    Why angle it. If the bridge is say 10mm and the neck is 40mm then why not make the neck pocket 30mm and then the neck would be flat, straight and the same height as the bridge

    • @AusLuthierSupplies

      That will work perfectly as long as the top of the guitar is flat. This guitar has an arched top so the neck needs to be on an angle.

    As a Luthier . I can tell you , Gotoh's percision is second to none ... Waverly quality at much lower prices... More ratio options. Why spend 600-700 on a set of high end Waverlys when you can spend 150-200 for an even better tuner ? Just does not make sense... some people will be willing to do that just for the name , But folks , these are tuners . Not custom Boutique guitars. I see Boucher is using Gotohs on their $7000+ guitars... I thinks says a lot

    Does the polarity on the pot matter?

    • @AusLuthierSupplies
      @AusLuthierSupplies 21 день назад

      Do you mean which of the lugs you use? You will need to hook it up with the correct wires on the correct lugs for the control to work as it should. If you mirror the wiring the control will work the opposite way when you turn it. If you were to wire an A-curve pot mirrored, the taper would be weird (there are left-handed A curve pots for this) but a B curve would be fine wired mirrored as the taper is even.

      We couldn't answer this for sure, but gloss finishes are much more time-consuming. Gloss finishes need many more coats need to be applied than flat or satin and the polishing of a gloss finish takes a lot of time.

    • @AusLuthierSupplies
      @AusLuthierSupplies Месяц назад

      Thanks for your comment. The frets will need to be levelled in a matching radius to the fingerboard. Usually a flat file or levelling beam is used to level the frets, but it is allowed to follow the curve while working on the radiussed frets, not held flat all the time.

    These may cost more than most players can afford so they buy $10-12 a pair ones and install them... But some adjustment may be needed so tha the 2 C clamps per barrel are loosened barely and the nut grooves are barely widened to allow strings to glide smoothly.... Any lubricant can be used with a toothpick to allow wtrings to sld in the nit slots smoothly.

      I have tried soaking the timber overnight before bending and found it can cause problems. It seems to weaken the bonds between the grains, leading to the grain having the tendency to open up to a crack during bending.

    • @AusLuthierSupplies
      @AusLuthierSupplies 2 месяца назад

      Good question! If the saddle is a fixed shape/radius, as in an acoustic guitar or a guitar with a tunematic, for example a Gibson, the middle 4 strings will automatically be set once you set the outer 2 strings. If all 6 saddles have height adjustment, as on most Fender electric guitars, you will need to adjust all 6 saddle heights. Each string should step up in equal increments.

    • @robbiedaug

    When i look down the neck to see if the frets are uniformly spaced, I see the first fret sticking out noticeably. Would turning the truss 360 help to straighten that? I have good action on the guitar but after weeks of adjustments the high E string is just a tiny bit sharp at the overtone octave. I haven't seen any advice anywhere on this. Is it too radical an idea?

    • @WilliamLassley
      @WilliamLassley 22 дня назад

      Sounds like you might want to see if the fret can be tapped more into the fret slot. Very carefully with a rubber hammer. If not, you’ll need to file that fret down level with the rest of the frets.

    Calling TUSQ material "plastic" is NOT correct. If anything, TUSQ is most likely some sort of ceramic material.

  • @jerbear1601
    @jerbear1601 3 месяца назад

    TUSQ is easily the best nut material to use. I just replaced one on a Strat style guitar with a preslotted TUSQXL and all I had to do was sand down the height until the first fret clearance was right when holding down the strings at the third fret and I was golden with 10-46 strings. The manufacturer used NuBone which was a version of this material but they only filed the slots down poorly instead of sanding the nut height and got terrible results and deep slots robbing the tone from the instrument. The slots only need to be deep enough to keep the wound strings in so they don't pop out ( about half way or so ).

    I have a problem where the saddle on the low E is so far back that the string sits perpendicularly, as opposed to be slanted at an angle. It's the only position where the intonation is good. Is that gonna 'cause any problems? Would a modern style bridge help?

    • @AusLuthierSupplies
      @AusLuthierSupplies 4 месяца назад

      It's quite common for this to happen, the saddle needs to be wound back that it's in line with the hole the string comes out of. It's not ideal but it usually doesn't cause any issues.

    • @AusLuthierSupplies
      @AusLuthierSupplies 4 месяца назад

      That's great the bone works for you! If you ever want to do an experiment to see the difference between bone and Tusq try getting a nut of each type and drag a string through the slot slowly. You will see the Tusq is slipperier due to the Teflon and other lubricants in it.
