Wrong 3/4" Master cylinder incorrect stroke and cubic cm. Jaguar XK8 manual conversion MT10 XKR X100
If you are looking for a master cylinder for your manual conversion double check the cylinder stroke. Not all Wildwood 3/4 inch or 19.08 diameter cylinders have the same travel or stroke. This results in quite different maximum fluid displacement. This has been an annoying issue we found during our Jaguar XK8 manual conversion.

    Damian thank you for taking the time to answer and for your videos. We were already talking about bore wear and loss of power on my 2001 Jaguar VDP. I do not have the Aj26 I have the AJ27. So would bore wear still factor in to this? I will try to change the fuel filter and then run injector cleaner. It does sound the bore wear (the noise) when I compare it in a youtube video. I was told I would have to replace the block if thats the case.

    Hi, the new tensioner's thread length seems to be longer than the original. Did you face any issues installing the new tensioner? I'm changing the timing chains of an N47N and the new vs old tensioners seems to be the same as in the above video, but I'm unable to thread in the new tensioner all the way into the head by hand. The old one goes in just fine?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol День назад

      John, on my car the new tensioner fitted OK. There was extra thread in the housing for the longer length of thread on the new tensioner. However, the extra thread portion was more difficult for the new tensioner to engage as it was full of old oil residue. Some people have advise using a tap to clear the thread before fitting the new tensioner. Hope that helps, regards Damian

    The Stratstone edition should be the last 30 XKR ever made... (i always wondered these 30 ones were actually the last ones actually made) do you tried to check the VIN number to confirm that?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol День назад

      Carmine, you are probably right these aren't physically the last 30 cars made. The final X100 built wasn't a Stratstone and is owned by Jaguar Heritage. UK Reg Mark: XK05JAG, Chassis Number: SAJAC41R363A48684. Link at the bottom for more details. The Stratstone cars are more likely to be part of last batch of cars which remained unsold. Sorry, I don't know the VIN numbers of all the 30 cars. Jaguar Heritage can verify if you car is a Stratstone for a fee. • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol 7 дней назад

      @dumbdemolition1012, nothing is impossible but I would consider access and safety. You need quite a lot of clearance to slide the transmission in and out from under the car. Also need to get enough access under the car to reach all the bolts etc. This means very high jack stands or jacking the car up locally. It can be done but need to very careful you don't get caught under the car. Hope that helps, regards Damian

    Great video and very well explained, thank you very much. I tried your method today with a good charger ("DINO Kraftpaket"). The main LED was green but other than when charging a battery directly (I.e. when the charger is connected to the battery poles), the LEDs for the various steps of the charging process (8 in total) did not light up. (Neither did the red "error LED" which would e.g. indicate if battery voltage had fallen below 2.5 Volt). Trying to see this in your video in the two sequences when the CTEK charger is shown, I think I also only saw one green light there as well. Am I maybe right in assuming that the "usual" LED lighting sequence on the charger does not work in this case? Maybe because the charger is not directly connected to the battery? Thank you very much in advance for an indication here. Best regards, Rembert

The only openly available information about number is that there where approximately 3,395 Final Edition made vin A45289 to A48684. See vin number guide (link at bottom). There was quite a lot of options for these final editions, including body, engines, interior and exterior colours. So there is a lot of potential for unique specification cars. Exterior black is quite a popular colour but not sure about triple black. They only way of know for sure is to ask Jaguar Heritage how hold the build records but they will charge for the information. Had another question. My 2001 Vanden Plas X308 was retimed with a kit by a work at home mechanic. I have no idea how these are to be timed. It was misfiring on one entire side cylinders 1-4 before it was redone with a new timing kit. I'm wondering it the chains were put on incorrectly because it seems to have lost some compression and power although the misfires have mostly gone and not no misfire codes. I can still feel a slight misfire around 50-60 MPH. I replaced the plugs and the coils. But still same thing. How can you know for sure if the timing is off?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol День назад

      @tainchains, the cams and crank are both locked in position when you fit the new chains. Its unlikely to have been fitted incorrectly. Might be something else. Compression loss could be due to bore wear of the nikasil coating (if yours is the early engine AJ26). sorry you don't seem to be having any joy with your engine, regards Damian

    • @tainchains
      @tainchains День назад

      Thanks so much for taking the time to reply Damian. I think that you might be right about the bore wear. I hope that you are not. The guy who did the timing said it could be the fuel filter is clogged, and needs to be replaced. But the noise sounds similar to bore wear noise whe I check yourube videos on it. Wild a compression test help me determine if its bore wear or not?

