Why the (normal) ALFA ROMEO GIULIA is a Sedan like no other 🇮🇹 (english vid)
Ciao, I am Luca, a Journo from PiediPesanti, a RUclips automotive channel and blog from Italy 🇮🇹 A lot has been said about the Italian sport Sedan #Giulia that is bringing back #AlfaRomeo to life (and to RWD), especially about the 2.9 V6 510 hp Quadrifoglio. But what about the "normal" 2.0 280hp #Veloce AWD? How much does it cost to own? Is it reliable? I try to respond to your questions in our...

I am American and have never owned a European car. But something about this one really grabs me. I am looking at getting a 2 year old Veloce with low miles for around $27k USD. I don't think anything compares to that in this class of car.
Hi Luka! Wonderful video, loved it! Your english is very good as well. Please make more Alfa Romeo English videos. I would like to make you a question, because I'm saving some money for buying this pure Italian blood wonderful and beautiful car. Which will you advise? The Giulia Q2 or the Q4?
I want one really bad! I would take it over a German vehicle any day. Also, awesome English video! Thank you for doing one! I subscribed because of this video alone!
It’s hard to find a negative Alfa Romeo review. Everything is glowingly positive from the reviewers and owners.
They fun asf get one!
Love the video, I’m trying to get one soon.
Great video Luca. Regarding fuel consumption on long journeys - I recently did a relaxed drive across France in my 2018 Veloce with very little hard acceleration, mostly in 8th gear - which of course is overdrive. 40 miles per gallon was easily achievable. On quiet roads in England, staying below 70 mph, 42 mpg is possible. Of course high mpg is not the purpose of this car. In normal mixed driving on England's slow and busy roads 36-38 mpg is the normal consumption if it's not driven hard. This Veloce is a truly brilliant car, with 0 - 60 mph times very similar to a 4 litre Maserati or a 5 litre Mustang, whose fuel consumption is of course vastly greater. Top speed of 150mph is also similar. A low weight of 1400 kg is part of the reason - those aluminium panels really make a difference. The perfect balance of the car is another factor in its fabulous handling and driveability. The sheer joy of driving this beautiful car is expressed very well in this excellent review. Many thanks.
Thank you... good video.
Nice and funny video. My average fuel consumption with my Giulia Super 2.0 (tuned from 200 to 280 ps) is 6.6 li/100km. Mostly at highway max 100km /h and 10% city (and 90% highway). For the short trips I take the bicycle of course 🙂.
I am in Canada. In the early 1990s I had an Alfa Romeo 164L. It didn’t like the snow, it didn’t like the rain, sometimes overheated, but I LOVED driving it - it was a manual. I am now seriously thinking about getting a Giulia. I would like to have it as a kind of a retirement gift to myself…
I love Italian people,Italian country,and Above All,Italian cars!!! Giulia is a MASTERPIECE.
Didn’t know these were still being sold in USA… couldn’t be very many.
I like your enthusiasm, keep it up! Nice Giulia, driven in Bella Italia
Salve! Cari saluti!
I needed to replace my Ford Edge and fortunately my wife reminded me that we had been in the Alfa store to have her 500 Abarth serviced and that we should look at Alfa's. We drove out with a Ferrari red Stelvio and I could not be happier. The design is beautiful, especially the front aspect, and I love the performance and the fuel mileage. Never mind that I am 93.6 % Italian (23 and me). I have owned 4 Merdeces and 5 Porsches the latest being a 996 Twin Turbo. Alfa makes a great car!
Bought a diesel cloverleaf Giulietta new in 2016, 36,000 miles later and it has not missed a beat. Not even a failed light bulb. Looking to change it but cannot decide between the Giulia Veloce or the Jaguar XE, really torn!!🙄🙄🇬🇧
Bought a 17 Giulia base last year with 13k on it ..except for a b.s. sensor it's like no other car I've owned! Waiting for the right circumstances to swap it out with QV. Luv it!!!
Alfa Romeo Giulia have soul, others cars not. I enjoy every Kilometer with my Giulia...
Honestly I don’t understand the critics about the interior design!! For me it looks amazing! Specially the navigation being so well placed. Not like a mini monitor attached to the panel like a quick fix in Audis and BMWs
I never realized Giulia Ti meant Turismo Internazionale. What does Te stand for? Turismo _______
Thank u for this video.. I just bought this car.. I love her. Just wish she was a bit louder. I'm in california . And people do admire her
This brand has a bad reputation for reliability here in the USA. People are scared to buy it.
Picking up a ‘23 Estrema next week in Alfa Rosso. Could not be more excited.
