Yea we do this like even spotted my friends do this to ny german boyfriend. But he wants to learn it too and despite that the two languages are close in nature german tends to turn word order around sometimes and have different spelling for some too. He has to tell em too that hed rather speak dutch to them to learn

That literally never happened to me... It's always people insisting on speaking in Dutch even when I speak in English, including in a critical situation at a hospital.. but maybe it's because i don't live in the Randstad
