Cozumel Deep Scuba Dive 400 feet - 6 tanks (RAW)
(warning - this video is NOT exciting to watch. Absolutely nothing happens, which is exactly what we wanted.) We got dropped too shallow, because of the air consumption calculations we needed to expedite to the bottom. Did a lot more stirring up than we usually do, our bad. People ask why. Have you ever looked down, further than you were supposed to go and wondered? Me too. Well I haven't found any monsters yet, still looking down and wondering what's further down.
6 tanks, 10 minutes to get down, mandatory 2.5 hours of deco to get back to the surface. We go through the reefs and see the pretty fish and coral on the way up.

Great video. Glad you posted your dive plan. I am TDI Advanced Trimix and would love to do a deep dive like this in warm water. The last deep dive I did was on a wreck called The Kamloops off Isle Royale in Lake Superior. We did the dives in July and the water temp was 36 degrees top to bottom with no thermocline. The wreck is in 270 ft and lots of amazing stuff to see. I have been to Cozumel 3 times in the last 6 months and had a blast diving.

This is dumb people don’t do this no reason to dive 400 feet risk your life for what I’m a diver with 5 rescue dives and 147 open ocean dives and would never dive this deep

And in a way what they did is not very dangerous. It is well planed with the adequate gaz. It is much more dangerous to do deep dives, as many youngsters do, on air with no plan. I can understand most people are not attracted by those dives but I can understand some are like those who want to climb higher mountains...

I dove for a couple years, and the deepest we ever went was about 70 ft in Lake Michigan on a wreck dive. Surprisingly good visibility (about 60 ft or so) but it was SO COLD, about 48F on the bottom. You could actually see the thermocline as you passed thru it at about 20 ft.. The day we did the dive it reached 104F in Chicago. I was so cold it took me the rest of the day to warm up. This dive creeps me out just watching.

Wow that's crazy. Deepest I have been is 135 feet. I don't think I would ever want to go below 250ft, even with all the proper equipment.

  • @francislee174

I don’t dive, but aren’t humans crushed like a can 300 feet under water? What am I missing...? Your suit doesn’t seem pressurized, since your hands are exposed. Regardless, wonderful video.

    • @zorpzablelegaginlabbl

saturation/commercial divers go down to 400ft and below and their equipment isnt that much different, and without any really special stuff people (world record holders) have gotten to about 1000ft. from everything that has been simulated, basically anything below 1500ft is possible. but anything deeper basically requires one of those expensive ass submarine suits or else you will probably die.

Super interesting video for those who are interested in technical diving. I have two questions: What is your SAC rate and how much did you consume of your 125 cu ft Trimix 10/65 during this dive, specifically at 200+ ft? I assume you had doubles of the 10/65? How thick was your suit? Is neoprene useless at 400ft?

  • @TonyL-gw4qx

I’m sorry but there is nothing there but a very high risk of one or all of them dying at that depth. All the gear to surface all the risk and zero scenery? Complete waste of time. If there was something to see I can see going there but for nothing but dead coral and dead everything a fat zero!

What do you see at that depth? I'm thinking it's more the challenge of a six tank techical dive. That's fine if that's what your after. Just looking for the truth for this type of dive.

Forgive the potentially dumb question but, how do you dive a 10/60 mix on open circuit from the surface? Wouldn't you go unconscious at shallow depths?

You would start out using one of your breathable gasses as a "travel mix" until you get to a breathable depth of your back gas. (I am a Certified Trimix Diver). The 11% is breathable at 10meters.

You burn through all that non-renewable resource (helium) just so you could dive 300 feet past all the life you could see? Why? All it is is sandy limestone. What’s the point of this type of dive?

Been down to 40m on sidemount. Going deep just doesn’t interest me. You lose the color spectrum after 20m, no reefs and start blowing through a ton of gas. I’d rather be shallower for longer than go deep just for the sake of being deep. To each their own.
