F100 Bendix Power Steering Box Leak: shall we do this the easy way, or the hard way?!?
Those little Power Products 2 strokes are awesome,in the seventies Dad was given one by a neighbor, the carburetor was missing parts and it didn't have a gas tank,Dad put a Lawn Boy carburetor on it and put it on one of those Craftsman magnesium decks, rigged up a fuel tank and we used it to mow tall grass and weeds on the hillsides near our house, one time I was mowing there and ran a copperhead out of the weeds, Dad told me to run over it, what came out of the discharge chute resembled ground beef but that little engine didn't die though.
Any updates in the works? Hope all is well.
This is the first timing job I've ever done. I've just gotten to the point where the timing cover is off and off and i can see the timing set. The key for my crank is a couple degrees left of being at 12, and the notch on the sprocket for the cam is at 12 instead of 6 like in your video. (I did set the engine at TDC before i started taking things apart.) Do I just remove the old set and put on the new one or do I have to set it up so it looks like how yours does with the sprocket for the cam at 6:00 and the key for the crank at 12? Sorry if this is a stupid question but like i said, I've never done this before.
@@benbeach4425 bar the engine over one revolution until they line up. You are not on TDC 👍🏻
@whiskeycreekcustoms6296 I had piston one at the top of travel. But that makes sense. It's counter clockwise rotation right?
@@benbeach4425 clockwise
Thanks for this video, it helps a ton. I’ve followed your video for guidance. Right now I can’t get the timing cover back on, for the life of me the bolts on the cover to the block just don’t line up completely. I can get like 3 of them, but the rest are too high to meet the block mounting holes. Any idea of what I’m doing wrong? I feel like just draining the oil and dropping the oil pan to put the cover on then reinstall the oil pan.
I had to swing the cross member out of the way and put the drivers side header in from below. Major pita.
You didn't even show what was inside😮
Straight pipe.
I have a 428cj 72 f100 I just got the exhaust done with an x pipe and dynomax bullets. Made it sound like a tractor at idle. Think I ruined it now I need to change the mufflers.
Are the ps pumps specific to the steering box? I see you kept the ps pump that was on the bendix. I'm thinking I will do the same unless the pumps are specific to the steering boxes
Take the head off look at the piston that will tell you if it’s a 305 or 350 if the piston is smaller then say a coke can the width then you my friend got yourself a 305
did you add the spacer in the new starter
Im not mechanically inclined, i was wondering if those gaskets always need changed when putting in a new starter? Just good practice? Thank you
@@AmandaRagsdale-j3p I have been told that remflex gaskets can be reused, but I don’t know if I trust that. For any other style of header gasket they should certainly be replaced to avoid leaks. Thanks for watching! 👍🏻👍🏻
Unpainted will reflect more light
I love the edelbrock. I hate holley. I hate having to do all the tuning that's required on the holley. For something you plan on driving alot. Edelbrock is the way to go

It's always weird to hear flowmaster mufflers with stock camshafts.
I have the same engine in 1979 C10. K04 13 C2R. Block Casting 3970010
Why does that chain and area look so dry?
@@ScottSellsSoCal it hadn’t run in close to a week prior to disassembly. Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
Question … why you didn’t use the original metal plate that you had on the fire wall…. Does the metal plate on the fire wall and the plate and rubber plastic on the floor seal changes when you switch from manual steering to power steering?? Thanks in advance
The intake manifold appears to be aluminum you can block the exhaust going under the carb some aftermarket intake manifolds come with this blinded others don't you can add a couple of pieces of metal on each side.
nice classic mower
Did you have to use the shim it comes with?
I did not. Thanks for watching! 👍🏻👍🏻
Congrats for trying to revive an old gizzer bravo!
Awesome video! I have to do this soon as my bendix is leaking also. Looks like a little bit of a pain 😢
What year is the grill and how hard was the swap?
It’s a ‘71 Grille. Was already on it when I purchased, but it’s a direct swap. Thanks for watching! 👍🏻👍🏻
I lkke it.
Yikes! I hope the inside of my 390 doesn't look that bad. I say to hell with the cheap stamped steel chrome covers that came with the car and ordered edlebrock aluminum covers and edlebrock gaskets. Hope that fixes my leaks permanently.
Really cheap lawnmower’s still require you to unbolt the wheel to adjust height
I love the turbine fan
Thank u, it was a very helpful
Glad it helped you! Thanks for watching 👍🏻👍🏻
I've been running the original 40s (not delta flow) on my F 150. Love em. I was goin to go with the super 44s next. Had read they were more aggressive. I also thought they were more aggressive than the super 40s. On the scale i seen most aggressive were the super 10, super 44, 40 original and then the super 40. IM NOT TRYIN TO CORRECT YOU. You've actually heard both, I haven't. THANKS, GREAT SOUNDING F 100.
Thanks for watching! 👍🏻👍🏻
Check flowmasters site, for most aggressive to moderate they show super 10, (original) 40 series, super 44, then super 40, then 40s delta flow even further down the line.
Great video, I inherited my grandfathers 1972 and am excited to learn how to work on it. It has an old Carter carb on it. Thank you for showing differences between carbs.
You are very welcome! Good luck with your project and thanks for watching!!! 😎👍🏻👍🏻
Oh yeah! Our family used to have one just like it. My dad used regular motor oil in the gas instead of 2-stroke oil so it used to leave a blue cloud behind it. I operated this myself when I was about 7 years old.
That would keep it well lubricated! Try that today and you’d have the EPA knocking at your door hahahaha! Thanks for watching! 👍🏻👍🏻😎

