Snugpak Nautilus Base Camp Ops Sleeping Bag Review
I just bought a spray bottle of fabsil for it Works every time
Now available from "Temu" at ridiculously cheap prices............
This looks yuuge for a bivy
I rarely use a tent while stealth camping. I prefer stealth camping in the open, with a tarp incase of rain or a hammock if the terrain isn't flat. A tent doesn't give you the awareness of the surroundings. For wildcamping or stealth camping in remote places the tent looks great!
Each to their own! 👍
@outdoorswithrichard exactly like that! 😉👍
I've got one it's great. I paid a lot less than £35 though. Also i bought a small carbon monoxide detector that i always use with it 😊.
Carbon monoxide detector is a good idea! 👍
Good review there Richard, I presume it's only for use outside the tent or in the vestibule?
Absolutely correct! Always advisable to have good air flow when using gas! 👍
The only complaint or gripe I have about this tent is the entrance to the tent it doesn't have a two way zip so if your are cooking in the vestibule and it's really windy you can't just have the top part open to help with fumes or even with condensation only minor I know
I totally agree with what your saying, however a cracking little tent for the money nevertheless 👍
Should I buy one? well, in Australia this tent costs $2,550, as such that decision is made for me haha Excellent video though
Ridiculous price for a tent I know!
Loving the gold bling DAC poles makes all the difference for sure, compliments the green. Sold me on the Hilli thanks
It’s a great tent, you won’t be disappointed! 👍
Excellent review, thank you. I haven’t camped for years and years but am looking to start again. Review telling me all I need to know. Wanting good kit. At my time of life, Buy right, Buy once ! Had been looking at Soulo but worried about the size. There will be me - large frame and 6’2” and my collie dog 👍 Never used ‘footprint’. I presume they peg out first? Is that correct?
Thanks for all your comments! Getting out camping again will do you the world of good! With reference to the size of the Hilleberg Soulo, check out my video on the sizing, here’s the link! The Hilleberg Soulo - Big Enough For Tall People? ruclips.net/video/Qo9NwS7TNDw/видео.html Reference the footprint, this can be connected to the base of the tent, saving you time when pitching! ruclips.net/video/dYlvhOz5UvU/видео.htmlsi=crP13dgWK59iXGxa👍
Only downside I see from this bivi is you can’t lie in it on a fine night and have uninterrupted view of the stars. With this design and weight I know it’s cheap, but it seems to fall short of the lightweight of a true bivi while not providing the headroom space of a real tent.
No bivi or tent will suit everyone and for all occasions, hence some people have 2-3 different tents etc. But for the price I think this bivi offers good value for money! 👍
thank you for your review... is the expandable panel included in the price of buying the bag and with it does it fit in the stuff bag?
Thanks for your comment! The expandable panel is already attached to the sleeping bag, so you can use this sleeping bag as a standard size or unzip the extra panel giving you that extra width! 👍
I would find somewhere else I could relax without looking over my shoulder . Could be accused of poaching from there.
Stealth camping is about looking over your shoulder 👀 Also if I had of been caught I didn’t have any fishing rods or nets with me, so wouldn’t of been done for poaching! 🎣
@@outdoorswithrichard Why ? Just so you can feel like you got one over . I just dont see why you would seek to go to the boundary fence of a trout farm . Hey , boundary fence of a miltary base , see if you can sleep against the fence without getting noticed . 2 tins of stella for you if you pull it off ?
@ stealth camping videos are all just a bit of fun, as are most stealth camping videos on RUclips!
M8 have you got a good solicitor?
Very!
@@outdoorswithrichard he should advise you get better map me thinks . Why would anyone want to chose such a spot where they are constantly looking over their shoulder and cant chill . are you sure it's not just about the buzz of sticking it to the trout farm . At least you told them afterwards .
Great to see you documenting your outdoor adventures, as well as your excellent reviews. 👍 Nice to watch this the morning after my bivvy camp at anchor church. 😉
Cheers for your great comments! 👍 How did your bivvy camp go at anchor church?
