2017 FZ07/MT07 gear sensor issue - EASY FIX
I am not a mechanic and this is for informational purposes only. I had an issue with the display not indicating the correct gear or any gear at all. The problem could be that the electrical contacts on the gear position sensor need to be cleaned. this is a step by step guide on how I accomplished this.

Forget to fit chain gauard
Do you just use any kind of sand paper? And with the oil … a special kind of oil? Or just motorcycle oil ?
This started happening on my 2019 MT07. It doesnt show 5th gear. Im gonna try this method and will tell you if it worked.
Work?
dont know how this popped up but glad i did see it because my 3rd gear dont work so may try that cheers hahah
What kind of cleaner do you use? What grit Sandpaper? And what kind of oil? Thanks!
Best video and short! Thanks
dude. genuinely, thank you for this.
Best technical video I've seen. This should be the blueprint for all "how-to videos". Simply superb!
with this video a 6 year old could do it
very good only i thing i did see was do you even lube your chain? if i take my cover of after 3 months its full of grease there
My experience: The sensor is housed in plastic. Do not overtighten it because this dingdong (aka myself) did it accidentally and now it has a crack on the screwhole. The replacement unit is like $200 or more.
Such a good video dude! Mine wasnt going into neutral so olayed sround with the clutch cable and then found this video. This also helped it show 3rd gear woohoo! I didnt sand it dont have any sand paper but just cleaned it. Maybe ill samd it at a later date
Thanks this worked! Great video
About to do mine. Best and easiest video to follow it looks like
Hi, What type of sand paper did you use? Ty
Thanks for your video.. I managed to fix that issue on my tracer 700.. good tutorial 👌
mine keeps flicking between gear when riding. going to see if this fixes it.
Did it go work?
@@Squiideoh unfortunately in order to get to it i have to pull the clutch pack out. it doesn't bother me THAT much lol. 2016 Suzuki V-Strom.
Hey @thumperdude can you spray a bit of ACF-50 in the sensor to keep it clean and corrosion-free?
Why can't all how-to repair videos be like this? Quick, to the point, no fluff and explanation, everything he does is shown, all the dead time is cut, reassembly is included. Everything you need, nothing you don't
and he speeks very clear and slow that helps to
What oil did you use for the spring thing
yamalube. i dont remember the viscosity but use the same motor oil you put in your engine.
What oil did you use?
Looks like engine oil
Bookmarked for that rainy day.
Thank you brother!
Thanks for the guide! Just fixed mine :)
Thanks a lot, Im having a similar issue with my 2015, will give this a try
Many thanks to safe my time
is not only like that > the wire will broken inside (from vibrations ), you mast to clean the silicon of the back and welding the wire , then will be a good fix !
Awesome explanation.
Fantastic.
thanks heaps! issue solved after following your tutorial
Thank you. I fixed Gear sensor on my tracer 700.
Thank you👍
Did you add the chain guard back at the end?
I missed that part too :)
Which spray do you use to clean the sensor? Also, what type of oil do you use?
i believe i used brake cleaner. and i just use yamalube which should be what's recommended
Best tutorial i've ever seen. No shittalking, no music. Just the solution.
Thank you 🙏
