Did this match change AEW forever?
This is our review of AEW Wrestle Dream 2024 featuring a shocking ending to the main event between AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson and challenger Jon Moxley. In addition, The Young Bucks defended the AEW tag titles against Private Party, Mark Briscoe fought to defend the ROH title and for honor and the memory of his late brother against Chris Jericho, Jay White battled "Hangman" Adam Page, Darby Allin and Brody King hav...

    The only way a takeover story will work is if Tony Khan and The Elite are written off tv by falling to the BCC. Tony never wants to be an on screen character so its hard to sell a takeover point if hes not involved or if hes just there all the time despite not being a part of it.

    I didn't get the sense that Brody is leaving. Just that he and the House of Black in general have been much more tweener and they've cut down a lot of the spooky crap in favor just kicking people's asses. I really liked the show but I felt the Swerve segment felt like a TV segment, not something you should be doing on a PPV. I know they wanted Swerve to have a moment in front of his home town but.... The ending of the main event didn't work for me because of how abrupt it was. My wife was asking me a question, so we were just chatting about that, Moxley has Danielson in a submission, the ref briefly checks Danielson and then he calls the bell but his body language was just weird and the whole thing was done so quickly. I felt almost like they were running a heel ref angle by indicating that Remsberg screwed Danielson over before they went to the post-match angle. I am curious how the angle continues with the avengers of Danielson against BCC.

    Nice to see you back. Jay and Hangman was a good opening match.. im glad that they are pushing Jay cos hes a fantastic talent. The Triple threat for the the International title was MOTN. Private Party have done nothing for 5 years. They just stayed the same unfortunately. The tag division is lacking right now and they need to build a new team up. The main event was alright but the ending was terrible imo. Overall The first three matches were good and the middle part was meh and then the crowd was worn out and took away from the main event.

    The end of the Bryan Danielson era . He'll have more matches,. but they will be few and far between! And WrestleDream had 8K fans? Hmmm.. isn't that the same as last Friday's Smackdown? Just saying. The Young Bucks are headed to NJPW's Wrestle Dynasty on January 25th. I hope Okada and Jack Perry get more TV time, as well as Takeshita - who can speak English quite fluently as displayed in the scrum. He needs to be allowed to do his own promos. And I am ALL IN for Swerve vs MVP's Hurt Syndicate.

  • @BigmanDogs

    I really liked the final angle. Though I feel like AEW consistently does struggle with making these moments feel as grand as they should be. I think the reception online would have been better if their camera work and in ring positioning for these segments was on point. For example, Darby sitting in the corner and Mox putting the belt in the bag. However, there is also a threshold for this, you don't want it to look overproduced either. Also, as JR said... More people should come out, not just the people who will feud with them. That's one issue I have had with this storyline. Basically nobody on the roster is expressing any semblance of curiority or interest over this Moxley takover mystery. I also think the actual finish to the match didn't really work, because you could tell that the crowd consistently didn't react to any choking spot throughout the match, so maybe they should have changed it on the fly and had Mox death ride him on his damaged neck for the win.

    well.. 2 cold Scorpio kinda was before everybody, but Sheldon broke the glass more. But really it was 2 cold. The ending to the PPV made up for the ending to the match, really. I just hope DB is not on RAW in January lol That would make this look weak. But for now.. I mean really BCC is all time evil level villains. It is creepy how all those guys from the 2010s are now like 40-50 years old.

Why would you want that WWE stank on the product, obviously Raw underground was amazing but when have you ever seen Shane McMahon and thought “Their is a charismatic leader of men, who could get bad asses like Mox to do his bidding”. Shane McMahon has literally nothing to offer AEW or the wrestling industry in general.

    Definitely not my favourite PPV of the year, it's hard to watch guys like Danielson go away, now for the 2nd time. I am intrigued with what's going on with the BCC higher power angle. Jerry Lynn promo definitely sets up Orange Cassidy on collision course with Moxley, and no offense to Darby, but I wanna see this match more. Remember the great match they had last year at All Out? Also what do they do with Hangman and Jay White after that? Is Adam Cole gonna be involved in the main event storyline as well, sonce he also ran at the end to check on Danielson? Is Takeshita still going to fight Okada 1 on 1 at the C2, or are they holding this match off? Lots of questions and this is a good aspect, it keeps me intrigued.

    POINT #2: You made a very interesting analogy comparing WWE to Star Wars and AEW to Star Trek. Remember what I said about how both AEW and WWE have Hollywood writing their stories for them? Well as we all know Hollywood has become corrupt so that alone should pretty much tell you what has become of modern Star Trek and modern Star Wars and that in the final analysis tells you what has become of modern wrestling. In fact I can honestly say that modern wrestling is a direct reflection of modern Hollywood.

  • @Honestwrestlingfan92-yg4cf
    @Honestwrestlingfan92-yg4cf 12 дней назад

    I got two points to make regarding modern wrestling. POINT #1:AEW's idea of good storytelling now is what WWE thought was good storytelling back then HLA and giving top titles to underlings. Both obviously have Hollywood writing their stories for them.

    If they do bring in Shane, I would like to see them do something like Palpatine and Anakin where everyone thinks Shane is the good guy who is leading the charge and he takes the young hero (not sure who) that he slowly corrupts behind the scenes who eventually takes out Mox with the help the help of Mox's crew as it is revealed Shane was the evil mastermind the whole time. And then they run roughshod over AEW for at least 6 months before we see someone slowly break down the faction. This should be at least two years.

    personally i loved this PPV from start to finish. not sure why people are saying the ending was terrible as if we didn't know it was gonna happen. ( i didn't think Yuta would turn tho , but i knew Mox was gonna be the one to finish Bryan's career ) it is also my opinion that not every PPV ending has to feel good , as AEW's "you're gonna feel terrible with this ending" is usually leading towards feel good moments in later years. in my opinion , the climax to Mox's story and the big reveal will happen at World's End where they will murder Tony Khan and all the EVPs (Kenny and Christopher Daniels included) to reveal Shane McMahon is now controlling the company so we can do a big reset for 2025. i know big resets have happened too much in AEW but they definitely need this one. World's End feels like the perfect PPV to do this with , last year MJF's world ended. this year Tony Khan's world ends. i also think Bryan will remain with AEW on a backstage capacity as he seemingly loves the company. overall i am only seeing positives for AEW from a creative standpoint. the viewership may not change for US fans until all of this is said and done tho