@outdoorswithrichard Very well thanks. I didn't get much sleep but the experience was great. I wasn't spooked out by sleeping in the cave bizarrely but the prospect of being disturbed by uninvited guests! 😱🤣
@@coalvillenitewalker yeah I didn’t get too much sleep either, but the experience for me out ways the sleep at times. I never get spooked out, the more camps I’ve done, I’ve just got used to sights and sounds at night and I certainly don’t believe in ghosts! 😂
As for coloured tents, I must admit that I mostly do hammock camps. Whilst it's not required to blend in with nature, I appreciate that other visitors may appreciate not seeing a shocking coloured tarp in the woods. Although on most occasions I set up my hammock out of view. I always go for a camouflage or army green tarp. Although, the only thing I have purchased that nearly resembles a tent is a green Alpkit hooped bivvi.. Great to see you out in your tent.. I like watching others using tents whilst camping.,but don't aspire to own one...
Thanks for your comments, I must say I haven’t done much hammock camping myself, but would like to explore it a bit more! 👍
@outdoorswithrichard I have watched adventures with the marine on the RUclips channel. Whom as aspired me to try hammock camping and have never looked back. Maybe you can yourself get some tips on some of his videos for beginners. All the best
Great video... 👏👍
Cheers 👍
That was quite a risky stealth camp there Richard! I've worked on a few trout farms and there's nearly always someone wandering around checking things are ok, looking out for poaching etc. Well done, lol. As for tent colour, its green or sand every time for me, never red, but each to there own I suppose. Great little video.
Thanks for your comments! You’re absolutely right there normally are people wandering around groundsman, fisherman etc. I don’t know as the weather was fairly cool, if it kept most people inside the farm shop, or maybe I just got lucky! It was definitely a mission getting up close, it took ages to get where I did, but worth the effort! I’m pleased you liked the video and Green and Sand colour tents are a great and popular choice! 👍
Stealth Camping at the trout farm was a great adventure, I also don’t think a trout farm stealth camp has been done before on RUclips, so maybe a first! 👍
While it a great looking tent unfortunately heavy rain and wind it leak
I’ve never had a problem with my tent.
@ how long you own it how many times have you took it out in a heavy rain storm
@Bikepacking I’ve owned my Hilleberg Niak for over a year and had it in many rain storms and wind and it’s never leaked or let me down!
@ wow maybe i and friends where just unlucky\ mine 3 years old
@ sometimes these things happen unfortunately!
No, I'm afraid I'll still go with the Geertop Plume 2 for a budget bivvy................
Each to there own! 👍
There is a Lighttour R7.5 in the UK now with very strong performance.
Interesting! 🤔
Its a great tent. Yu can make it bomb proof by buying the extra poles and double pole it. I find creating the vestibule is a wee bit messy but i will sort it out. It is possible to sit inside the vestibule on a Helinox chair and cook, once you have shifted the footprint away. I have only used it on a couple of trips it will be fine..
I upgraded to the 10mm poles and upgraded the tent pegs and now it’s safe as houses! I personally love the simplicity of this tent! 👍
I enjoyed the review I only use 2 tents The Vango Nevis 200 and the Vango Hydra 200 What more do you need I prefer the hydra to this tent for the door opening system on the vestibule to protect from wind and rain as this design gives you 2 directions to open the tent It also has the same hydrostatic qualities as this tent All personal preferences Great review Kind regards Jeff
Thanks for your comments Jeff. You can’t go wrong with a Vango tent! 👍
more and more popular? Does it mean people are getting richer now? This is a $ 1k tent.
I don’t know about people becoming richer, but people that like Hilleberg tents and choose to spend there money on high end tents are gravitating towards a simpler designed tent, that is capable in most weathers.
Loved your philosophy on the tents pros and cons list and its so true, Ive seen a handful of reviews of this tent where people were having some complaints/comments on things which I personally thought of as pros, but it was a very well put together video and a tent review, cheers!
Thanks for your comments. Personally I think the Naturehike tents are great bang for your buck, I also believe what’s a pro for some is a con for another and visa versa!
