Welcome to Virtual Voices!! Ocean Springs School District GREYHOUNDS (grades 9th-12th) and St. Alphonsus (Elementary) want to kick-off summer officially with their SUPER SPECIAL talents!
The Mary C is delighted to showcase TWO 'LIVE' Talent Shows via The Mary C RUclips Page. This FREE programming is part of an initiative to bring and share ARTS to our community during these challenging times. This is a chance for our students to BE STARS!!

Glue Batik for Kids

Hi guys! Here is a very simple glue batik project, suitable for ages 5 and up. For this lesson I used a piece of white cotton cloth (I believe I cut up an old pillow case), wax paper, Elmer's Glue, and watered down acrylic paint in cups. In addition to the Trent Lott Theatre being a popular rental space for public theatrical performances, the Mary C also has a partner organization, Walter Anderson Theater Project, that produces big Broadway musicals several times a year. This virtual Floral Workshop was led by Jessie Partridge of Maidenhair Floral in Ocean Springs! Twenty-five participants designed their own arrangements in their own homes using the same blooms. These blooms were sold to help a bride and groom whose wedding was postponed due to the coronavirus. We hope this inspires all of you!

This project is inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's Black Mesa Landscape. It is recommended for ages 8-11. We briefly discuss O'Keeffe's work, review warm and cool colors, foreground, middleground, and background, value, and touch lightly on line and form. Recommended supplies are oil pastel and paper, and a few clean q-tips. Can be modified for use with watercolor, and possibly other materials.
