That resistance between channels in the cartridge that you measure (1k) are always in those value? For example, in other cartridges it must be the same? And if there is no resistance it means that the channel is dead?
I don’t think the value needs to be exactly 1k each channel for the cartridge, as long as they are equal. You are correct, when no resistance then there are breakage in the coil and channel is dead.
Hi, thanks for the video. I have similar receiver - TX-SR608 with th same fault. I have done what you did - removed the pre-amp board and the unit starts. I checked all of the 7 preamp boards for faulty transistors but did not find one. SO I went eliminating bu removing the connectors on the preamp boards hoping I would find one that triggers the protection. I went removing the connectors but the fault was alwyas present. Got dowen to last board, still error, then | swapped that board for different one, but the error is still there. So I assume it is not an issue with individual boards but with something they all have in common. But power supply should be good, if it does not cause issue without the boards on (they use the same +/- 54 V as the power transitros, no other power supply involved). Any ideas where to look next? Thanks
As you tell it starts when you disconnect the preamp. Was the error there for every connector for the preamp? If that case I start to wonder if it is the power supply to the preamp or the signal through the preamp. Happy hunting
100% efficient
It could be cracked solder under the same transistor if you switch off it will become cold and solder will be dissonnected and same hissing or scratching sound will come back but if you keep it on for a while it will become hot and solder will start passing current and you will get proper sound all you have to do resolder the transistor

Thank you for your comment and your question. As for this extension module, I really don’t know why you don’t have on your model. What I can think is that Tektronix made one model with and one without this module because of price and different needs.

Happy hunting! Håper du finner ut av det.
@@anatticinnorway2883 tusen takk!
Agreed, until recently I hadn't realized that Mario updated his favorite way to tackle ED and it's a relief! Although what he previously suggested was pretty good, it was a real pain to follow... I just go'ogled the latest in Mario's Thunderous Erections and it's so much simpler and potent now!
Hei! Inspirerende film og masse gode tips her. Min SS11 har en litt plagsom egenlyd som ikke er fra høyttalerne. Det er snakk om en konstant brumming. Har du noe tips til hva dette kan være? Jeg har loddet om til 240V uten at jeg syns det hjalp.
Hei. Tusen takk for kommentaren.
Awesome video. I come across Onkyo components all the time at thrift stores and Goodwills. I will definitely try this!
Hallo! Nice video! Maybye You know how strong FM signal needs Radionette SM40? We still have in Poland FM transmission, but on my inner room antenna the signal level indicator remains in the minimum position all the time and the STEREO indicator does not light up. All stations play nicely, but only in MONO:( Thks a lot for any info!
Hello. Thank you very much for your comment and your question. To get a good stereo signal for your radio it is needed 50 to 60 dB micro volts. I assume you have that signal strength where you live. But as for old FM receivers, they need a service now and then. Some filter replacements and a little adjustment and I’m certain that radio will work as a charm again.
Can you tell why Huldra 10 or Sølvsuper 12 make noice or why its not give high good sound? its possible easy or hard way to upgrade to dab+?
Hello and thank you for your questions. I will first answer if there is an easy way to upgrade to DAB+ for Huldra and Sølvsuper. Well.. kinda yes, and kinda no. The alternative is to get a DAB+ you can connect to a Tape input. In regards to why Huldra 10 and Sølvsuper 12 makes noice or why not giving high good sound is mainly because lack of service. A good clean of potentiometers and switches will remove lots of noice. If still noicy I would check if there were oscillating transistors. One reason there are no high good sound, can be the capasitors at the output for the power amplifier. A replacement of these and a general adjustment will probably bring back the good Tandberg sound. Happy hunting.
My Tandberg TR 220 G: Q802, 803, runs hot (63 degrees) cr804 looks black. From time to time, a muffled rumble can be heard from the right channel. Otherwise the radio "works". What will be replaced from Tandberg next.
Hello. First I need to tell sorry for late reply. Thank you for your question. I will try my best to give an answer only by looking at the service manual. Q802 and Q803 is in connection to Q801 as a voltage regulator. If they runs hot, it is because of too high load and too high current flowing through them. As you tell CR804 looks black. That is a Zener Diode for 12V. If I were you, I would take a look in the service manual and check voltages around the voltage regulator. As for the muffled rumble in your right channel, I would check the transistors for the input of the power amplifier (Q704 and Q706) and also check the quiescent current. Happy hunting.
In the drawn pictures of the transistors, you have the oppositely marked PN terminals of the transistor. An NPN transistor (in order = k, b, e) is to be denoted by the transition N (k) P (b) N (e). The PNP transistor has it exactly the other way around, i.e. in the order k-b-e it is a PNP.
You are correct. And I did correct that just a little later in the video.
I have the same motherboard but when I put m.2 on (m.2_1) the BIOS does not recognize it. Help😔