Nice camp Richard, lovely winter one. Just subscribed from a fellow RUclipsr 😉👍
Cheers mate, really appreciate it! I’ll check out your channel and return the sub! 👍
Thanks so much 😉👍
Great video you are very professional and organized:)
Thank you for your kind comments, I’m glad you liked the video! 👍
Great videos. I noticed that you purchased hillberge tents. If you only can have one, which one would it be?Niak , Allan or the unna. I know depends on what sort of CAMPING you do and whereabouts you mainly gonna use the tent. Myself, I just knew Woodland CAMPING but sometimes in tight places I love your views on which tent would suit this situation.. be honest I’m 10 toward the unna. Just wondering, can you get the 10 mil poles and mash inner. If you could help me, keep on making great videos
Great question! To be honest I love the Hilleberg Unna, it’s easy to pitch, can be pitched pretty much anywhere, free standing and you have decent internal space where you can sit up, especially if you had to be in your tent for long periods of time! The Unna will also cope in pretty much any weathers! Some people think it’s not great in high winds due to its high sides, but Hilleberg recently up loaded a video of the Unna being tested in 60mph winds!! so that’s put those concerns to bed, here’s the link to watch that video ruclips.net/video/rjNFKU27hpo/видео.htmlsi=t4sDXulcU0AJk0qC Also if you wanted even more strength in your Unna, you can double pole or buy the 10mm DAC poles, you could also upgrade your tent pegs! The Unna is great for one person, but would be a squeeze for 2 adults! The Unna is also fairly light. With regards to mesh inner, these seem to be hard to get hold of for most Hilleberg tents! I would contact Hilleberg directly and ask them, I’ve always found them very helpful! The Unna doesn’t have a vestibule and is a deal breaker for some, but if you’ve watched my review on The Unna, you can see there are ways around that! Sorry for the long winded response, I hope this helps! 👍
Nice video Richard. I think the Unna is becoming increasingly popular as more people realise you can easily get around the vestibule issue. The mesh inner is hard to get hold off. I'm not sure Hilleberg would approve of this but the mesh inner of the Soar by Trekkertent will fit the Unna. It's really just a case of adjusting the length of the shock cord attachment loops. It's narrower than the proper inner so it automatically creates a larger vestibule. The corner seams are not seam sealed but you can easily do that yourself. It is if course a helluva lot cheaper than the official Hilleberg inner. Works okay for the summer months m.@@outdoorswithrichard
@@frederickridall628 thanks for the advice and tips, I might look into that! 👍
Guinness 0 %? Sacrilege!!! 🙂
It’s not as bad as you think 😂
"Hot Hands" work by chemical reaction with oxygen. Once warmed up, you pop them into a ziplock bag and expel the air, the reaction will stop, so you can reactivate it later. You can extend the life of them significantly.
Nice but to heavy for backpacking on multidays 😊😊
I would agree! 👍
nah I did a week with my dlx euro that's 3.6 kg ...🤷♂️
Great camp. Was that really a bird singing in those freezing conditions? Couldnt work out what it was.
Yes it was, to be honest I was surprised at that considering how cold it got! 🥶
Enjoyed your video of camping outdoors in the woods. Also an insight of the camping equipment your were using. Fantastic idea. Very adventurous on your part, camping in zero temperatures.
Thanks for your comments and positive feedback! I’m pleased you enjoyed the video! 👍
👍
Good to see you out and about............looked a cracking spot👍
Really enjoyed it, a great spot, one of my favourites, especially in the summer time! 👍
Great post buddy! An interesting tent, but at 2.6kg, that's far too heavy for me!🥵
It is a bit on the heavy side, however the storage bag is fairly weighty, so you could ditch that, also get some ultralight pegs, to lighten the load 👍
Excellent review...you set the standard! 👍😉
That’s high praise indeed! 👍
@outdoorswithrichard Excellent response time.... I'm still watching your video! 😮 I've just bought the Hunka XL but am considering this for next year. Your review has convinced me to put this on my wishlist. 👍
Treat yourself, a late Christmas present! 👍
Reasonably well made, big enough for 1 and gear. The proof that in most scenario you really don't need to spend hilleberg money to enjoy wild camping.
Totally agree! With this tent you certainly get plenty of bang for your buck! 👍
The Hilleberg Niak is a true 3 season 2 person tent, that can be used most of the year and in most conditions. This Hilleberg Niak Tent is a high end, 3 season tent, with high end specs and a high end price tag!
I must say, and you may already know. But when one gets out to pee, and even if you are wearing your rain gear... You are going to need a tarp over top. If one may open the door in the rain, your bag is going to get wet. I had a MMSS Military bivy when I learned this the hard way.
I always put a tarp over my bivy, as it gives me plenty of room to cook and sit, while protecting me from the elements! Also you can’t sit in your bivy all night!
