Thanks for the information! I'm doing mine right now and had been given bad advice by another channel 🫣 You saved my lard 😅 I subscribed and look forward to more of your videos!
So glad I could help! Would have been so sad to lose that lard! Thanks so much for watching, subscribing and commenting.
Made dish soap bars with my lard today and aim to get that video up by Friday!
@bigbarnlittlehouse7013 yay! My goal is soap so we can stop buying!
@@ashb4smoke Yes!!
The bags…What a great idea! I gave tons of fabric and I don’t need to worry about the paper getting crumpled.
@@maryinthemaking7211 They are awesome!
Fantastic idea! I’m going to try it.
@@Orangeshebert Excellent! Let me know how they turn out!
I'm a former quilter and my fabric stash is bigger than my yarn stash. Years ago, when trying to downsize the fabrics, knowing I'll probably not use 1/10 of them ever, I decided to make holiday bags. I took my favorite fabrics, and sewed bags of many sizes, figuring if I ever wanted to make something out of the fabric, it would be an easy rip-out of seams to repurpose it. I also had spools of grosgrain ribbon, and that got used as ties. They are tedious to make ( when you're making dozens) but they sure simplify wrapping and clean-up, as you said! and what a savings to the environment in so many ways! The bonus is, that once a year, I get to enjoy those special fabrics that never got seen in the stash cupboard.
Yes!!! I love that!!

Good job! I'm getting back into canning and preservation - Trying to find the time is difficult. I waited until the Farmer's Market was over 10/28 and then whatever I've had left (tomatoes/pumpkins/onions/sweet potatoes) is all I've done so far - along with some apple pie filling. I did salsa and just canned some tomatoes (for chili). Made pumpkin puree, froze alot of minced onions, and put up chunk sweet potatoes and sweet potato fries. I would still like to dehydrate some herbs. My challenge during the growing season is finding the time to do any preserving due to my full-time job and then growing the veggies and harvesting and doing farmer's market. We have alot of chicken frozen from our pasture raised chicken operation that we do. Never done anything with eggs - that is interesting!
@@delanietrusty8051 Sounds to me like you’re doing a ton!! Thank you for being here. 😁

Thanks so much for your amazing video! I really love how clear and easy to follow your instructions were. It’s obvious how much love you put into your home and work! I was very impressed by the gorgeous lard you made. I have some beef fat on hand that I want to render, and I was wondering if I could use the same method you showed for the pork?

Where / what area are you in? I have a dear friend in Essex. I didn't see where you were from but first thought by the trees and it's color was it looks like she is in Vermont; and you are. Beautiful state. Beautiful area.
Thank you for watching! We are in Southern Vermont.
I'm a seasoned canner and think that pints are a good idea. I think I'll try that too. I usually can quarts. Our granddaughter came over this week because she was under the weather (cold) and wanted some soup. I opened a quart of vegetable beef and the rest is still in the fridge. You're correct about not canning noodles or rice. The only thing I can say is to be careful who you follow when you're learning to can. You'll learn later the things you feel comfortable doing.
Thank you for the advice and also, thank you for watching!
OH WOW I just found you on here. I want to try all of this. I always have an over abundance of herbs this time of year. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome! Thank you so much for watching!
New subscriber here. Ya’ll are pretty squared away!
We're busy, that's for sure!
I really need to make chicken stock
Try it! It is so very easy and absolutely delicious!
Did you add liquid to the crockpot when you cooked the whole chicken?
Nope!
I am so impressed with your Brussels sprouts! They are my favourite vegetable but I have never been able to grow them successfully.
@@christineewing3492 It has taken a few years to learn! The key was amending the soil before planting and continuing to feed them nitrogen rich food every month or so.
Never know how to get all that dirt off the leeks. Thanks Rach!
They hide so much dirt!!
Me too! I have a running list of things to find and a measuring tape in my bag 100% of the time! Haha I am NOT missing out on a one-off item cuz I don’t know if it’ll fit. Not today sir. Not to-day!
Lol!! That's right!
Greetings, Ratio of salt to herbs dried and layered? What size is your Ball jar? Cheers, Upstate NY
I don't think there is an exact ration but as long as there is a good layer of salt in between the herbs, that's probably enough. The ball jar is a 24 oz, tall jar. I actually think it would do better in a larger, wider jar. It would have given me more room to spread the basil out.
@bigbarnlittlehouse7013 Gm☕️ 24 oz. wide mouth, and you get them recently? What about the amount of salt you used in the food processor? Ty...have a pleasant day. Cheers, Upstate NY
@@rachelstark2391 No real measurement but probably 1:1 ratio of salt to fresh herbs. Adjust to your taste. Jars are on Amazon!
@@bigbarnlittlehouse7013 😉 Ty
I enjoyed this as I have a lot of herbs right now. I'll try the herbed Salt. I'm told you can also freeze basil leaves if they are coated in olive oil. We'll see!
We LOVE the herbed salt!
I'm going to try some of the layered basil in the salt. Great idea!
