@@junkgyre5301 , that could be a bit unpleasant! Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate it.
Nice. I never tried to do a scalloping job.
Thanks Eric. This is a first for me and I'm winging it. It's a junk neck so if I mangle the fingerboard I'll just pretend that none of this ever happened!
🫨
@@PooNinja , that was my reaction too! The neck has a twist and is unusable so it’s a good chance to experiment. If it all goes awry I’ll just toss it under the bed and forget about it.

Use the click!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@@PooNinja thanks Poo Ninja! I’ve become obsessed with click and drum tracks.
@@bass-hiroshimanick2534 most people don’t realize how many live bands where all the musicians have the click in their in ears. When your changes are all midi sequenced and everything runs on the clock. Lights, video displays, efx changes, pyro, everything controlled by time. Have a great week Sir
@@PooNinja I actually didn't know that either but it makes sense considering how much is happening on stage. Enjoy the weekend.
I used to own the Japanese and American geddy Lee jazz basses. I traded the American one for a ruby rickenbacker 4003s. Don’t regret it, but something about those block Inlay 70s jazz basses are really cool. I don’t like the tapered neck, that’s why I play rics
@@shiningumbreon4322 , that is a great trade! The 4003s is such a nice bass.
My wife’s name is Rhiannon. Her mom named her after this song
@@shiningumbreon4322 , my best to your wife, she was named an excellent song.
They hate us cause they ain’t us. A lot of people who don’t like rics can’t afford them to begin with lol.
@@shiningumbreon4322 , that may very well be true. I just can’t understand why someone would hate an instrument that never did anything to them.
I’m with you, My 1979 4001 has the original frets. They even look a little green towards the bottom frets. I would never refret any of my ricks. I don’t understand why people do, just go buy another one!
Same here, I will never refret my 1981 Rick. I got a bit of that green mold too on some frets. Fret erasers seem to keep it under control. Thanks for watching.
@@bass-hiroshimanick2534is the green mold stuff bad? Should I clean it up?
@@shiningumbreon4322 , the green is corrosion from the different fret materials. I don’t know what the long term effects can be but I haven’t noticed any problems with my Rick.
Sir I believe this video is AI generated and I can confirm that there is no such thing as a Rickenbacker bass guitar.
Thanks so much, this comment cracked me up!
That lacquered neck is beautiful. Do you have a preferred string for your rickenbackers?
@@MrCbrown5000 thank you. I like to use D’Addario Chromes ECB-81, 45-100 on my Rickenbacker basses.
Anyone who calls a Rickerbacker, a Rickenbocker is a bonehead. Call it what it is, dummies! If you're not sure, call the Rickenbacker telephone number in California and listen to the greeting. IT's RICKENBACKER, BACKER.... not bocker! By the way, of all the basses I have owned over the decades, my Rics are STILL by far, the best of any of them.
Well that's weird on the Badass bridge. It would also mean you can't even use .110 rounds either... The old Fender bridge is know for being too short. Hell, I've seen old Fender catalogs and the strings they had "in the old days" simply had the silk over the saddles on the E and A... Making them just a half inch longer would solve so many problems but it seems they'd rather stick to a faulty design. BTW, Duck Dunn used some sort of washer to put the E string back just enough the regular wound part of the string would sit on the saddle (with .052-.110 La Bella's, which have no silk on the ball end).
@@ludovicvanb9713 , thanks for watching and for the interesting info on those Fender bridge issues. I also didn’t know Duck Dunn used a washer at the ball end of the string.
@@bass-hiroshimanick2534 There's a video out there of his son Jeff showing his dad's gear. I think it's an episode of "Scott's Bass lesson". The problem is even worse on Gibson-style basses with their awful 3-point bridges. The best solution is to buy a "mod bar", but thats 30 bucks or so. It retains all 4 string just back enough only the "speaking" part of the strings rest on the saddle.
@@ludovicvanb9713 , thanks for the info on Scott’s Bass I’ll take a look at his channel Jeff showing his gear. I replaced the 3 Point Bridge on my Gibson SG bass with a Hipshot direct replacement bridge and it’s an amazing bridge!
@@bass-hiroshimanick2534 They came stock on the Gibson basses for a handful of years. Now not only are they back to the old bridge but prices have soared. They used to be $1300-1400 and now they're about $1,900. I regret not buying the cheaper "satin finish" a while ago. They were sth like $900 max. Love the tone, but can't stand the neck dive. And Gibson QC.
@@ludovicvanb9713 , yes, I remember they had changed the bridge for a short time and then went back. Same here, I regret not buying the SG bass with the satin finish when I had the chance several years back. And Like you said they were going for a great price back then but now Gibson prices are ridiculous!
You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about: there are tons of footage of Lemmy playing a Rickenbacker; I have pictures of Geddy and Squier playing a Ricky bass. I just saw a video the other day of McCartney putting down his Hoffner for a Ricky. Roger Glover played a Ricky up to and including The Machine Head album: pictures of him with it in the box set. In an interview Glover explained why he switched from it but he played it. Definitive. I’ve seen Cliff Burton and Al Cisneros live with a Ricky in their hands. I guess that was a mirage too.
@@djacobmadrigal , Sir, it was a joke I was being extremely sarcastic. So called experts all over social media are always complaining about Rickenbacker basses when they’ve never even touched one and my video was simply just an utterly ridiculous response to all the whining about Rickenbacker basses. I do appreciate you watching though. Thank you and have a good week.
@@bass-hiroshimanick2534 it would help if your delivery of the punchline gave us the idea that it was a joke. Oh wait you have no punchline. You should research how to do deadpan style comedy: look at clips of Bob Newhart.

A lot of the truss rod supersition is from the 4001 where adjusting its odd truss sytem could result in snapping the neck in half. And its neck-through, so its not like you could just bolt on a new neck.
Can you imagine actually snapping the truss rod/neck on any guitar? Talk about a nightmare! Thanks for watching.

Many times. Many many. In communist Jugoslavija no fretless basses. Well, we made it😊 Jack Pastorius was my idol in 80s.
Yes, Jaco was a genius! Thanks for watching.
The #1 best way to adjust the intonation on a Rickenbacker is to take it to a music store and trade it in for a Fender Jazz Bass.
Great comment! I also love my Fender Jazz basses. Thanks.
Most nightmarish bass I ever owned was a 74 Ric 4001. I got fed up with constantly fighting it. In 85 I traded it for a brand new Ibanez Roadstar Bass and felt like I got the better deal. The Roadstar had a stable neck and workable bridge. I actually learned how to play on that Ibanez. The only thing the Ric taught me was disappointment.
Those Ibanez Roadstar basses are nice basses, do you still have yours? I sold my Ibanez to a friend a few years ago and of course regret it.
Loving it Nick!