Thanks! Excellent, and timely review. Just looking at this tent, after seeing the Tempest. Yours Aye!
Cracking little tent! You won’t be disappointed! 👍
Hi - can you give the details of the tiny pump you use to inflate the mat? I just received one of these Trinordic mats for Xmas but I don’t have a pump… Great review 😉👍
The one I used at the time in the video is the Flextail Tiny Pump x2: amzn.eu/d/90gZTTM The latest Flextail Pump is the Flextail Max Pump 3: www.flextail.com/products/max-pump-3 Both pumps are very similar, the newer one is just a bit more powerful! Hope this helps! 👍
I would buy this tent in a heartbeat but sadly I don’t believe that I would fit inside without both my head and feet touching both ends. I’m 6’9’’ (209cm). I had to go for the Kaitum 2 but unfortunately due to the footprint it takes up (around 5m). Finding a suitable pitch especially on a summit is very tricky. Thanks for the detailed review.
6ft 9” WoW that’s tall! Yeah you definitely won’t fit in this tent! Shame as it’s a cracking tent! Kaitum is a great tent, however at your height I’m sure you find a lot tricky, but I’m sure make it work! 👍
@ The Kaitum (Keron, Helags) series are also 220cm long but feature totally vertical ends making the space useable even for the likes of me but at a cost of size and weight (except for Helags). I own a Big Agnes Copper Spur “Long” which is perfect for tall users but wouldn’t trust it in bad weather conditions. I’ve thought about the Unna but again I think it’s unsuitable for someone of my height.
I used to have a Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2, I loved that tent! The Unna is a good tent, but do agree, it probably wouldn’t work for you! However whatever tent you have, you have to have confidence in it, when the weather turns!
Wow that tent looks just like my Snugpak Scorpion 2 and they also say that the tent is a two man tent which it is not unless you are sharing it with your wife or girl friend, and it sets up fly first as well, the color of the Snugpak is darker which i feel blends very well with the surrounding area, and i use it alot when stealth camping .
The Snugpak Scorpion 2 is a great tent! With regards to room inside, it is cosy, to be honest my wife wouldn’t want to be that close to me lol 😂 My dog however just puts up with me though! 😂 I do love the Pine colour, mind you most greens blend well as stealthy colours! 👍
I love my scorpion 2. For when it's just me. In looking to upgrade to the 3 for when my wife comes with. I like to keep my gear in the tent with me
Heavy though .i am doing south coast way for MIND, i need a lightweight 2man..any ideas?
Look at the vango radon ul2 Comes in at 1.8kg for a realistic 2 person tent . Or the radon 1 if its just you .
@rufusduck71 too pricey I'm afraid...good looking tent though 🫡..thanks chap.
If you see a tent you like, but a bit heavy, you can always ditch the tent bag, as they tend to be fairly heavy on their own! Also change out the ground pegs, for lighter ones! The total weight saving for those two things on their own can be surprisingly substantial! However also some times knowing the tent your carrying ticks all your boxes and gives you piece of mind, in my opinion is sometimes worth carrying the extra weight! 👍
Agree with that . Carrying less water /drinks and batteries for tec is a great way of saving weight from your pack. I consume way less water in spring than I do in summer . As for the radon 2 .I've got one and feel it could be the perfect 1 tent does all backpacking solution . It's £230 light enough for 1 man to carry big enough for 2 to sleep in well built / strong and stealthy . I've been looking for the perfect twnt for years .this may be it .
@ points well made! I think we all look for the perfect tent for our own wants and needs, but unfortunately I don’t think it exists! So comprise and common sense has to take over! 👍
May get one...if father Christmas is good to me
I’m sure you’ve been “VERY GOOD!” 😂
Similar to soul 200
Very similar! 👍
@@outdoorswithrichard but much stronger..🫡
I love this tent, but the weight is a killer on a tough trip. If I am going far, I use the Unna as it is bombproof too and less to carry. I agree with your comments on liking the safety and storm worthiness of Hilleberg tents. I don’t want to worry about my shelter! From the Tetons!
I agree the weight is a little on the steep side, but the confidence my tent gives me is worth carrying the extra weight! 😅 I too love my Unna and to be honest is now my go to tent for most camps! 👍
Big Agnes rapid sl tent floor fits perfectly for two people
I’m a big fan of the Big Agnes Rapide SL! 👍
