I don't think there is Caesura in this poem as stated at 4:19. Caesura doesnt mean pause, it means punctuation mid line that breaks flow. See ChatGPT thoughts below. Have I misunderstood something? Open to thoughts/debate! But I think the video may be wrong...? ChatGPT answer to my questioning the video potentially mislabelling caesura. What is caesura? • Traditional Definition: A caesura is a deliberate pause in a line of poetry, typically marked by punctuation like a comma, dash, or period in the middle of the line. It breaks the rhythm and creates a moment of reflection or emphasis. Can caesura occur at the end of a line? No, caesura refers specifically to pauses within a line. If the pause occurs at the end of a line, it’s called end-stopping instead. However, sometimes a caesura and end-stopping might work together if the thought “flows” over multiple lines, but the punctuation creates a pause mid-thought. What might the video mean? • The video might be mislabeling end-stopping as caesura if it’s referring to punctuation at the end of the line (e.g., periods or commas at the line breaks in Shelley’s poem). • Alternatively, the video might be interpreting natural pauses in reading (even without punctuation) as caesura, which is a looser interpretation but less technically accurate. In “Love’s Philosophy”: Most pauses in the poem occur at the ends of lines, making them end-stopped lines rather than caesurae. For example: “See the mountains kiss high heaven, And the waves clasp one another;” If there’s no clear punctuation mid-line, it would not be a caesura. It seems the video might be mistaken or using the term loosely.

Similarly, the metaphor “Mouth of hell” creates the impression that there is no escape from the valley once it has been entered. This also alludes to the story of the Roman soldier, Curtius, who rode his horse into the mouth of hell and was killed sacrificially, saving Rome. i found this here! :) pmt.physicsandmathstutor.com/download/English-Literature/GCSE/Notes/AQA/Poetry/Power-and-Conflict-Anthology/The%20Charge%20of%20the%20Light%20Brigade%20-%20Alfred%20Lord%20Tennyson.pdf
