Random thoughts about diabetes, life, and other odds and ends.
Covid for Christmas
For the second time this year, I have caught Covid. And, naturally, it happened just before Christmas. My brain was a bit fried, as can be seen in these clips.
As promised, mg/dl to mmol/l coversions:
145 = 8.1
155 = 8.6
My channel is not monetized, but I do have artwork for sell here:

Random staycation moments

I had last week off work. Just filmed bits about cleaning progress, the puppy, and an Omnipod site change. Also, I briefly discuss my diagnosis with Long Covid. For the record, that illness did a number on my blood sugar when I had it, and is now doing a number on my energy.
Rebuilding my Omnipod backups w/ my TSlimX2 pump.

I had a time of it getting my new insurance to approve Omnipod. Months of denials followed by an email saying, “Oops, we didn’t mean to deny it.” So, I ran low on my spare Omnipods, and I really don’t like dealing with their customer service line. I am using my extra Tandem supplies (at least 10 sites worth) to rebuild my Omnipod cushion. -My RUclips isn’t monetized, but I do have a site where ...
New Roommate and Omnipod 5 update

I have been using an Omnipod 5 system for 6 months. Here are my current thoughts. Oh, and I have also adopted a rescue pup. She’s a little Coton de Tulear named Ghanima (after Paul and Chani’s daughter in the Dune series), and is a little handful! And, yes, she does need the fur around her eyes trimmed. I have a grooming appointment set up for a couple weeks from now. (Everything was booked up ...
I had knee surgery

The surgery actually took place on December 1. I filmed from a couple days before to a couple after, and the day of. My Hoffa’s fat pat was getting impinged in some of the surrounding tissues, so that was partially excised, along with some bone spurs on the back of the patella. I have my phone my samsung controls my system
Tandem had had me in the hospital 3 times in less then a month I hate tandem it doesn't cut off my insulin
I Have Covid again, and I'm just getting better!!
It's a process for sure!

Love your video , I am on a mission to expose MLM's and in the process of trying to get someone either on the phone or better yet on video so when I live stream I can catch them in their faults claims and perhaps get them to say something incriminating . Good thing you didn't loose more then 12k I know people who have lost 100's of thousands due to these shit bags . Good that you got out of it , Some people never do , I know people who have been in Amway for 25 years and despite not making any money they wont leave . Any business that dosen't start bringing in net profits after 6 months to a year is a failing business , if investing in an established business if you don't make money within 3 months its a scam . Again good for you for standing up to those bastards and telling your story
It might sound rude but, if you are not able to work please do not blame the company. Companies never work it’s you who need to work in the company. Company is just a platform provided to the people who really need it.
I just found you…. I was a mini med pump user (nearly 25 yrs with them…) and had used their sensor that required so much calibration every day…. I switched less that two months ago to Omni pod….. I am still struggling, but am so much happier with my Dexcom alone, that I’m trying to get the rest of the system some time….
God bless you 🙏
Too many scams are everywhere. Look for real jobs, people, if you can find them.
I'm surprised they got you although I don't know what age. Primerica got me when I was in 21 and I thought it was so odd that 90% of their recruits were like me are my age or younger. That's when i start to realize what is their agenda and how they survive. They will constantly need to go after kids.
Extreme, kids can be such pigeons.
errors an omissions is not part of wig you should have canceled stop lying to make your self famous you did not due the work so you never made money all you have said is a lie like other people takes hustle to make money.
Maybe they even didn't get a license or attended even a training
WFG is a pyramid bullshit that just happens to sell insurance, your better off selling insurance with an actual insurance company you will make more money and not be incentivized to recruit people
Thx for your advice I’ll check out your art
Love my Tandem. Had omni pod. Hope it works out for you. We are blessed to get the products we do. There are so many people that can't. ❤
Sad to hear about the terrible customer service with Omnipod for you. I used to use the Medtronic 670G. Ended up disliking the pump. But I have nothing but praise for their wonderful customer service people. They were the best of the best.
Actually called a couple weeks ago and it was better, so might be improving.
Omg I am from Indy too! I have had type 1 for 31 years, got it when I was 3 and I am 34 now. I am going to speak with my Endo tomorrow about finally making the switch to a pump. I am so scared but so ready to start this new journey. I don't know if i will go with TSlim or Ominipod. But I feel like Omnipod is what I am leaning towards.
Best of luck! I am assuming you are already on Dexcom or another CGM?
@@Carol_Pearson yes yes. I am on the G6 and I love it… when it works hahaha
They recruit anyone with a pulse ! ❤AlwaysMarco has great content on WFG. If you have to pay for a job it's a scam, all mlm is a scam
Thank you for sharing your experience. I spent a few years in a couple different MLMs and bought expensive products to “support” friends. You brought up an important issue - boundaries. MLMs and their hunbots will exploit anyone who doesn’t have proper boundaries in place. I too had to go to therapy to learn how to set healthy boundaries, and it is very freeing to be firm, and that it’s okay to say no.
I know someone who got their policy declined but he got a cheque. Should he cash it in?
why not?...whenever I get a cheque I cash it
An old employer reached out to me, he was on the news today talking about it a bit and he also has a law firm. Honestly this makes me hesitant. So far I have only paid the 125 for the background check

