Keep it up bro
Man, I don’t know. I’m a career filmmaker who loves using RUclips as a search consolidator. I noticed that whenever I searched for the new DJI Osmo action camera, of the 50+ videos that popped up, I could only recognize name (channel). I don’t know what happened to all of the channels that have built up their reputation, and my respect, for years, but they all seem to be dying off or getting away from Gere reviews, and now the market is flooded with brand new people I’ve never seen. I mean that’s good for them to start off the channel, and I suppose there’s always gonna be generations coming and going. But it was super sudden, surprising, and felt like going from college back to freshman year of high school. nobody could provide in-depth thoughtful analysis, just merely reading off spec sheets. If you’re going to be one of the hundreds with the RUclips channel circled around your career and interest, make damn sure you’re doing more than everyone else
@@Thats_my_Point I agree with this! I think a lot of people start off RUclipsrs but I want to encourage people who actually have knowledge, experience or a unique perspective to share it - tends to be ,ore useful than a college professor in a lot of ways.
@@servantstudios I’m about to start a stem teaching digital media production at a high school. I’ve been encouraged to take a few steps farther by recording lessons or summarize them in a high-quality RUclips presentation style. Who knows. Seems like a lot of extra work 😅 But we definitely both agree on the fact that people should be sharing real knowledge and perspectives. Not rattling off tech stats. Gerald Undone did a great job of digging in beyond the sales sheet stats. Film Riot has always done a great job of teaching singular ideas or sharing a new creative solution. Potato Jet was always a little borderline for me but he did at least do a good job with comparisons. I just hope this new generation learns a thing or two from those previous channels that did great, and we don’t have to fight through a crowded ocean absolutely mediocre info presenters

good advice on limiting lenses to start out
Very great advice! If you are starting to drive, don’t necessarily go to the Ferarri dealership right from the start. The same applies to selecting lighting / strobes - choose wisely after you understand how to use off camera flash! Keep that passion going - love what you do and giving back of your experiences.

@@NextPhotoShoot that is an honor to hear! Thank you! I am located just outside of Washington, DC
nice share, man. thanks for the insight
Excellent video. Thank you very much. I really like your teaching style.
This is an outstanding video. Thank you for publishing it. There is a great photographer - philosopher named Robert Adams, who I think, put it best when describing why people photograph. “At our best and most fortunate we make pictures because of what stands in front of the camera to honor what is greater and more interesting than we are. We never accomplish this perfectly, but one return we are given something perfect - a sense of inclusion. Our subject thus redefines us, and is part of the biography by which we want to be known.” Certainty this doesn’t apply to every genre photography, but certainly the type that you describe here. Well done!
@@mwkolleth1580 thank you! This is such a kind and encouraging comment!
Sweeeeet.
If aperture (and fractions) was/were taught correctly some of this wouldn't be an issue. f/2 should NOT be a "low" aperture. It is simply because people can't do fractions and see smaller number and go oh that's a lower value. Replace f with 1. Which is smaller 1/2 or 1/4. 1/4 is a smaller value than 1/2. It's that simple. f/4 is smaller than f/2. Now understand that f/2 is a measurement of the size of the aperture. Where f changes because f literally means focal length. If the focal length of your lens is 50mm. f/2 = 50/2. which means the hole that is the aperture is 25mm wide (50 divided by 2 or 50/2). Now when you close the aperture you LOWER the value from 1/2 to 1/4 or f/2 to f/4, in our scenario the "f" (focal length) = 50mm so we're lowering from 50/2 to 50/4 and we get an aperture opening of 50 divided by 4 which equals 12.5mm. It's not that hard but for some reason people dropped the / and turned f/2 into f2 and then started referring to increasing and decreasing the value the wrong way round because they couldn't be bothered to learn how it actually works. Sorry I got kinda triggered lmao this video was good and mostly focused on depth of field not aperture tbh.
Good vid and speed of explanations. DOF many people don’t understand and this will be very helpful to those individuals. Loving the “trap” part…. 100% RUclips truth. 😂
6:29 get that bLackground bur-bluryy hehehe This video is underrated and I wish I'd seen this before deciding to do some group photography on a 1.8 prime before I fully grasped this technical concept a couple of years ago. You explain it in a way that's easily understood 👍Nice work.

