In the UK hawala is legal as long as the operator abides by the money laundering regulations (MLRs 2017). This means they have to be registered with HM Revenue & Customs, maintain records, conduct KYC and source of funds enquiries.

Using this logic, *if* the Fed cuts its interest rate, one would expect bond prices 📈 to go up and yields📉 to go down *and* it would also make sense for interest rates to go down on new bonds *but* if you previously bought higher interest bonds they should be worth more than the purchase price and calculated interest if you sold them *but if* you buy and hold bonds to maturity, none of this matters. Correct?

Interesting , the stock market is currently experiencing a decline while bond yields are on the rise. However, there seems to be skepticism amongst investors regarding the Federal Reserve's plan to continue increasing interest rates until inflation is stabilized. As for myself, I find myself at a crossroads, uncertain whether to liquidate my $250,000 stock portfolio> I'm seeking advice on the best strategy to capitalize on this current bear market.

It's understandable that the current mass hysteria and panic are palpable. After all, we're not used to dealing with troubled markets. However, as you rightly pointed out, there are options available if you know where to look. Personally, I've been able to make a profit of over $850k in the last 10 months. It wasn't a complicated strategy that I used, I just knew that I needed a reliable and robust approach to navigate these trying times. That's why I hired a portfolio advisor.

You have a very valid point, I started investing on my own and for a long time, the market was really ripping me off. I decided to hire a broker, even though I was skeptical at first, and I beat the market by more than 9%. I thought it was a fluke until it happened two years in a row, and so I’ve been sticking to investing via an analyst.

The scary thing is how pervasive private equity has become in the U.S. Private nursing homes, real estate, restaurant chains, companies, you name it. I think over 30% of businesses are now controlled by private equity and growing. Given their track record it is not hard to see why so many in the U.S. are struggling. Bye, bye Red Lobster and reasonable rent.

The trial is over now, and we see that his game involved so much more than "borrowing from 4 mates to go gamble"; he was borrowing from more people than he could pay back, to fund elaborate schemes to naked short companies into collapse. He filled the market with counterfeit shares of stock that are still a problem. His fraud made Credit Suisse collapse.

The 40% return makes sense since the PE firm put down 10 million of its own money, the debt is secured with the assets of the acquired company, and after making interest payments they have a net of 2 million/yr. They don't face any repercussions if this deal doesn't work out since they can just asset strip the company itself as needed to pay off the loan, which in reality is more times than what Mitt Romney would admit.

Interesting facts however, if I purchase bond fund, and interest rate goes up, the fund price increases too. Cos fund company will use the new capital from investor or expired bond to purchase new bond which leads to higher returns from higher interest paid by bond.

Came here after watching Barbarians at the Gate, an HBO 1993 TV movie comedy drama based on the book by Bryan Burrough and John Helyar, starring James Garner as the CEO of RJR Nabisco who tries to buy his own company in 1988. The film follows the bidding war, the corporate intrigues and the humorous scenes of the tobacco industry. It tells the true story of F. Ross Johnson, who was the president and CEO of RJR Nabisco who decides to take the tobacco and food conglomerate company private in 1988 by a leveraged buyout after receiving advanced news of the likely market failure of the company's smokeless cigarette called Premier, the development of which had been intended to finally boost the company's stock price.

I think interest causes inflation. If you borrow £1000 at 6% interest it means you have to pay back £60 per annum, depending on the length of the loan. Straight away have devalued the £1000 because you are say that your £1000 is actually worth £940 and that you have to pay £60 more to bring it up it's future value to £1000. I believe devalue-ing money triggers inflation as everything has to increase to match the general devaluation.
