As the father of a Gen Z daughter who also happens to be the keyboard player in my band (and also plays bass and guitar as well )and WAS a subscriber to Beato’s channel until she saw that video referenced in this one , I can safely say you’re right in your rebuttals here . Beato just has a very narrow vision that basically begins and ends with 1991 rock music and everything else is tangetially tied to that.

Wow good critique! I sometimes feel that Rick's a little dishonest in his appreciation for newer artists or newer music. There's the subjective quality of taste. The pure beauty of something spontaneous and less premeditated which is part of both joy.and emotion or joy itself. Some music whether it has plenty of precedent or not gets us deeply enough and stays magical. That said, there's some music that won'tt appeal and I can feel it when Beato's not really interested in some of those he chooses to herald. He's almost pandering. Just choose those you feel are genuine to you I want to say. A few of video's are great I think but I don't watch him anymore.

I think that Rick is correct in implying that most people are not even aware of the music. And I think that it is not just because the games are captivating and or addictive. I believe that most people in general and probably particularly those who play these games are not aware of background music or even general sounds and music in their environment. Like background music on almost every TV show. Every commercial, Canned laughter and things like that go almost completely or entirely unnoticed by most people in modern civilization. The awareness level of people is very very low. Sadly.

My Gen Z son (16 yo) has a taste in music that is far more eclectic than Rick has and he rolls his eyes when I mention the latest video from Rick. Rick knows a lot about music and the industry. He knows nothing about generational views, however. His views about people are narrow and just plain wrong. These Zoomers are amazing musicians and Rick has no clue how much better they are than us Gen X and Boomers. Then again, he cannot figure out why Taylor Swift is a self-made billionaire songwriter who also writes for other mega artists. Rick needs to listen more and talk less.

Boy, you're making a ton of assumptions of what Beato might be implying about Gen Zrs. I've watched numerous episodes of Beatos vlogs and he has stated numerous times how he appreciates how the world of video gaming has introduced younger generations to songs they may have not have encountered otherwise if not for playing some games that use songs from other era's. Im going to do what your doing here and make an assumption of my own. Im going to assume you are not a consistent viewer of Beatos channel and you more than likely saw this particular episode and in said episode, Beato made this remark, you assumed that this was his whole view on the matter. So how am I doing so far? Am I spot on? If im not then thats ok see, because just like you did, I'm going by what I've deduced of you by this one particular episode you put out, see the semblances? More than likely not, huh? I think even if I were to be correct in my assumptions, you don't come across as a fellow that would be graceful and admit so humbly. In decades past.... every young boy and many young girls wanted to be rock stars. Not so much now. @8:03 yeah... it's the lack of creative writing skills. Some of the best music has come out of hard and crazy times... we are currently living in some crazy times... why is no one writing about it?!?!

I’ll just lay it out here. The truth is, people like Rick probably care more about putting content out to get plays for financial compensation from RUclips. A lot of this stuff is clickbait with desperate content. I do respect ricks opinions on some things and he has some good points. But at the end of the day, this is likely his day job and whether he has a valid point or not is irrelevant if you’re making money for the sake of content

Rick has 4 million plus subscribers. He’s doing something right. Yeah, I don’t like some of the music he likes and I may disagree on occasion but he is excellent at what he does!

Beato is frustrating because he's nearly great. His content is often actually educational as it has music theory and practice information, and not jut gear focused or him showing off. This is quite rare in the guitar-dad-tube world. Also he does have quite good taste, often surprisingly broader listening habits than people he features as guests. But this good taste and commitment to quality does not save him from being out of touch and judgemental. And perhaps most crucially, he complains about technological trends and approaches that he himself is totally dependent on. Beato is not out there crushing live gigs every night, or even recording other 'real' musicians very much. Instead he in his streamer dungeon, on the internet.

Music is what helps make a great game. I love the music in GTA 5. Even playing WOW back when u did. The music score was as epic as the game itself.

Yes, I completely agree and am older than Rick. He seems completely unaware of all the great young guitar-based bands that are touring and putting out albums nowadays. He seems to missed out on all of the music that would have been on the main stages for the first 10 years of Coachella, so-called indie rock. Still young bands coming up every year. And yes, I miss albums but have Amazon HD and a high quality audiophile streamer. And I still buy vinyl and CDs sometimes. He's out of touch.

I agree that Rick is a bit on the old head side, and can respect that POV, but I also think he’s just committed to what he grew up with or the type of music he played professionally. I definitely try to keep up with new music because I don’t want to be that old guy who hates on anything that predates what I liked. There is good music out there even though it’s different and uses different elements. It’s just different now. Just like every generation experiences.

When he talks about kids playing video games and not showing interest in music or much outside that is very true. I like to think the 90s was the last decade of the Sandlot generation. My brothers and I had Nintendo but we got bored of it eventually and went outside, played with friends, got in trouble, ran amuck and we were kids. I was heavily into music as a 5-6 year old. My parents played all kinds of great music and they bought me a cassette player one year and I raided my dad’s cassette case. Took Journey’s Greatest Hits, Foreigner, Kansas, The Top Gun Soundtrack, and a smattering of others. And listened to them all the time, especially Journey. Wore the tape out. But fast forward 25+ years later and kids are more into what’s on tik tok or glued to technology in one form or another. There’s no detachment from it. There’s a lot of great music out there new generations just don’t hear or listen to unless it’s in a popular movie like Guardians of the galaxy for example. Come and get your love by Redbone is a fantastic song. I remember hearing that in the car when I was 4 running errands with my mom. I liked it then. If they hadn’t included it in a mainstream movie like Guardians then newer generations probably still wouldn’t know about its existence. Because no youngster hops on itunes or spotify and looks up songs from back then. I know people at work who have stated they refuse to listen to and watch anything older than 2010 because it’s “too old.” That’s just asinine to me. So there’s merit to what Rick is saying. I walk into any place and it’s pretty much people just engaged with their phones. People work all week and get home and just waste away on technology. There’s nothing they do outside of that and it’s sad. They ask me what I have planned for my weekend and I say probably do some stuff with music and they just act like it’s the most boring thing. But hey, to each their own. Rick is great.

When Rick grew up America society was MUCH more suppressed - do much so that we dropped the visual entirely for the sound alone. We voluntarily downgraded our tech experience to evade suppression. That isn’t necessary anymore. Both the talent pool and the audience have put bandwidth into other paths. So maybe pull some paths together and make something new and maybe even relevant to today. Music once championed a crusade. Today where’s the crusade?

Music is a reflection of what society is going through... Back in the day society wasn't exposed to things as much as today, so music tried wake them up, it was full of emotion. Nowadays society is to awaken... people need to chill, so music is just full of vibe.

The truth is that most of the great guitar rock music I like is on RUclips. King Gizz is a perfect example. But they're not as big as I think they should be. There is so much great music/bands that aren't as big as they should be.

The golden age of car design was the 50-60’s. The golden age of movies was the 80’s. The golden age of comedy was 80-00’s. The golden age of music is ABSOLUTELY is not now. Yes that’s painful if you’re “gen z” but it’s true and quantifiable. Music sucks right now. Everything in music and movies is just IP mining.