Sound? How can i get good audio in my videos using Mirrorless Cameras? Currently using Canon R6
Nice video and very helpful, easy to understand, simple and to the point, I got a rebel t7 as a father’s day gift starter camera, I have been wanting a camera to take decent photos as a hobby with family, travel etc. ,I’ve been playing around with it and trying to use it since I got it, I will keep this in mind going forward as I continue to learn when I’m adjusting my settings while taking pics, and also as I add more lenses, thanks
Please keep creating more such useful videos of complex subjects
Thank you❤
Great Video! thx :)

@@ivojansen7625 thank you! I am glad it helped someone
If you have a 24-70 and a fullframe camera, you can turn on the APS-C mode and now you have a 35-105 lens without spending in another lens. You will not notice a difference in video, and in photos they will be 10mpx if you have a 24mpx sensor or 24mpx if you have a 48mpx sensor, so it's useful too
A good way I remember F stops is think think “big is small, small is big” F2.5 is wide open - big open F10 is less open - small open Etc.
What do you think about the Tamron 35-150 over the 24-70?
Well I just got the 6700, and I'm going for the 16-55 over the 25-70 cuz of the 1.5 crop sensor. I'm also looking forward into a 70-200 F4 Macro in the future
@@tanner.quintero sounds like a strong kit! 16-55 is a tremendous lens and covers a little more than a full frame 24-70, I use mine on my 6700 almost all the time
This is good information. Right now I have a 24-70 2.8, 35-150 2.8-4 and a 35mm 1.8 but I really love shooting my 35-150 but I’m not sure if it will be good for weddings or low light situations. What do you think?
@@thecadillacoftokyo8788 it should definitely be good for weddings with a caveat: if the max aperture is f/4, it may be difficult to get full families in focus unless you really focus on having their faces lined up close to the same plane (I will be releasing an aperture video soon). For lighting, there will be situations where you need more light, but that’s what flash is for!
The difference is are you shooting photos or creating art, if your business model is just shooting photos of weddings and events sure the zooms will be your bread and butter, but if photography is your art and that’s what you’re out to create, primes are the brushes of the masters in this craft from street, photo journalism and portraiture to fine art it’s all primes.
Love this comment!!! I love the versatility of zoom lenses, especially when I have limited time during a session OR for events including weddings. But I also love primes and are usually lighter depending on the aperture.
Solid Video! Agree with what you shared. I've overbought too and realize less is actually more.
Tamron makes a 35-150 f2.8….def a great lens to check out
I subbed your channel. I feel your genuine experience. Really glad for the info. Help me to understand what lens should i get. I’m more into video. 24-70 may be the best option. But still it is heavy. I have sony ZVE1, maybe i should look into 24-50mm f2.8 that sony has released.
My mainly used combo for weddings and family since over 10 years are two full frame bodys with 35 1.4 + 85 1.2(or 1.4). if i need more reach for example to get a laughing couple at a far away desk during reception i either incorporate the surroundings into the frame or crop it out later. no hesitation there today with 45mpixel+ capable high iso and pinpoint eye focus, wasn´t this easy 15 years ago. If i could only take one camera and lens it would either be a 24-70 or simply a fast and sharp 50 depending on the job.
If to make money, you need full frame, there's something off. For crop sensors, the lens that's closest to 85mm in function is going to be a 60mm macro. This is a great moneymaker because it handles the portrait and close-up scenarios perfectly. The 24-70 CONSTANT APERTURE is fantastic - but variable aperture lenses are inconsistent with regard to style and colour. The bigger choice is f/2.8 or f/4 for this lens. Rather get a second hand f/2.8 than a new f/4 and shoot at f/4 or smaller. f/2.8 is for missing focus. The Canon 24-105 f/4 is an exception It's the best kit lens out there for utility. Everyone should spend a day and night with an 85mm on a crop body.
Excellent information. The 70-200mm is most useful for video recording events where you can't move forward. Still worthy to keep around. I use my Tamron 28-75mm lens on my A6700, which I might upgrade to an A7 IV.
Broooo how are you only at 197 subs?! No way! Anyway, I totally agree, 24-70mm is hands down the most versatile lens for most cases. Great breakdown and straight to the point 👌🏽 love the vibes bro and thanks for calling me out about my camera collecting dust 🤣 it’s time to pick it up again, long overdue! You got a new sub here 😎
@@HippieScientist welcome to the family! And thank you for the encouragement, excited to push the content up a level!
great points. these two are definitely the most capable, bread and butter lenses. definitely agree with keeping an eye out for used deals as people move on to different systems or newer releases. some great lenses out there for half price!
