I once took all the drinks that are cousins of this and combined them for fun, Absinthe, Pernod, Richard and Ouzo... There are probably more but most of these are the same licorice ish flavour and are usually watered down ans absinthe has the sugar thing associated with it. I took 1/4 tablespoon of each making one table spoon and 9 tablespoons of water making the classic to some regions 10/10 spoons total 1/10 spirit and 9/10 water and some sugar... And I expected the worst thing I've ever had... But it became my trademark drink as it was honestly quite refreshing and amazing! I happen to be a licorice lover and these drinks are my favourites! I'm currently experimenting with different salmiak based drinks and other liquorice flavours to add to the mix to create the ultimate multicultural liquorice drink! So far I'm stuck at these 4 as the others kind of ruin the thing, but I still have hope! Maybe it is not combinable further but we'll see! 😝👍 Anyway I love absinthe so thanks for the video, but drink responsibly people! Drinks are only fun so long as YOU are in control of the glass, not the other way! Not to get all doom and gloom but it's important! In other words don't end up like my dad! 🤣👍

I made it once the wrong way with wormwood. The second time I made it I used wormwood leaf. There is a significant difference. The wormwood leaf will turn the alcohol a bright glowing radio active looking green. That is what you want. I havn't drank alcohol in over 8 years, but I can tell you that it wormwood leaf turns it into a completely different thing.

The reason why you hallucinate from absinthe in olden days was that the eccentric types that Absinthe was go to drink, first they are already kinda crazy, second they probably were so high on opium or psychedelics that the saw god already, Third most likely had well progressed syphilis (or the cupids disease "absinthe makes the heart grow fonder") and fourth it's a STRONG drink.

In France, absinthe was banned after (among other things) a highly publicized case of intra-family murder. The media relied very heavily on the fact that the culprit had taken an absinthe early on the morning of the murder (suggesting that without the absinthe nothing would have happened). The media just forgot to say that the murder took place in the evening (6-7 hours after absinthe) after the culprit had taken 3-4 liters of wine during the day plus several, many glasses of rum and other spirits. In short, at the time of the murder, the culprit was no longer under any influence from absinthe but rather from all the other alcohols he had consumed. It is also noted that at the time there was the idea of an "absinthe disease". Illness which brought together a set of symptoms which 100% current toxicologists would describe without any possible doubt as methanol poisoning.