That’s cool! And the color is simple the best on the Giulia 😊
Ciao Luca, nice review. My opinion is 90% of drivers stop messing with the paddle shifters after a month. I just bought a Stelvio Lusso which thankfully doesn’t have those paddles. I don’t know why reviewers are so enamored with them. I will be at the Alfa Museum this June and will wave when we drive through Milan!
Hi tom! Thanks for writing. I don’t know I still mess a lot around with paddle shifters in D but I understand that big majority of people don’t 😂 well that’s cool! Write me if you stop by. Should be cool
Senza copyright? 😮😍👍
I have the Giulia and an Alfa 4C. Like you said “Just go and buy it!” We have had all the German and English family sedans. My Giulia has been my favourite family car of all time! ❤
You will always have certain people criticising alfa romeo and italian cars.mainly from german garbage owners .to me nothing comes close alfa deep in my heart.......
loved the video!!
Nice video. I have owned two Giulia 2.0 280hp in the US. First was a 2017 drove it to 100,000 miles and now have a 2022. Both were (are) daily drivers. A couple of things I noticed are the quick steering ratio (as the reviewer mentioned), 32-33 miles per gallon on the highway traveling 70 miles per hour, the placement of the engine (it's weight / inertia) nearly 100% behind the front axle (check where Audi positions the engine), the carbon fiber driveshaft, the ZF transmission which holds high revs upon and right after hard acceleration assuming you'll want to mash the pedal again plus slightly downshifts on declines to help save brakes. The hood is light aluminum and this car is perfect for long 80-83 mile per hour cruises even if there are steep hills.
Great video Luca, it really does give you the idea of how much fun it is to drive. More video of Alfa please. Best Marco
Thanks a lot, Marco. I'll try to do more international contents
Enjoyed the review, my Giulia Veloce arrives in two weeks and I’m hoping it’s as much fun as all the road tests have claimed. Monthly payments will be stretching my finances, but as a disillusioned 54 year old family man I’m hoping it can give me more to enjoy each day and will be my first Alfa for three decades. I owned 8 in the 80’s and very early 90’s, one 79 Sud Sprint Veloce, two 1.5ti Suds, four 116 Giuliettas and one Alfetta GTV/6.
Thanks Brian. If you owned alfas in the 80s you'll surely have enjoyment by the Giulia. And, yes, as disillusioned men we can achieve satisfacion in driving such old school beautiful machines
Thanks for the interesting review. You mentioned that you had reviewed the Jaguar XE but I can't find it. The XE and the Giulia are on my final shortlist! You said that the Giulia was way better, so it would be good to know why. Have you stopped making videos, as I see that there's been nothing on this channel for a year?
thanks to you! The XE review is on Piedi Pesanti channel but it's in italian. Xe anyways was a big disappointment, especially on the driving side. I should do more videos in english, I know :)
Cali owner of a bad ass giulia traded my Cla 45 in for one and I haven’t looked back! So many compliments after all my aftermarket upgrades
u should post your mods bro bro
Ciao Luca. Great review! May I ask acouple of questions? 1. Can you deactivate the "Start-Stop" system? 2. (I know it is a strange question...) How do you compare the Giulia TI with a Golf 2.0 R?
Ciao Jacopo. (ma sei italiano?) 'course you can deselect the start and stop system by the dedicated button on the left side of the steering wheel! :) (there is no strange question whatsoever!) Comparing the Golf to a Giulia is quite impossible. I love the Golf but RWD is always RWD. Another world, another story. The steering of the Alfa is just beyond everything else and the joy of driving given by this machine is difficult to achieve with almost anything else. Having said that, Golf R is faster. I'd personally go for the Giulia because is RWD architecture.
@@luca__2649 Ciao Luca.
Resto dietro alla colonna B. Idem all’entrata!
Hello Luca, you are totally right about the standard 2 liter Giulia. I love mine, and it doesn't even have the paddle shift. It is an amazing car, I hate to stop driving it. The best car I have ever owned. The Quadrifoglio would only mean trouble...505 horse power doesn't make sense on public roads...you just can't use the car's potential But the standard Giulia is perfect. Love your video. Thank you.
I have finally tested a QV and it was too extreme for me. A bit too uncomfortable for a daily driver. Brembo brakes took 20 min to warm up and get a gradual feel. Really more of a street-legal racing car. Veloce is a much better driver. Less torque, ok, but with 8 gears and a quick transmission you feel quick enough.
