This is so much BS. As far as Nixon and Vietnam goes. It is a simple judgement. When the US was supposedly murdering, raping, bombing and committing genocide according to you. No one fled Vietnam or the rest of Southeast Asia. Once the US left and the peace of the Vietnamese Communist Party took over. Millions of South Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Laotians fled Southeast Asia trying to get to a free country. I remember the Vietnamese boat people and the Cambodians and Laotians that came to the US. I graduated high school in 1975 and I met and worked with these people. It has been almost 50 years and Southeast Asia is still being held back by a corrupt Vietnamese Communist Party, which acts toward Cambodia and Laos in the same way the USSR acted toward Soviet-block of Eastern Europe. They act as overloads. The Vietnamese Communist Party may have become more of a market base economy, but it is no freer today than China is today. They are the tyrants. Nixon inherited a screwed up mess from JFK and LBJ. The myth that JFK was going to leave Southeast Asia and South Vietnam to the Communist is just that a myth, just like the conspiracy theory being peddled by Oliver Stone in the movie JFK. As far as the Muslims and Jews fighting over the holy land. So what they have been fight over that piece of rock back when my ancestors were fighting Romans in the British Isles. They will probably still be fighting over it a thousand years from now.

You know it’s weird that I thought this had more to do with Putin dictatorship style and Russia, war in Ukraine, and Donald Trump’s style of dictatorship. Perhaps George Lucas was talking about all these conflicts, including the Cold War? As far as Trump goes, he very much is a Nixon clone… His phrase “Make America Great Again” is literally paraphrasing something Nixon said. Just so everyone understands what is happening in the Gaza Strip is horrible AND what is happening in the Ukraine is horrible AND what is now happening in the United States of America is horrible. What is happening in the world is truly horrible. There are at least 2 major genocides happening in 2 different parts of the world at the same exact time. It just so happens that this time around multiple dictators are at odds with each other. I hope this isn’t some bizarre form of population control. I was born in 2005 during the war on terror several month after Revenge of the Sith came out. When I had the dvd copies of the prequels, I skipped all of the so called "boring talking parts" to see space wizards fight each other with laser swords and epic intense space battles. Now I am 19 years old and I find the most captivating parts of any part of the franchise is the politics . Republic, Empire, Rebellion, Separatist, they speak to us who grew up with those movies in a way that we can now see how the world is and the kind of government we lived under. Lucas never warned us about what was going to happen, he was spelling out what was always happening. Now as we grow older we begin to take the subtext and apply it to our world. The prequels may not be perfect, but they do get you to think.

One of the problems I have with Return of the Jedi is that if you're going to draw parallels between the Ewoks and the Veit Cong, you don't really get the sense that the Empire was giving the Ewoks much of a reason to fight them. The Empire wasn't cutting down trees or destroying any of their natural habitat beyond the space they needed to build the shield bunker. They weren't enslaving Ewoks or hunting them before the Rebels came along. By and large, the Empire was being very respectful towards the Ewoks and the land by leaving them alone. So what stakes did the Ewoks have in this war exactly? C3PO tells them a story and now they're willing to risk their lives and fight the Empire who hasn't really done anything to them? Just comes across as hollow motivation for getting involved in the Rebellion.

This hits particularly close to home right now. Trump did all the same stuff as Palpatine: controlled the media narrative through bombastic actions and words and threats to media outlets that asked him tough questions or reported on him in a way he didn’t like. Manipulated the elections by enlisting a foreign power, instigating a whole political movement to distrust and undermine the process, and then of course there was The Big Lie. He ran his campaign against what he called chaos on the border and hate against downtrodden people, and when Congress had written a bill to address the border issues, he told them to quash it, so he could continue to run on the inaction on the border. He enlisted the help of industry, including meeting with a room full of fossil fuel executives who he told that if they raised a ton of money for him then he would help their industry. He cowed and bullied, and instigated primary election candidates again anyone in his party who dared to not do his bidding. He even stacked the highest courts full of corrupt loyalists who have overturned decades of precedent in order to allow him to get away with crimes, for which he has not even attempted a defense.