Thanks for this video. Hopefully you can provide a suggestion for me. I've had two Onkyos receivers (HT-S3500, HT-S3910). One lasted 4 years and the other one less than 2. One turned on, but didn't give audio. The other one didn't turn on at all. Then I bought a Pioneer receiver (VSX-534) and it didn't even last a year before it shut down and never turned on back again. The reason why I bought Onkyo and Pioneer, is because the remote controller has an option to increase the volume of the voices in movie. That's a super useful option and I haven't seen that option in the controller from other receivers. Maybe other brands do have that option, but I haven't seen it by looking at screenshots. So my question to you is, which receiver should I buy that won't die so easily? What brand manufactures good receivers at an affordable price? Something that's under $400, if possible. Thanks.
Thank you for your comment and question. I’ve been thinking. If your receivers die this fast, then there is possible something wrong in your speaker setup. I will advise you to check your speaker impedance in regard to recommendations for the receiver. Because no receiver is to did this fast.
@@anatticinnorway2883 Thanks for the reply. I'm not very knowledgeable about these things. By impedance you're mean that the speakers might be too "powerful" for the receiver? With the 3rd receiver (the Pioneer one), the speakers I was using belong to the 2nd Onkyo. I did buy a powered subwoofer because the pioneer receiver didn't have the "home theater in a box" capabilities of the onkyos. Other than that, I don't know how to check the impedance or how everything is supposed to be compatible with each other. Do you have a video about how to properly select speakers and subwoofer for a standalone receiver?
You sir have helped me fix my amp, mine is not quite 100% but much more stable now. Thanks so kuch

