You might not always be standing, and trying to stand can create too much movement. So you'll have to shoot from a sitting or kneeling position. Practice it. I know this sounds like a "Captain Obvious" moment, but when you think about all the hunting shows or big name youtube channels, you almost ALWAYS see them shooting from a classic archers stance; and while its ideal, its not always possible.

    Nothing worse than hunting with a gun you have doubts about…. Just a thought but is it throwing the first shot with a clean bore? My front stuffers all do to some degree

    • @MiddleOutdoorsman
      @MiddleOutdoorsman 14 дней назад

      Good question. Offhand I can't say for sure, when I was zeroing, i always ran a patch or two between shots. The shot I made in this video, was a reload I made right after missing that buck from a day or two earlier. So, not a clean bore on that one. This was a passing thought I had earlier though. I know with a centerfire rifle, the shot placement is more consistent with a fouled bore. WIth muzzy's I'm usually keen to clean them right away, or at least within a day or two of shooting.

    • @PuskwaskaOutdoors
      @PuskwaskaOutdoors 14 дней назад

      @@MiddleOutdoorsman Be interesting to see a range test… might make a good video. Not sure what your cleaning routine is but I shoot mostly Goex or Olde Einsford powder, I swab with a fairly wet patch soaked in pure Ballistol, just run it to the bottom and let it sit for 10-15 seconds so the Ballistol can soak into the fouling then pull it out slow feeling for any carbon ring around where the bullet would have been seated, once you get the ram rod out just flip the patch over and do it again, follow up with more Ballistol patches if you want it “clean” or a dry patch if you are reloading it for another shot. At home I use Ballistol mixed 50/50 with water in a spray bottle, spray a good amount down the barrel and let it soak for 20min or so, run a patch or two down the barrel to remove some of the fouling and repeat a few more times till I can shine a light down the bore from the flash hole and see if I have lead or in your case plastic from the sabots and need to scrub it out with a brush…. For corrosion protection after cleaning use a non petroleum oil, I used TC bore butter for years but it never worked well…. Now I use some straight ballistol on a patch when I put my front stuffers away and that’s it…. I do dry patch before I load my first round tho just for good measure. You really need a fixed routine with a muzzle stuffer to be consistent, bullet seating pressure can effect things a little bit and that’s why you’ll see guys dropping their ram rod down the barrel to seat round balls, a dirty barrel can slightly up the pressures and velocity as well, petroleum based lubes start to cake into the rifling and cause inconsistent seating pressure and hard loading… lots of little details to it, and everyone has their own way of doing things… free advice is typically worth what you paid for it tho and I’ve seen a lot of guys do well who do everything the wrong way 🤣

    The only true gripe you should have is the sights. A lot of what you're describing sounds like a skill issue. I suggest buying or making some dummy rounds and conduct dry practice. Just practicing loading, cycling, reloading and dry press can help you overcome a lot of the things you think you dont like about the shotgun. The 835 is well rounded and versatile shotgun that offers a lot of capability in only one gun that is remarkably affordable.

    Looks a lot like my Elk hunting the last few weeks… decided to chase elk instead of moose, can’t decide if that was a mistake or not… Drove almost 3hrs to a new spot only to find it over run with people from almost 8-10hrs away, opening morning was an ATV circus so I had an extra cup or two of coffee and listened for the action but didn’t hear a single gun shot… talked with 15-20 other hunters and none had seen anything…. Put over 90km on my side by side during the day and found 2 single tracks, no bugles, nothing…. Scouted down into the big river valley where they normally hide and still nothing…. Started to rain around 11pm so I pulled up stakes to go to my normal spot but found 14 trucks with big 5th wheel toy haulers parked at the trail head…. So I just came home. Went to a little spot about 30min away from home that’s typically busy and not a soul to be found, let out a bugle at dusk and got answered back by 2 bulls, did a few mews and had a cow answer me back from 20 yards away. Can’t believe the number of hunters out this year, never seen anything like it.

      Sounds all too familiar! The theory that I'm sticking too is 2020 caused a huge uptick in hunting, or at the very least, put hunting into the public spotlight. Think back to 2018 or maybe even 2019, was it as crazy back then? I mean, aside from rifle season, that's usually a zoo anyway, but i'll bet 2020 either made it worse, OR made the tags harder to get because of increased demand.

    About the Carbon Fiber collapsible ramrod that comes with the Accura MRX: After looking around, there's A LOT of folks saying it breaks on them. The best criticism, is your trying to use a tent pole as a ramrod. Totally valid criticism. While I carried it in the field last year, I didn't try to use it. I should have tried it out. Reality is, something may have come in on Monday morning. It was eye opening just the same, checking out other areas. Impression I have is everyone has their spots they go to, setting up an ambush. Of all the ways to hunt, it's my least favorite, but most often used style. I'd rather run and gun or still hunt, but that's not your best chances of success where archery is concerned.

    • @MiddleOutdoorsman
      @MiddleOutdoorsman 2 месяца назад

      I seriously thought about going Traditional, until I looked at the availability of caps, and real black powder. Both seemingly hard to come by most of the time, and I guess substitute isn't so great for priming the pan on a flinter. So i just gave up on the idea. Though I think it would be cool to have a flinter, and make your own powder, and ball. I know modern inlines are inherently more accurate than traditional, and I'm pretty sure with the right projectile, and powder charge I can tighten the group up. Part of my problem , I think, is aging eyes. At some point, I'll have to swallow some pride and put a 1X scope on because of it, but I'm going to kick that can down the road as long as I can get away with a peep sight. At least for the next couple seasons.

    • @MiddleOutdoorsman
      @MiddleOutdoorsman 2 месяца назад

      Well, I own a bit more than what I show. Given the current state of things, I intentionally only show what I hunt with. There was a time when I too would clean my firearms religiously. Over the years, I have discovered that it really isn't necessary, and I only clean what or when, i need to. For instance, did you know a bolt action shoots more consistently with a dirty barrel? You don't clean scoped rifle barrel unless it's necessary, and after you do, you'll need to do some fouling shots again. If you let something like a shotgun go for awhile, I'm confident that if you hear a click instead of a boom, it's not because it's dirty. True story, my dad handed down to me his first shotgun. A Remington 870 wingmaster made in 1963. I don't think he ever cleaned it. Action was butter smooth. After I cleaned it, it was smooth as glass, but in either case, it still worked reliably. Semi auto's in general are a different story, though you can let some of them go longer than you'd think. Personally, where I used to look forward to going to a range with much enthusiasm, I simply don't anymore, It's little more than just a chore to be done, work almost. Firearms to me are just a tool to be used. No different than a compass, or choosing a method of camping. To put it another way, some people hike just to hike, to me it's just another method of transportation. Same for firearms, it's just another tool to hunt with.

    Lol you may think me mad, everyone else does. Lol. But regular lead boolits like the kind you cast yourself shoot better than any store bought. I got tired of spending $30 on 15 boolits. Tried it and was pretty amazed. By the time you buy the mold $37 on Amazon and from then on, you're set. Depends on what weight you want or like. They go from 240 to 420, so depends on that. I'm a big believer in the 250 grain real bullet. Sometimes people get to wrapped up in dime size accuracy at 500 yards. When really anything over 200 yards is just stupidity and no respect for the animal. Ethics is what my grand pa and dad called it. Not a lot of that going around these days. Peace. P.S. I got a 257 Weatherby for anything past 200 yards.

    Is it worth double the price?

      I think that depends if the extra's are worth it to you or not. The extra's being an adjustable trigger, adjustable cheek riser, ability to use a muzzle break, and actual stud to attach a bipod.