@@clove100 i technically already said okay but have not started studying for the test or signed up for it. They had a training meeting yesterday and I missed it, I was already busy but I still haven't fully committed. Almost more inclined to do course careers for technical sales instead after watching Anthony O'Neal's podcast
@@Tameker6 any updates with them now?
I was on Omnipod for 5 years and it was a nightmare. Originally I used Animas. Did the company ever bother to tell you that they have problems with the insulin tunneling back out on the third day. Watch your third day readings. If you get readings that make no sense, that could be the problem. The company is aware of the problem.
Hi fellow podder!! I'm from Vincennes Indiana
Thanks
I’ve been on for about a week now but when I change a pod every time I break off the plastic tab insulin goes everywhere probably around 10 units where the cannula is is that normal?
I bet you're glad the surgery is over. Hope you heal quickly!
For those grossed out by surgical marks and bruising, skip from 19:27 to 19:39 to avoid seeing the unwrapped knee.
Thanks for your insight.
I hope all goes well with your surgery and your recovery is quick! Did the Dr office say you can wear a pump during surgery?
I haven’t asked. Will just show up and hope for the best.
I just called and left a voicemail with the nurse.
@@Carol_Pearson Better to not be surprised or have an issue when you show up.
Latest update: just leave them on.
I’ve been using T-Slim for about two years and I’m switching to Omnipod Dash 5. Now that it works with Dexcom G6. How is it? My glucose levels are perfect. Ha1c are perfect as well. I just don’t like the tubing on the t-slim
It’s been going well. Bit of an adjustment for the first month, but working well now.
TY Carol , good to know