Thanks for all of your videos, they have helped me really get stuck in with restoring my 2001 XK8! Cheers, Tim

    I think that’ll be helpful if I can utilise the aluminium part of the lath. Mine is an ols door and it doesn’t have the part either side of the lath where the brass rods fit, is that normal? My bugger made an almighty crash and all 4 laths broke.☹

      @alamosabill201, Sorry to here about your door problems. The bits where the brass rod fits is pretty important for the attachment of the roller to the laths. Assume they have broken and disappeared somewhere? regards Damian

    If I change the cam cover bolts, what about the bolts that are near the timing sensors?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol 24 дня назад

      Rick, stainless steel isn’t magnetic so doesn’t interfere with the cam sensors in the same way the steel bolts do. Just need to ensure they aren’t too long and foil the sensor. Hope that helps.regards Damian

    Apologoes for asking for online diagnosis. My X308 was misfiring on cylinders 1-4. Most notably at 50 mph with a sometimes rough idle. It was retimed with a kit. The guy said it had jumped a little. I can still feel a small shudder at 50 mph. Its not nearly as bad. Its very light. I plan to replace the plugs and coils. Any thoughts on the problem being way better but still lightly shuddering at 50 mph?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol 24 дня назад

      @tainchains, sorry difficult to diagnose but doesn't sound like anything timing related. More likely to be ignition related plugs, coils or ECU. Have you tried swopping the coil packs over and see it the issue moves to the other cylinders? regards Damian

    I'm assuming that you'd use this method when the standard reset solution doesn't work; i.e. using the electric windows switch.

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol 24 дня назад

      @711honved, correct this is only for adjusting the window to seal gap and not the window closer travel, regards Damian

    Hi Damian. I’m going to add a usb socket like yours on my car. Is the red wire now redundant and did you have to split the original wires apart. Steve 👍

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol 24 дня назад

      Steven, The red wire is for the interior light inside the cigar lighter. It was redundant for my installation but could be used to add illumination to the remaining ash tray. Sorry cannot fully remember splitting the wires apart but I did have to remove some of the harness protection to allow access. Hope that helps and good luck with the upgrade, regards Damian

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol 24 дня назад

      @tainchains, doing the timing gear is a very good idea for this age of car but doubt it has anything directly to do with misfiring cylinders. Plugs, coil packs and ECU would be the first items to check in that order. Should be able to spot a faulty plug/coil pack by moving them to another cylinder and seeing if the fault moves with them. Good luck with your repairs, regards Damian

    Is it neccesary to replace the harmonic balancer bolt during this repair. I have heard that it is. The problem is we do not have a replacement and I'm not sure how long it will be to get one.

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol 29 дней назад

      @tainchains, It is good practice to renew the bolt as due to the large amount of torque required the threads could be stretched or weakened. That said if it has stretched the threads it will be quite clear and you won't be able to use. It is a large bolt and if it hasn't stretched you should be able to feel for this when reusing it. Not recommended but you might get away with it in the short term. Hope that helps, regards Damian

    You should return it, as it was not as advertised. Your modification is an afterthought that is their fault for selling incorrectly spec’s parts. Besides, from a DIY point of view, it’s the re-work that is SO FRUSTRATING! They should pay us double our money when they send the wrong part. Especially after all the engineering you’ve done to choose the correct components, AND the assurances that you have received from your parts suppliers/manufacturers.

    • @ODRModurol

      Tom, good advice and yes it is very frustrating. Especially, when I purchased from someone I though knew what they where selling. Lesson learnt never take anything at face valve which make me a bit nervous about the other components. Going to get there but might be a few more of these problems along the way.
