HOW LONG does it take to REALLY set up and pack down an iKamper?

All day, we’d been asking our guide, Igor, about the possibility of making the climb to the top of a building. Due to the various factors that need to be considered when in the Zone, Igor never gave us a solid, committed answer as to whether this would be possible. We were about to climb a building we’d seen before, not paid little attention to. A 16-story apartment block that overlooks Pripyat...

What did you put on the floor of your ikamper?
@@OffRoadOverlandCamping hi there, theyre just simple carpet tiles. Keeps condensation at bay on the floor, and helps a little with noise.
18:02 no you don't. Compare uk prices agaisnt US and Korea ikamper websites. The margin is ridiculous!
Thanks, super helpful!
Great review! Glad you called out the noise factor. I move around a lot and my standard mattress drives me crazy. I’m sold.
@@chopkinsize I’ve never looked back since I upgraded. I get a great night sleep on the Comfort mattress
Well done!
Michael, I watched your video mentioning the Flextail pump. I had hoped that the Flextail pump fittings would snap/mate to the reversable valves of the comfort mattress. As it turns out neither the i Kamper air down pump nor the Flextail will do so. It is my hope that mentioning this on your site would be noticed by someone who could help me ease the process of airing up and down. There must be a better way than standing on a ladder and holding the pump in place for the duration of the task. Thanx Tom
@@Thomas-o2y7x unfortunately it sounds like you must have got different adaptors to me? Because one of the adaptors I have (a thin grey one), lets me clip the pump onto the valves and leave the pump hanging. So that’s what I do, so I can be doing something else for the few minutes it takes to inflate
Great tips. Do you have or getting the annex?
@@curtrobinson6883 we haven’t got the annex, but have the awning. I do plan to try and make a video about it, just life got very busy!
@@MichaelYarde thanks for the reply. I order my 3.0 skycamp on Mar 12 2025. The company that makes the roof rack couldn’t get it done when I needed it, so I’m waiting till spring. My first trip will be into the Owyhees in Oregon. Check out the video.
Great video and tips. Question: how do you tighten the clamps around the front crossbar? The long tool they give you is too long to use due to the close proximity of the crossbar to the cab? Thanks
@@1402702 I collected my RTT from iKamper UK HQ, and during the fitting process, they swapped the 3.0 clamps out to 2.0 clamps for this very reason
I was thinking you would include inflating RTT comfort inflating and setting up bedding and packing it up
There's separate videos for that on the channel if you're interested in that :)
“An unresounding success”?…either an unreserved yes, or a resounding yes, no?
I'd use PETG for outdoor stuff, better temperature resilience, better for water and better flexibility.
@@twsbibanghorn7343 it’ll agree. I only had PLA so just thought I’d use it for the sake of printing the items for the video to display the models. In all honesty though, the PLA is holding up ok 👌🏻
@@MichaelYarde I've only just started using PETG, and it is much more forgiving as it has a little more flex and less likely to snap. I left my PLA tools in the car, the summer heat deformed them just enough to make many unusable. I'm going to try them out in the Swedish winter (average -20c) and see how they do. Trying TPU for the first time this weekend. Have fun with the printer and I will definitely be printing the occupied sign and shower button holderinner 😀
Gas cannister base for stability
plz upload EP 8 Chernobyl: A Conversation with Disaster
the blooper explains all. I made a diy awning as you...then i bought the original that zips to the tent :)
Thanks for the vid. PLA for outdoor/camper use where it can get really hot and melt? You must live somewhere much colder than me.
@@JesseStarrPhoto no, you’re 100% right. PLA is absolutely not the best material for these items. It’s just all I had to hand in order to print stuff to display in this video. Maybe PETG?
noice mah-ress ya gawt therre myte
Great ideas on the next version
It's a bit quiet, not yet.
woops
survival box?
Great video. I just got my mattress and like you said, the picture instructions are vague. It wasn’t clear how to use the pump either, but I expect one needs to get the $15 accessory to attach to it. I hit your affiliate link to order the FlexTail. 🙏🙏🙏
mattress is shit in the ikampers
@@verlorenerjunge5921 completely agree. It’s not unique to iKampers either, the majority of mattress supplied with RTTs, I think, are very poor
Just got the 5082. I'm worried that the bolts and nuts on the tent floor are going to rub against the mattress. Anyone else worried about this?
I’d never really thought about it, as I’ve covered my flooring in carpet tiles. Could be worth looking in to?
@@MichaelYarde i contacted ikamper. Hey recommend that the bolts/nuts are covered with those plastic covers or some other material to ensure that there is no contact with the mattress.
very cool
“unresounding” - you keep using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means. That is unless you mean to say your support of the tent is undeserving of superlative adjectives.
"resounding" I use
@@MichaelYardenot watching it all over again but for example goto 23:45 and watch a few seconds yourself. You say unresounding repeatedly in this video; maybe you’re not aware. I’d chalk it up to accent but it seems pretty clear to me un-resounding. FWIW - Not shitting in you. I enjoyed your video, but with your mentioning your being a teacher I figured it was worth the pointing out. It’s like the buddy who loves to use irregardless or the like.
@@MichaelYarde06:30 …just saying
This is great. Thank you for the demo and explanations!!
