In this video i explore a fuzz pedal I've been diggin lately. The single coils are lollar blonde’s, and the humbucker is an Imperial low wind. For those who read youtube descriptions:) if you go to jrrshop.com and search for "gesi face," and use coupon code - stereointellect - youll get 20% off the pedal... this is not a sponsored video. Eric is a friend of mine and i genuinely like the pedal.....

that 100 cable you have is not necessary or matter if you have good guitar and good pickups
and dont play clean true test is heavy djent heavy power chords. try periphery song or korn or something . best test
doesnt matter the speakers works with shitty or the best Celestions
p.s. just get a 50$ little vox combo and put a board on the open part on the back sounds just like a marshall 4x12
@@PixelPusherGames I’m sure it sounds definitively like a marshal 😜 JK… whatever works!!
@@stereointellect not saying thats loud or big enough for a show or anything just saying you would be pretty surprised my bad
they use closed back because its makes it tighter and puncher . its that simple
dude you wasted half the video talking and being a dork . and talking about your cables and shit that dont matter people want to just simply hear the difference between open and closed combo amp or amp period . nothing more nothing less. i appreciate you but thats why you under subed bro dont do that singing crap and all that just get to the point. rock on
Amazing!
Hey there! I just found your videos. Did Fred give you that guitar tilt stand? My brother made several and sent to Fred. I knew Fred years ago and had a few of his first amps. Cheers!
@@garypatrick2881 hey Gary! Yes sir, got it years ago, send me an email at stereointellect@gmail.com and I can fill you in more :)
Open back is the way. Much bigger sound
I prefer the sound of the open back
@@eddiebaby22 I’ve for sure been rockin open back more in the last few years…mainly because I play live without in-ears more often
i actually have this amp....didnt know it could do half of this stuff.. LOL. thanks! i honestly didnt know it had two seperate channels on the volume...i just never messed around with it... i have alot of amps and i just never messed with it like that.. THANKS FOR THE DEMO!
@@breakingblackmagic7617 haha right on!!! That’s exactly why I wanted to do these, so people just know how to fully use the amps!! Thanks so much for the feedback:)
WHILE THEY BOTH SOUND GOOD THE 12 INCH HAS A BIGGER FULLER SOUND TO MY EAR CHEERS 10-18-24
@@denieledwards6893 yeah I think it’s the extra midrange in the G12H that makes it more audible …
THE 25 WATT GREEN BACK IS THE WAY TO GO FOR FAT SMOOTH TONE, CHEERS
@@denieledwards6893 I love greenbacks… however, with one single, they seem to be too flubby for me, and when I gig with them, they have much less midrange, so in a dense band, with loud drums and a keys player and another guitar player, it gets hard to hear…
@@stereointellect I BEEN BEEN A PRO PLAYER FOR 50 YEARS PLUS, NEVER HAD THAT PROBLEM BUT YOU COULD TRY A 30 WATT CELESTION LOT'S OF VIDEOS OF PEOPLE TRYING MANY SPEAKERS LOL CHEERS
@@denieledwards6893 I suppose it depends on what guitar you use too… just for me, a single greenback is always too squeezey and lacks midrange…
What axe are you using model and year. Great finish! traditional pro iV? Great video thanks!
@@johnperiard9594 hey thanks , that is my buddy’s R8 (58 standard) Gibson custom shop reissue and I believe it’s 2008
I also grew up playing metal and I think using open back combos is the only reason our drummer didn't become completely deaf.
@@taylolz 🤣
I have the JRT 9/15 which I think is similar with fewer features. These amps rock!
@tanukibrahma the JRT might be my fav, no master volume being the biggest difference, plus pentodes…
How loud is this amp with speaker
Great video. Which one would you be your first choice use for blues rock, country.
Thanks:) I seriously would use either. The 12” is maybe a few db louder at band rehearsal
@@stereointellect Thanks for responding. I meant which amp would be your choice?
@@blackberryjamchicago oh my apologies!! (Dunno why I thought you responded to my Princeton video)… as far as amps, I’ve used almost every amp I’ve demo’d for blues rock and country… for instance- I used the CJ 11 at every gig and recording for 3 years… and that was from heavy country rock, to worship, to jazz and everything in between…
The 12" live sounds amazing but the 10" sounds much better on the track. Glad you mentioned the out-put transformer getting in the way when changing speakers, a good warning to get players to measure the space and choose a speaker that won't bump into any part of that out-put..well done!
I used the 12” for a few months, and actually didn’t like the frequency response in the band context, it lacked top end, and focused on maybe around 1k… so I got a 60’s Oxford 10”, I’ll prob do a video with it soon…
!2" was my fav... nice video man!
That les paul thru the 10inch is the holy grail sound for me
@otaviosmartins1 it’s a great sound!
I’m really digging this demo. I sold my JRT 9/15 years ago, and have wanted to replace it ever since. What would you say separates the CCC from the JRT? Thanks!
