Kawasaki has been dropping the rev limit of these bikes over the years. Early ones the cut comes in about 15500, then the later zzrs are dropped to 14500 and then again to I think it's 14000. That might be why. I have a 92 and it's got the higher rev cut
40hp. Pretty good for the bike requirements (couldnt sell higher hp bikes under that classification) plus even with a full tank of gas it's only about 160kg
I have a zzr250 and I take care of it. ok 10,000rpm to most bikers be stunned,it's no probem,it's cruising on the hi way. Look after it, I had bigger bikes, but I admit, not keep them going sadly. As an old man I still like to ride the little 250,it keeps me going feeling youngish.
Im not sure about the speedo on the bike shown. Little old ladies in old cars are slowing down with their brake lights on. The bike only just goes faster not by much as indicated.
The rpm in top gear are 12kph/1000rpm. You can change by putting a smaller front cog or larger back cog,I think it's a high revver, maybe a bigger front cog is better,it's got the power. Then it will rev lower at the same speed. Gaz. (Self proclaimed expert).
I bought a ZZR250 in April 2013. I took it for its MOT and it passed with no advisories. Not bad for a machine built in 1991. I had a ZZR250 in 2000 for nearly two years and in all the time I had it, I never had to spend much to keep it on the road. The ZZR250s are good reliable and economical bikes that are fun to ride. I would recommend one to anyone. Down side, my one puffs a bit of smoke when I start it up and rev it to the red line.
yes..Im using almost 3 liter or less ( not really sure, I always top up the fuel) Ron 97 fuel for 112 km ride everyday, from my home to work place and back home, which cost me nearly about USD 3.29 per day (1 liter/ RM2.90 or 1 liter/USD0.95 RON97 price). Cruising 80kph to 100kph and still, the tank never get half full. The reason I always top up the fuel is, ZZR doesn't equipped with fuel indicator but that not bothering at all..still riding this bike for daily routine
Couldn't agree more. The ZZR250 is the best 250 ever made. I had one in 200 and then sold it late 2001 and it is still going. I've recently bought another ZZR250. The engines are bullet proof providing you carry out regular ol changes otherwise top end will wear. The ninja250r has the same engine but with the addition of fuel injection.
160kph at 9500rpm.. that impressive. The reason i change the gear due to daily routine. I riding about 118km per day and riding below 110kph, due to highway speed limit. One thing that very sure is, the engine is a bulletproof as some people saying. I brought mine in 1997 and still on the road today. I guess, maybe that is the reason Kawasaki still using the same engine patent with their new Ninja 250r
Interesting, I think my bike must have been altered. It was not an import yet the speedo went to 220. At 9500RPM I sit on 160kph. Therefore I suspect the final gear on the rear must have been changed. It had 42.000 on it when I bought it.
Honda CBF250 is slow. ZZR250 looks great, rides great and is super cool. I had one in 2000 and it was a great bike, one of the best I ever owned. The ZZR was reliable, comfortable and with adequate performance. It is still registered to this day so can't be bad. I do miss it, but now I have a 500 and to get the same performance as the ZZR, only have to use a fraction of the revs and doesn't sound harsh at motorway speeds and doesn't cost much more to run.
@Trafalgar76 = read some webs.... is a legendary 4 stroke... and btw... the Suzuki RGV is a 250 2 strokes and makes almost 200kph.... really you need to learn before talk...
minesa zzr250 1994 with 180 on the clock and i have had it sitting on 180 for awhile...crashed months ago at 30 km's :( i didn't feel very cool after that lol
i danno i own the same bike and yeah the bike growls and than screams i like the growl better but dosn't go very fast while growling because it's like 5-8 thousand revs which is not much for this bike
Motor duruyorsa ulaş bana 😅

That is why engine parts is easy to find.

I miss my ZZR.
bursa nın neresindesin dostum? makina kaç model?
my max speed was 170 km/h, i bet it can go faster than that but i don't feel like making the bike scream too much :)
I want to buy one, how fast it can go? [km/h]
I am a V4 fan but this twin sound is amazing. Nice video!
@ColdHeat16 Bloody hell, a 100 pound man. He must seriously be anorexic.
@franknostradamus Got a ZZR250 myself, just noticing yours doesnt sound too good at low revs...

Hey man,... it's fast enough for a 250cc 2-stroke engine, it has got nerve and sounds good :-)

180km but car speedometer show 162km ..
solid top speed for a 250cc four stroke