Hey Carol! I am trying out omnipod 5 and will be starting it in a month or so. I currently have the tandem tslim x2. I am also pretty neurotic about my blood sugars and I tend to go low a lot (probably under 80 needing hypo treatment once per day) because I have a physically active job. How has it been with the AI feature learning your routines? Has it gotten significantly better? Also wondering about the duration of wearing the pod. I know you're supposed to change every 3 days, but I often end up using less insulin than expected and end up wearing for 4 or 5 days pretty regularly. Does the omnipod make you change every 3 days like clockwork, or do you decide when to change it? Thanks in advance!
I find I go low less often with it. And, yes, you will have to change every 3 days, but there is an 8 hour grace period. I have been putting less insulin in the pod. I think 80 or 90 units is the minimum, so I would say just put a bit less in and you should be ok? (There is a way to draw out the insulin, but I only do that if I have a pod failure on day 1 because it is right against the skin.)
@@Carol_Pearson thank you! That's super helpful! I just watched your 2 month review as well and that was helpful too, so thank you for sharing! 😊
Oh one more question! Can you manually temporarily shut off the insulin at any point?
@@anistrand1928 at a certain point, if your blood sugars are predicted to be low enough, it will not deliver insulin. As far as manual adjustments while it is running, you would have to switch to manual mode.
Will you be doing another update?
I will see. If I do, it may be closer to a year out.
This is great information. Thank you for sharing.
Feel better.
Thanks
I was on an omnipod for 4 years and I did love it. I recently switched to a different pump and I’m not loving it. So I’m switching back! My pods are on the way and I can’t wait to get set up again.
Carol what are your thoughts 4 weeks later. I am on the tslim and it is amazing. I want to get rid of the tubes though. My desire to be disconnected from the tubes isn't as high as the convenience of the tslim auto bolus and auto basal. So if the omnipod is not on par than I will stick with the tube annoyance.
I've had to adjust some of settings (changed my insulin to carb ratio and increased the max basal the system can deliver in an hour) because of the heat, but it seems to be working well now.
I never used the Tandem but I recently "upgraded" Omnipod 5 from the Dash. Unfortunately it's been terrible for me. The first night, I woke up drenched in sweat because my sugar was 43. We slept through the alarms. The Omni 5 was giving me boluses during the night even though my settings are to only correct BG >120. Super scary and I've only been using manual mode since then. I double-checked all my settings and can't figure out why it was giving me boluses when my sugar was normal. I saw a couple other users complain of the same issue on Reddit. This is my 3rd day on the Omni 5, the other thing I dislike is that it's very slow at correcting high sugars. It seems like the most it will bolus is 0.15 units, so I gave up on automated mode completely and my sugars are better.
It’s been ok for me, but I agree it is a bit slow at correcting highs.
@@Carol_Pearson is the tandem t slim x2 faster ?
I’m hoping to hear more as you gain experience with the omniPod about how it compares to the T-slim. Are you loving it?
Very much so! I liked the T-slim too, but my warranty was up, so thought I would try something without tubes. It's nice not having to disconnect when I go into water.
How much insulin do you put into each pod? Is there a lot of waste?
@@eastonguy62 I usually put about 100 or so units in. I use about 30 or so a day, so not much waste.
Hi Carol. Wondering what your overall thoughts are with the omnipod 5 vs Tandem. I am making the switch soon and trying to decide between omnipod 5 and T Slim. Thanks!
I enjoy not having tubes. It's taken a little while to adjust to the system, and I'm still trying to figure out the best places to put the pods as my body doesn't like wide areas of medical adhesive, but so far, so good. The Tandem was a good system, though, and when they release their patch pump, I may look into going back, but right now, I'm happy.
how did you set up the training appointment? i’m getting my omnipod next week but i can’t figure out how to get an appointment.
I set it up through my doctors office. My endo has diabetes educators who handle the training. I would imagine you could call Omnipod as well.
@@Carol_Pearson okay, thank you!
I would love to know how much the Omni pod 5 kept you in range throughout the day and night. I’m insulin resistant in the morning and I fluctuate during the night from high-to-low-to-high again. I’m hoping the Omnipod will help me with that. Still working with my Insurance.
It’s done pretty well. I had one off day, but that was because of a lot of miscalculations on my part. Im still trying to figure out where I will get the best absorption.
Thank you for the video i just got cleared to get an omnipod by my doctor cant wait! Im tored of imjectios..
hello how much is it?
I think it's in the $600 range, but a lot of it depends on where you live, what kind of medical coverage you have, if you have insurance if you've met your deductible, etc. Mine was $80 because I got it as a pharmacy benefit, but am not sure what pods will be going forward.
I appreiate a video but maybe you should've waited until you were more awake. I'd rather see the 30 only without comparing the 90 to it. Too confusing for me. thanks anyway.
Only the top .01% earn money.
Right. Scammers are everywhere.
Not true more than .01% earn money. But it’s not a WFG thing the whole insurance industry a lower amount will make money than those who don’t. Same in real estate. Doesn’t make the industry bad.
@@TheOpinionSports, nah. Liars and scammers are taking over too many things.
But this is sales in general. If you have a knack for talking to people and being persuasive, you will do well in any sales environment. It could be any company but yes, it's a small % of successful individuals. It's not a task oriented job and doesn't depend on your education but your interpersonal skills and confidence. This is why a good number of sales, especially entry-level sales, will take anyone, so long as you aren't criminal 🤣
They might call themselves a company name and never tell you it is WFG
Yeah, I think legally they can't say it, so it's not until you show up that it comes out what the actual company is.
@@Carol_Pearson hmmm never heard that in my 6 months on a team
Someone who wants to join WFG should have a stable 40 hours a week job first and then start WFG on a part time basis . Otherwise it won’t work. People shouldn’t blame WFG
@@uttttgs yes absolutely that is what SHOULD be happening. But that is not who I saw WFG pushing recruit. If they did have a 40 hour a week job, they were pushed to leave it as soon as possible. To be able to commit further, attend the insanely full schedule of team and upline meetings all the time. To just have faith and go “all in” that it would work. People were celebrated for leaving a secure paycheck in favor of the System - before that System was ever fully supporting them.
@@uttttgs why not? It’s a pyramid scheme where majority don’t make squat.
I'm not yet a pump user, but I've used each upper arm for housands of injections, so I have some observations that might work for you. Until you have done a procedure so often that you can do it blindfolded, being able to clearly see what you are doing is important. If you can't see what you are doing, try using a mirrror. Don't be afraid to do "dry" rehearsals. Experiment with a capped needle short of the insertion until you find a technique that is comfortable. If you aren't comfortable you will make mistakes. What technique will work best for you depends on your arm's length and shape, your flexibiity and the exact site A thin middle aged woman will have differnt arm mobility than a much older woman, a child or a muscular man. eg I have long thin and non-muscular (flabby) arms. I use the back of a chair to stabilize my upper arm before I clean the area with alcohol. Depending on where I want to make the insertion I will either put the palm of that arm behind my shoulder or the back against my sternum. The first works better for my sites closer to the body arm and nearer the armpit. I inject those from "below" The second works better for more outboard sites and I inject those from above. From those positions I can push the area where I'm going to insert the needle forward where I can see it better. This should work just as well for me manually inserting a cannula. But it might be totally unsuitable for you!!