Hey thanks, the biggest diff between JRT and CCC is the front end, they both have the same backends … EL84’s and 6v6’s… the JRT has the two pentode 5879’s (RCA). Each volume is voiced differently, one thicker with more gain, thee other is brighter and cleaner, and you can use them fully independently, as well as 6 way tone (only for the thicker dirtier volume) and an overall cut… the CCC has the same front end as the CJ 11, so the large difference is the master volume, you can play much quieter with the CCC… you may remember the JRT being quite loud… 😉
What could. I do to get more headroom for louder cleans out of the Princeton Reverb?
Turn the bass all the way down, and raise the volume. I like the treble right on 4-5, maybe 6 for humbuckers
The Princeton tops out headroom right around 4-5… but I usually run a little more “edge of break-up.” If you’re using humbuckers, maybe around 2-3 on the volume, tele or Strat you can run 3-4 and have clean… definitely keep bass low as it will overload the circuit… clean headroom is what started this whole speaker comparison, and what is hard to show in the video… in band context, the 12” IS a little louder, so the clean headroom is a touch louder , but still feels like you’re topped out with a loud band…
It seems you can't go wrong with either!
Hi. Just stumbled across your video. Very interesting and informative. I gig with a Marshall 4x12 greenback cab and a JCM 800 playing rock. Now I’m on the fence about what cab would be best for gigs in bars, small clubs. The 4x12 is a lot to lug around so maybe something lighter/smaller would be better. Two things are very important to me though, how the cab feels and the onstage sound and obviously also how it sounds front of house. Any ideas on the perfect cabinet for this purpose? Cheers Keep up the videos.
@vintagesound8112 hey right on thanks! Thee advantage to closed back live is the sound stays in one spot to me, so if you need the stage to be tighter sounding, that helps… and obviously it’s tighter feeling for rock… but that can also be a disadvantage when there’s not side fill monitoring or your NOT on “in-ears.” That’s where open back is awesome, it fills more of the stage/room, and yeah it’s looser, but for me I find I’m not playing quite as distorted these days, so that tightness isn’t as much of an issue… in your case i’d probably play an open back 1x12 and closed back 1x12… more to bring to the gig, but might make you really happy:) thanks for the positive feedback!
Hi. Thanks for the reply. That’s an interesting solution, so two separate cabinets combining the advantages of closed and open back. How big are the cabinets themselves? Are they like a typical Marshall 1912 size? I’ve heard of people using 1x12 cabs before but can they keep up with a heavy drummer? Also there are Barefaced cabs with their Avd porting but I’ve never heard anyone using those. Great sound with the Les Paul by the way. Cheers
@@vintagesound8112 if it were me, I’d just get a couple of avatar cabs, one G112 convertible, one G112 vintage, maybe vintage 30 in open back and creamback in closed:)
Thanks. I’ll check those out
I’m surprised these vids don’t have lots of views. Great content!,
@MrGus937 hey thanks for saying that!!!
Nothing compares to moving air but the ox is solid. I am forced to use the ox 90% of the time the way my home studio is set up but I still love mic'ing a cab when I can.
@j 100% with you
Excellent comparison. As always, both sound great.
@Jeff McErlainThanks a ton Jeff!!
First instinct was that I liked the 10" better. Nice track/playing too btw.... and nice lighting : )
@Adam Watts so would you rather push midrange with the 10”, or pull midrange from the 12”???
@@stereointellect depends on how this amp lives in my amp collection. If it's my only amp, I'd choose the speaker that sounds the biggest, so it could serve the largest number of applications/functions.... bigger more full range sounds to smaller more focused tones... and EQ depending on the song. The concept of cutting or boosting EQ is one I consider a lot... boosting tends to reveal the sound of the EQ itself along with the source.... whereas cutting (conservatively) tends to reveal aspects of the source (in this case that particular guitar/amp/speaker/mic/pre/tone). Modeled EQs (like a Neve 1073 versus a Pultec verses an SSL channel) sound pretty drastically differently than one another, and that's a tool I use a ton... (test it! It totally reveals what colors you have in your crayon box!).... whereas if I just wanna transparently mold a tone (especially via surgical cutting or broad boost) I'll use the Massenberg or a similar, more transparent EQ. There are deeper, nerdy things going on with some EQs too (the way cuts and boost interact and how they deal with phase shift etc)... and that can all play a role.... But back to the amp... just so I can make this reply even longer and more boring!!... and because I'm so caffeinated.... I would lean toward playing a few different guitars through both speakers... pick the speaker that all the guitars sounded the best (or perhaps revealed the differences in guitars in a cool way).... and make that my choice... then, I would "EQ" the tone with the guitar and mic choice as a first plan of attack.
@@adamwattsmusic that’s an epic answer!!!
I couldn’t tell the difference at 5, but the 12 really stands out at 8.
@Derek Fried it’s way harder to hear the difference in the clean setting…
And how can you expect anybody to hear the guitar track with that lousy backing track? Do you actually like that shit?
What are you running the variac voltage at? I have both a AMW39 and RSA23.
