Yeah, either upkeep or end step during their turn would have been better then when I started responding. That's the problem with taking the long game dance against blue flash decks, pick the wrong time and you can easily die.

I can see wanting more creatures. As far as shock, I think skullcrack would be a better choice if you just want a one for one replacement.

It would be an interesting thought exercise. Would probably slow the deck down a bit in the linear matchups, but the sheer amount of removal could make it worth taking a look.

Seems narrow, difficult to connect with and there are probably better options against the go wide, removal heavy deck but we could try it for science.

Not yet, we might try it, but I do not expect it to be playable.

After the initial few turns against blue decks that is certainly a play pattern you can opt for. Its either that or play draw go and try to kill them all in one turn cycle.

Tamiyo was certainly drawing them a lot of cards, but the possibility that they had a second or possible third Tamiyo made that line less appealing.

In short, was playing to let them discard to hand size and not play into their counters until one turn cycle. I started responding in response to their bolt on my end step and instead should have started the sequence during their end step or in response to them trying to kill with Hall.

Perhaps, the issue was more not counting for Hall on board and that i should have killed snappy with that last burn spell in that cycle.

Interesting thoughts. Start with the first comment why side out Goblin Guide against Tron? Searing Blaze can certainly be an awkard hit, but as can eidolon in a lot of circumstances. Play with Fire is certainly not ideal, but it served two roles in this build. Allowed us to lower the curve, and probably has the highest consistency/upside of remaining one mana spells. Burn has long suffered from being too clunky in a lot of draw glutted with two drops and or awkard 3's.

@@mtgnexusred The last thing you want to give to a tron player is lands. Helix helps keeping you alive, despite of eidolon, vortex, and some lands.

I do believe thought seize was a known card not from hand, but what was exiled from the pitched Grief mid game. There have been a few comments about the lines being bad in that game 1 so I will see if I can walk through a replay of that first game and explain my thoughts a bit more in depth. It was certainly a sloppy mess of a game.

Im just glad you won the game. I think the eidolon was left on your field a bit too long. There could have been a turn where you traded it in for bowmaster and drew a card to try a top deck a win. But was a weird game super abnormal play pattern not just your part.

That is card worth looking at, I will certainly try to work it into the testing schedule in the next few weeks. Thank you for the suggestion.

In short game 1 was rough to bad. I have taken a look a few times at that game and if i can I am going to try to do a replay of it to breakdown my thoughts each turn cycle a bit better.

I think there have been a few lists that have tried, but most have settled on either traditional eidolon builds, shifted to the Boros Prowess or have Phlage in the mix .

Raptor is a bit of roulette, but I think it combined with Arena of Glory could be a pretty reasonable route to go.

In short burn has not been great in a while. At FNMs and leagues it can be fine, and when the format is shaking up it is usually good for a bit. That said, the prowess-burn hybrid has had some success before MH3 and amped raptor and phlage both have potential in burn variants.

In short, I couldn't kill the frog regardless. Much like against infect or hammer the best bet is to not engage in combat and either try to do it main phase or on their end step. This means if they take the first step to pitch cards, we do have a chance to blow them out. The hope was to get them to pitch most of if not all of their hand and use sanctifier as a roadblock. It wasn't a guaranteed as I do believe they showed us marauder game 1 as well, but it was probably the highest upside line we had with that hand.

In short, I don't know in the current meta. I do not have enough testing against the new decks yet. Overall, I still like traditional burn a bit more, but the prowess variant does have a bit more explosiveness in goldfish matchups.

amped raptor yes that should possibly be coming as soon as next week. flare, no the card is a trap and does not belong in burn. plage will depend on when the price comes down, its almost as expensive for one plage at the moment as it is for an entire burn deck on mtgo.

the hand was not good, but a lot of burn hands can be traps against the 4x challice, 4x trinisphere main deck. i just wanted board presence and at least 3 lands to cast all my spells. that hand was terrible but most burn standards but didnt fold to chalice on 1 and had the other qualities i just mentioned.

To a point, I don't think the meta is anywhere near settled yet so hard to tell where burn will ultimately settle.

My only question with bird wasn't if it was good enough for modern, but if the deck with it is technically burn anymore.
