And how long have you used them?
Have had them for almost two years and not had one issue.
@@PruettWoodworking do you run them sharing off the same circuit as running other machine on at the same time? If you do run them off the same circuit sharing with our machine at the same time, do you see any performance changes on the sanders?
I do not run them on circuits as other high amp machines. My high amp machines are on circuits made for them.
Looks exactly the same as the mirka
Very close yes
actually this sander is really great, I use it for sanding my coatings on the walls and despite the dust it does the job very well, fast and efficient and it's the same on wood.
I use mine all the time.
I like this video thank you for sharing it to view ans i wish your channel more successful
thank you!
Just used your video to put mine together, thanks! Simple build once the bars are oriented properly, but the manual is pretty cryptic on that. I found it pretty easy to place the belts, as mine were naturally wanting to curl upwards at the ends due to being rolled in that direction for shipping. I just fed the belt in from underneath the back wheel, let the curl bring it up, fed it over the gear head and under the next wheel, and let the curl bring it up again. :) Pro tip from a retired machinist/fabricator: Once the belt is placed and roughly tensioned on both sides, gently push the gantry assembly to the very back until it is pressed against the rear of the machine on both sides, then recheck and adjust belt tension and lock it down. then you know for sure that you have the alignment set well without a bunch of fussing around. Doesn't appear to be critical on this machine, but never hurts..... Mine came with the rotary module as a package deal, it's built pretty well, haven't had the opportunity to use it yet. For anyone thinking of buying one of these, take note that the safety glasses that come with it won't fit over prescription glasses, so if you'll need the larger ones, you'll want to order them when you order the machine. The laser is rated at 445 +/- 5 nm wavelength. So look for glasses in the 400-500nm range.
I am glad it helped.
I bought one, failed straight out of the box. Complete garbage. My fault for buying a cheap Chinese knock-off. I've never had a new power tool fail without ever touching a piece of wood. A lot of other woodworkers are experiencing the same or similar issues.
I don’t know what to tell you. I’ve purchased the whole line and have not had a problem out any of them.
What power tools are NOT made in China these days? Or another Asian country….
@@mustelina Dynabrade and Surfprep are made in the USA, Surfprep has been on the rise with RUclips presence. But they are also miles higher in price, these are a good value I'd expect the company to make it right if I got a lemon, pretty sure it has a 1 year warranty too.
❤good
Does the basic set fit the Festool domino?
Yes it does.
If you can only use this for 30 or 40 minutes then it’s garbage and unfortunately I’ve just purchased one in the last month and have not used it for more than 10 minutes. I used Festool sanders for my work as a floor sander and could use it for hours without any problems unfortunately I couldn’t afford to buy one for myself but the price reflects the quality.
Nobody said you can only use it for 30-40 at a time. What I said was I use mine for that amount of time on average. I have used it for over a year now and built a lot of furniture with it. It is still going strong.
Well there’s a whole lot of videos out there with comments about the sander and it’s operating time before it starts playing up and the fact that it only uses sanding mesh disks makes it pretty expensive to own in the long run and I’ve noticed I get the odd shock when I’m using it and it’s only had around an hour use all in so it will be going back not the best first impression for me.
@@stubo74 I use standard papers on mine also. I just prefer mesh disks.
Can I ask what brand of paper as I’ve tried some all be it cheap ones and they just fall off