@@jacopovalentino Again, I have to agree. As I approach my 80th birthday, the QV is just more car than I need...and probably more than I can handle. My base model Giulia is just as fast and aggressive as I want to get. And for those who have the QV and love it, I totally understand.
What are your thoughts on fake engine noise - the noise generated through the car speakers? I’ve read the Veloce has this, does yours?
Hi Kasimir. I hate fake engine noise, it is a trend that should be extirpated. Nope, the Veloce hasn't got it, at least until the mY2020. Mine does not have it and it's an absolute bliss.
👋 Ormai mi vedo pure i vostri video in English 😁. For who wants to buy a sedan car about 2.0...you MUST consider the Giulia, Giulia veloce etc. Good and powerful engine, precise steering and very beautiful design (outside and inside). It's something like a Ferrari Sedan 2.0 for family... Ferrari doesn't do car like this, but Alfa Romeo yesss... Alfa and Ferrari/Maserati has the same owner. 👋👋👋👋👋👋
grande Antonio
@@luca__2649 Thank you 😁
Cleveland Ohio loves Alfa Romeo! Just crossed 20,000 mi in my Giulia worry-free! Can't wait for my next one 😊
I can figure why, Greg! What a car
You can tell that he is driving in Italy by 3 things: turn signals are optional, speed limit is a suggestion and stop signs are there to allow birds to rest on it. And of course 1 or no hands at all on the steering wheel, because talking without flail your hands is not possible if you are Italian :P Nice video, I was very interested in hearing more about reliability, since this car has quite some nasty reports at least in US
how can you talk without hands, come on 🤣 Thanks pal. Except some issues with customer service no major complaints about reliability whatsoever. Now she has 40,000 miles on the clock.
@@luca__2649 I know ! :D I am just worried about not having parts available if a sensor goes out... You said that your car was sitting at the shop, and honestly this is quite unacceptable (yes, the car is "just" 40K USD; but that is a lot of bread! ). Beautiful car nevertheless; thanks for the video!
Lease it. That is what I did. After 4 years, if it's good, I keep it. If not, I return it and move on.
Congrats, great video Luca! I love the Giulia and enjoyed your commentary. BTW your English is extremely good!
Thanks a lot John!
Fantastic video. I have a Giulia and the car is a complete blast. Cheers from Los Angeles.
Thanks a lot Francisco!!! Enjoy the Giulia in the beautiful LA
Grazie mille! Che figata la Giulia in Florida. Goditela
I was looking at it since 2016 and waited till 2020 for all the minor issues to get resolved. I love my blacked out 2020 Verde Visconti Giulia 19" Y spoke wheels and yellow Brembo brakes. Even BMW owners come tell me how nice it looks. I very seldom see one on the road. BMW and Mercedes are all over and in used car lots.
Yep it is quite uncommon outside Italy, and here as well a "well configured" Giulia is a rarity (90% of the Alfas are quite basic, grey/blue corporate fleet diesel ones). I personally love less common things. The Model Year 2020 has resolved almost all the issues, especially quality related ones. Now it looks really sleek
Great video. 👌👌👌
thanks
Thank you for the review and all the details especially the steering aspect ratio that's interesting stuff and that this is a magnificently handling machine
thanks for appreciating!
Really enjoyed that, and your English is perfectly understandable, and for the most part, has probably fewer errors than some 'native' speakers!🤣👍 Ciao!
Thanks a lot Jon 🙏
I always loved the way Alfa Romeo made the Giulia. The car was built beautifully. I sat in the giulia at the Orange County Auto Show in anahein California and the seats were very comfortable and I also loved the way they also had put in those huge bull horn paddle shifters. One day this year I'll buy one of my own.
Luca, I am in Canada and because of your review I think I am going to get one of these. Great review!
Thanks Ray. Really flattered
I got dizzy in the first 3 mins of the vid :D Nice vid tho thanks Luca
🤣 sorry pal. Gotta learn to keep a position. Thanks a lot tho
@@luca__2649 I come from 20+years of owning performance/quick BMW's I am picking up my 2018 Quadrifoglio today, rather excited to say the least :D Thanks again for your vid ,was interesting to hear about other elements of the car like steering ratio, I drove a 458 last year and loved the steering in that, so hoping the same for the QV now :D
Great Video. This is needed for sure. Ciao
Thanks a lot!!!!! Ciao 🙂
I don't mind getting a 2.0 Veloce Ti, less road tax, better mileage and cheaper maintenance. I can live with 280 hp, nobody drive above 200 kph all the time.
very true! A manageable daily driver that has still more power than the large majority of other cars, especially here in southern europe.