You are very welcome, I’m so pleased to hear you found it useful
Great Video, thanks for taking the time to make it!
very good tips
Great video!
Great stuff!
So many things you can print. Plates, cutlery, tent pegs, guy rope stays, fishing floats,...
Do you need to level inclinometer somehow ? I noticed that in your car is not in perfect angle of horizontal line.
You can essential calibrate what "level" means. I mounted the inclinometer, then levelled the tent / car the "old fashioned way" then calibrated the inclinometer to accept the value when the tent is level as zero. I can't remember the specific settings on how to do it, but it's all covered in the instructions :)
@@MichaelYardeThanks. I asked because I do not have anywhere in the car any flat surface so it will never show the correct value. Also, the back of the car is a bit higher to the front. Im asking for inclinometer to be used in general offroading to know how bad is your position or how far to the angle limit etc
@@marcing4287 Yeah, it could definitely do that. Mount it where you want it, park the car as flat as you can, then calibrate that as flat. Then that way, the inclinometer will show the relative angle
Great stuff! The hacks are exactly what I needed as I put together my overland rig. Thanks and keep 'em coming!
Incredible video! Just purchased my Skycamp mini 3.0 and pick it up in a week. All these modifications are well thought out. Thank you for taking the time to make a video on these mods and for so nearly listing the links in the description. Will definitely buy from the links you provided. You deserve all the added revenue mate. Subscribed 🤙🏼
That is so incredibly kind of you to say. Thank you so much! I wish you many many happy nights in your iKamper!
In retrospect, would you have gone with the regular size or do you think the mini was the right call? We looking at a tent too and during bad weather it would be probably easier to spent time in a bigger tent. Love to hear your thoughts. Thx
For my tent is mounted to my truck, I could only ever have gone for the Mini. For the two of us, it’s ample space in all honesty, the full size Skycamp would just be that extra luxury. But we’ve been tent bound on a few stormy trips and never really felt like we’ve struggled for space. In fact, I really like how cosy you can get the tent to be, and I think a large part of that is down to the size of the Mini. The only other type I’d consider would be a wedge type tent (so an iKamper BDV), but that would require a very different set up on my truck (a rear canopy that would bare weight), and the only reason for that would be, then the tent is purely contained within in the footprint of the vehicle, but even with that, I’d buy my Mini again in a heart beat
Where can I find these camping showers? I keep finding nothing but trees
I’m about to pull the trigger on the 3.0. Does iKamper usually release new versions yearly? If so typically when: spring, summer, etc?
Hi there, No, it’s not an annual refresh. This was purely a speculative list. There’s normally a good few years between releases. The original Skycamp was 2016/17, and we’re only on v3, so a while off yet - if at all - for an 4.0
@@MichaelYardeexcellent! Thank you for the fast response and good video! You have really good suggestion. I just started shopping for a rtt and would hate if I buy the 3.0 in a few weeks and then the 4.0 is released. But since it’s not a yearly refresh I’m less concerned.
@@miami3863 the 3.0 is still an excellent tent and I absolutely love mine. Even if a 4.0 came out with all of my suggestions, I’d still not be disappointed with my 3.0! 😊
You can buy the thermal internal tent which makes it super warm in the winter
I'm considering it, but my main issue with winter camping is having somewhere to dry it off if it gets wet.
Super helpful review!! Maybe I will get one of those sometime soon! 🎉🎉🎉
@@MichaelYardebut it goes on the inside of the tent. Unless the tent wets thru I don’t see how it’d get wet. It basically fits in place like a quilted blanket with plastic elastic toggles or something and creates another air barrier to slow heat loss.
Thanks for sharing - really great tips. Best wishes from Colorado.
Great review. We ordered ours a few weeks ago and are looking forward to starting to use it.
You’ll love it! I don’t get much chance to use mine through the winter months, and I really really miss it. You’ll have many happy adventures to come
I’ve had my min 2.0 for few seasons. Still love it. Going across America with it.
Sometimes i feel like that red bull can... 0:49
Man, I feel you
why did you delete all the focus rs videos man i used to love watching them😢
They're still on the channel, just private. I've moved the channel in a new direction. I haven't had the focus for 8 years now, thought it was time to move on
Did you ever feel the need to buy the insulation tent?
Lowest I've camped is -1degC, and that was really cold. 3 season sleeping bags, sleep in jumper and trouserers with a blanket on top, we managed, but I imagine it would have been a lot more comfortable with the insulation tent. But I don't do a lot of winter camping, as I don't have anywhere to dry the tent after a trip
Love your vids - your 'tips for RTTs' are really good. Want to get into this -but I'm not a small person. And I don't mean tall. How sturdy does the ladder feel to you?
I’m 17.5-18stone, and the ladder and tent are absolutely rock solid. And with a second person of about the same weight, the tent is very strong. I’d have no concerns
@@MichaelYarde Thanks so very much for the info - appreciate it!
Excellent video! Great tips!
Absolutely agree with the solar panel and interior storage ideas. I've got the 2.0 and I might think about upgrading to a 4.0 if and when it comes available! @rita_the_ranger
Solar panel, storage and diesel heater plus 12v power supply inside is a clear NEED!
👍