Oh my fkn God. Thanks for this video. I could not find out y my cam aliment was off. Dam c spacer. I watched videos all day and compcams. Can't even get thru to there help line. Thank you so much for this video

I'm from Canada wrapping your grinder like that here will get you busted and cracked cords in 30 below. I own makita 5" grinders I use a figure eight and have replaced the 6 foot cord with a 15 foot cord other wise it is a pain in the ass
We are in Canada as well, but on the west coast so we don’t have to worry about -30 😎 Adding a longer cord is a great idea, factory ones are always just a bit too short. Thanks for watching!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Cool old mower they don’t make them like that anymore. Now it’s all plastic.
Great video got a question is this exhaust loud enough for people to hear u kinda far away and can they here it idling a good ways away?
Hey Bud, Where did you purchase the headers from?
I got them on Amazon… Keep an eye out, they go on sale regularly! Thanks for watching 👍🏻👍🏻
I have a 3970010 with K10 on the driver side at the rear bell housing. And my suffix code is CMR. People have been telling me its a 305 as well. But your tread is changing my mind. Ive looked online on mutipule sites and 3970010 never shows up 305. If this number overrides the suffix code then it must be a 350. But i dont know 100 percent.
I’ve been told by several GM experts since I posted this; that a 010 block will always be a 350. The bore sizes are completely different and the suffix codes can be changed/mis stamped. I almost know for certain my suffix has been restamped at some point (when the block was decked during rebuild) because the spacing is not the way it would typically be from the factory.
Thank you for the reply. Im finding this fascinating. My front plate numbers are 141497098 all smaller font followed by a large space and larger font K0715(space) CMR. You have done some great work on your research. On my rear end of engine it has k10 next to the 0010 number. Which i think means nov 1st either 1970 or 1980 when it was casted. As i only have the engine and no vehicle to match the years. I was thinking 1980 305 with the CMR but because of the 0010 number and your amazing detective work. Im thinking i have a 1980 350 as those 350 went from 69-80. Much appreciated. I subscribed your channel. Maybe make an update video with your findings cause im sure other are having the same issues...thanks again
Can I ask what you paid for that one. I'm looking a couple here in Nova Scotia.
It was about $2800 CAD
Mr hevy shevy yep I have watched him almost as long as I have the this old truck redneck restoration channel lol Jeff Bradshaw. And you may like the revstoration channel and the this and that garage RUclips channels as well as matt kubik, and backyard Alaskan channels sir alot of Ford content on them and the revstoration channel and the backyard Alaskan seem to almost always be tinkering on a fe ford truck
For the people who don't believe that marvel mystery oil is nothing more than snake oil,go to the this old truck redneck restoration channel and watch the 1959 Pontiac 389 motor series it speaks for itself... and I can think of several different examples but that is a really good documented by video one...
Cool video sounds like that was alot easier than most header installs go lol
I certainly lucked out. It wasn’t exactly fun, but it also wasn’t a total nightmare!
Wow that reminds me of the bumpside Ford truck that u want to trade my dodge ram for the battery box has a piece of wood in the box so I would not expect it to come apart very easily either and I want a 68-71 Ford f250 camper special trim truck for a shop truck/farm truck wood hauling scrap metal and heavy guage scrap steel project truck but the truck i like is a 1/2 ton sport custom pkg but I am thinking if I put the 8-11 leaf f250 rear spring pack on the back of the truck and the coil springs on the shock load adjusted helper shocks it should do fine and if i break it ill just throw a f250 dana 60 under it or maybe a gm corporate 14 bolt rear something I won't break
Bag and tag your hardware or put it in coffee cans or coffee creamer cans but label them i absolutely agree..
Have you ever thought of putting the 71-76 ford f350-600 instrument cluster guage surround setup in the bumpside Ford truck i think it would be a neat change to the interior and I would not worry about putting a dash pad on it the painted bare steel dash usually looks just fine...
I kinda like the one that’s in it, but that would be cool!