Hello. Thank you for your comment. As for this fix, I used 10 pieces of axial bulbs and some time. Kinda quick fix.
Thanks for the video, as a broadcast engineer, I've been doing this for years. The only difference is using your finger to evenly apply the glue.
Awesome repair! I have my Tandberg in the repair shop now. First time I plugged it in about 30 seconds bit of a hum another 30 seconds or so later a loud pop and blueish smoke pouring out the top vent! I had a look inside and can not see any damage to the components except for a slightly charred capacitor on the transformer. Looks like a aluminium foil is wrapped round it so I don't know what type it is either. I have limited knowledge on amplifiers :) anyway the repair shop says they fixed the amplifier but the tuner, which I know didn't work anyway when I got it needed some gear mechanism changing as it had broken! I am so looking forward to getting it back, I just hope the repair shop is as good as you :) I'll give you an update when I get it back and let you know what needed doing because the smoke tells me it probably needed at least those 2 big capacitors you replaced in your receiver and maybe a few other components.
Thank you for your comment and compliment. My biggest fear is to hear the pop and see the greyblue smoke when powering up an amplifier. It happens sometimes that this big hum appears when power up an amplifier I just got on my table, but then I power off at once and start searching for errors. I wish you luck regarding your amplifier and hopefully not too many components need to be replaced. And yes please, keep me updated about your Tandberg. Always fun to know.
@@anatticinnorway2883 Well a bit of an update, the amp is now working so I expect it was the big capacitors not sure yet but the main problem now is apparently there is a gearbox on the tuner which is broken and is going to cost £200 to repair! I told them to carry on with the repair and am now waiting for it to be finished 🤩 When I get it back, probably next week I will give you a full run down of what work was actually carried out.
How great your amp is working again. £200 for the repair of the gear of the tuner? Wow! I’m not charging enough for the repairs I do 😂. May I ask what Tandberg you have? And if it is the tuner for FM or AM? Yes please keep me updated. This is cool to follow.
@@anatticinnorway2883 It's the TR 2060 L and is a tuner and amplifier combined, this one has FM MW and LW. I thought £200 was a good price after researching the insides of it. Seems there is a mechanical gear box on the tuner which turn pots, sounds very complicated to me :) and the volume control is massive!!! ? You people are like gold though! Not even sure if young folk these days know how to fix these amazing machines with all the throw away rubbish they make now. I am so interested in electronics but can only follow it so far, I only recently found out bumble bee capacitors are actually capacitors and would really like to know how you can tell the difference between a bumble bee capacitor and a resistor as they look the same to me and I have tried googling it too! : Might be a very interesting video you could put that in maybe :)
Thank you very much for these kind words. I do this as a hobby and to kinda show it’s possible to bring back old Hifi to life. In regards to your gear for the tuner, it’s not necessarily wrong price. It’s a big job. For your radio both AM and FM is at same axis and the problem is usually for the AM adjustable capacitor. You need to bring it all out of the casing, clean it and lubricate it, and at the same time make sure the display wires will not get out of order. It’s only me be to kind after fixing these gears. When in comes to these bumblebee capacitors. They are called that because of the colour stripes, just like a bumblebee. And I agree is difficult to see the difference from those and a resistor. But when already mounted at the PCB you easily see the difference. The capacitor is marked C and the number, while resistors is marked R and the number
Hi...What would you say the biggest/most common problem regarding powering up? As mine will not power up at all, Transformer maybe? Beogram 6002...
Hello. Thank you for your comment and question. I can’t say what is the most common for this turntable not to start. I find it strange if the transformer stop working. I would check any fuses and the system controlling the touch switches.

Hi, interesting work. What kind of oil did you use to lubricate the spindle platter axis? A Thorens special oil? A generic oil? A sewing machine oil? Regards...
Hello. Thank you for your comment. For the spindle platter axis I am using a pressure air tool oil from Pressol. Regards

Hello! I have an Onkyo that just has the standby light illuminated, but it will not power on. Any ideas what the issue could be?
Hello. Thank you for your comment. It is hard to tell, as long as I don’t have the amplifier on my workbench. But I should start checking the fuses and the relays. After I would check if any issues in the amplifiers.
I'm using a Sony receiver STR DH190 myself at the moment and the volume control "feels" like it is fixed on with a rubber tube! I hate the feeling of it even though it works as it should except sometimes one of the channels drops off through the headphones but will come back if the volume is turned up and stay that way loud or quiet that day I'm using it. Next day might be fine. Also it's not possible to use the record player through the equaliser because the phono and tape inputs are only accessible one at a time, meaning I have 6 inputs but only one input at a time so I can't used the tape out to go to equaliser because the equaliser would need a phono amp! Therefore if I listen to records I have to have it direct to the amplifier without any equalisation, So I've just bought a Tandberg TR-2060 which does :)
Thank you for your comment. Sounds like a good decision, to replace the Sony for a Tandberg 😎
WOW! Another beautiful fix. How mad that the plugs didn't fit both sets of terminals weird or what. I actually have a NAD amp but I know one of the issues is the 2 large capacitors have blown so no output at all, just hoping replacing them will fix it although both caps are blown there could be other issues so I'm going to get a plane ticket to Norway to get you to fix it :)
Thank you for your comments and the compliment. Yes it was kinda weird that the terminals did not match. In regards to these two big capacitors, it’s most likely it is the filter capacitors on the power supply. They usually don’t blow, unless something very wrong going on. So first I would do is to check the rectifier and output voltage on transformer. You are very welcome to take a trip to Norway though 😎
