July Dry Fly Selection

Summer is in full swing, and so are the bug hatches on most rivers in the West. On any given day on the water, you can likely identify dozens of different hatches. With so many choices for both the fish and you as an angler, we thought we’d narrow down some of the shop's July favorites.

    Simms Europe Customer Service is the worst I have even been unforunate to experience, they make you feel like a criminal when you question the build quality of their products even though the item in question (G4 Guide wading jacket) was faulty! I will never buy another Simms Product because of this treatment.

    Is the Poudre a good trout spey river? If so, I'll be spending a lot more time out that way!

    • @aaronalexander1490
      @aaronalexander1490 3 месяца назад

      It can be a certain times of the year in certain areas. The Poudre has so much pocket water, it's slightly tricky to find good swing runs, but there are plenty of them to go around if you look hard enough. In the spring when the water comes up, but and it's more a "stained" color, it fishes fairly well with small swung streamers. In the upper river, when the drakes come off, it can swing pretty well with small thin mints and #10-12 soft hackles. I also like to fish chubbies on a floating tip so they hit the opposite bank with a splat, and skate smaller chubbies and caddis in the evenings for some fun "dry fly" type action.

    Yeah, but how good are the line nippers. Not all nippers are made equal. Forget the other features, how about show casing how the nippers work cutting different types of line.

    • @st.petersflyshop705
      @st.petersflyshop705 11 месяцев назад

      Howdy Brian, great point about showcasing the nippers cutting ability. All nippers are not created equally, which is one of the reasons why we wanted to showcase the magnetic features that the Pro Nipper has as well as the fly threader. There aren't many other nippers that have that built in... We can assure you that the Pro Nippers work great with a wide range of tippet material, braid, or even thick flouro's. The best part is, even if the eventually went dull over time/use, they offer a replacement process to make sure you continue to get the most out of your product. Happy Holidays Brian, -St. Peter's Fly Shop

    What does the cradle do?

    • @aaronalexander1490
      @aaronalexander1490 Год назад

      It is a bobbin/thread holder. If you need to use the rotary function, you can tie a quick half-hitch knot and then drape the thread/bobbin over the cradle to get it out of the way.

    What would be better for a diy 10 day moose hunt in western Alaska late September living in my waders . The G4 or G3 boots? I dont need any screw in cleats just wondering if any difference for walking through brush and humping big whole hind moose quarters on my back which boot is better?

      Hello Steven, I like the idea here. Not your typical fly fishing adventure, but some good food in the freezer. Id say both could get the job done for you, and although I'd hate to complicate your decision even more...but my mind drifts to the Flyweights purely for the weight aspect. If you have time, give the shop a call. Most of us hunt here and would be able to relate. (970)-498-8968. Thanks for asking!

  • @delablobbo
    @delablobbo 2 года назад

    I thought the price ridiculous. However, and it's a point you did not make, is that sports who tie their own leaders will love the nipper. The cheap ones go dull in half a season. When they do, you have to press mighty hard to cut the thicker strands of mono or maxima. The nipper will made leader building far easier and will last much longer in keeping its sharpness.

      Hey Ryan, thanks for reaching out on the review. I can assure you that as long as it is a 4 pc rod, it will fit a 13'6" Spey Rod. Have you gotten a chance to get out on the water with that Sage Sonic? Would love to hear how that rod compares to others you have fished. Give us a ring if you'd want to order a rod roll. @@st.petersflyshop705 right on! Thanks for getting back to me. Really appreciate it. Couldn't find anything anywhere along those lines. The Sonic two hander is a cannon. I have been using with Airflo Fist 570 grain on my 13'6" 8WT and it's been wonderful. Picks up line with ease, feels stout but stills gives great feedback, finish is superb (dark green blank is killer).

    Is this net any more difficult to get out of a summit sling pack than the emerger?

    • @st.petersflyshop705
      @st.petersflyshop705 3 года назад

      I think it would be less difficult due to the length of net and the leverage it creates. Is it the texture of the net that is causing the difficulty? Or just the size? There are several other options in this series. Give us a ring and we can chat about it (970)-498-8968

      First off, thank you. I would say they are pretty different in their desines. One is nice for smaller streams/bushwacking/and all around portability, and the other is nice for solo fishing, longer reach, and acts as a wading aid. For my style of fishing I would choose the Mid-Length every time! Fishpond's line of product are all designed very well together. The Summit Sling in particular makes it very easy to hold the rod. Check out this review to see why: ruclips.net/video/oTlqemBG1wU/видео.html I hope that helps, Thomas