@JimiMag I’m pretty sure it was between 75-80v… it’s been a while, but I usually ran it right around 77v… played love with it there too, was always on the verge of too loud, but pretty manageable …
Man, I like the 12 better but the 10 might sound better in the track! Apart from being a little quieter I think it's more shiny and sparkly in the mix with the bass and drums maybe. Great sounds my brother! I'll take one of each!
Such a touch call, I’d have to push midrange with the 10”, and pull midrange with the 12”
@@stereointellect maybe we need an 11 inch speaker!
@@coryclarksounds I concur
There are two knob FF that get above unity gain. Hendrix used his to push his amps, for example. A little research confirms that the original circuit and its clones get unity gain somewhere around 3/4 of the way up. Why doesn't this guy just use a lower value output resistor?
@augustus betucius not sure 🤷🏻♂️… you can message JRRSHOP about it🤗
I've always said if you can't play acoustic guitar then you're not a real guitar player. Nice going. By the way I suck on acoustic guitar.
@string locker.. hey thanks a ton for saying that!!
Bitchin!!!
Hah!! 😘
Can I ask what model SG that is btw? Killer sound! Been checking out all your D13 amp comparisons
Hey @joshbabbit thanks for that! That’s a “faded” SG before they were called faded, maybe 04-05…
@Stereo Intellect ahhh ok! I thought I heard you mention something like that on the JRT 9/15 video. Appreciate it much man, I remember these exactly now!
His scream sounds like Jack Black, i love it!
Yes! Sounds great
Thanks Tim!!!
Have to you combined 2 1x12 cabs with one open and one closed, I may try that?
@slope I’ve used open and closed at gigs before, it’s awesome, just a lot to bring :)
The KM184 sounds amazing! What mic pre and interface did you use?
Hey Steve the Beat :) totally sorry I spaced on responding… the mics all went thru undertone audio MPDI-4 mic pre, and apogee symphony mk2 thunderbolt interface. 🤗
@@stereointellect ahh yes, the apogee is top notch! I gotta check out those preamps
I have a Orange crush 12 an it was to brightness so I opened the back an sounds so mush better. An now I’ve decided to only use open back cabs for that bottom end bass sound. Awesome video.
@chriscrooks86 right on, thanks!! I’ve been Rockin open back myself more lately
Hey, if we don’t know what it is, should we go look it up? Amazing.
Man. Gain up at 2:00, boosted, with the 4x12 and 6v6 is AC/DC right there. Nice!!
Great job again. That sounds so good! Question: Did you have the pull-boost engaged on the Volume control or no? I have a CJ11 and I generally prefer the sound with the boost engaged - even for the clean tones - as I just find it sounds more present and detailed and I like the increased sensitivity....and the extra gain can be nice as well.
I’ll have to go back and watch it all , pretty sure I at least used it when showing how far thee overdrive can go… I also use to run the volume (gain) lower and pull the knob. These days I find myself running a bit cleaner and smoother, then just boosting into those higher drive situations:)
Well done sir. Great demo and some really pretty playing as well. Excellent work!!
Hey thanks @feedback bro 🤗
How do you like the UTA mdp4? Do you use ALL 4 CHANNELS at one time? What is guitar chain with cabinet?
Hey @darrel weller!!! I love these preamps so much, they’re “desert island for me.” I’ve had BAE 1073 500 series as well, I loved those also, they were a tad softer in my memory. But these UTA are thee most flexible of anything I’ve ever seen. I even tried to push them as far as they can go just last week with kick/snr/overhead/bass, and the saturation I got was unbelievably musical. Eric Valentine (UTA Owner) does an awesome video on the UTA website running thru every option with audio examples, I couldn’t recommend it enough.. as far as guitar chain, I usually do a 57 and 421, or 57 with R84, and just hit the channel nominally (maybe -14 peaks in pro tools or logic). But now I wanna push them to just before clipping in the DAW as they just sound so good pushing hard.. very rarely do I need all 4 channels at once. Only when I take them to track drums etc:)
Great comparison at the end of the video. I think I'm going to get the BTR because in my opinion it is more versatile with the master volume and it has more gain on tap if you need it.
Thanks Glen! A solid Amen to that 🤗
Real cab and Ox sounds completely different. You decide which is better (I know what I think/believe) but they sound like 2 different guitars are being played different.
I’d say “diff guitars” is a stretch… diff tools for diff times to me … but hey, we all hear different 🤗
What were your ox settings at 4:00? That sound really good!!
@paul trentadue thanks!! The cabinet is 4x12 THICK, with 57 on the left, and 421 on the right. I’ll plug in the ox tomorrow and get the verb and delay settings… I sometimes change the delay but not much, usually just the wet/dry. And same with the verb. If I do change verb time it’ll be 1 second, or the max reverb time, then just the wet/dry balance…
I picked up the two channel RSA23 in attempt to get some Hiwatt sounds at a slightly lower volume, but also have some Marshall/Vox break up as well. Seems to be doing the trick. Running it through a Hiwatt Cab with Fane Speakers is key though
