    I would like to ask you how long it will get the fruits?

    • @DragonFruitPastime
      @DragonFruitPastime 4 дня назад

      It takes around 3 months for a bud to become a harvestable fruits. The particular variety and weather affects the duration.

    Appreciate your enthusiasm 😂 and attitude. Enjoyment is key to a good life. May you live long and prospered. Love the drsgon fruit. I started my dragon fruit journey in 2019 and continued to these days. Sonetimes, I wonder why I put myself thru this. Good combination and combo hobby with the wife. I'm also a Libra but my wife and I are opposite in most way. She enjoys the DF blooming and eating portion. Best of luck and continue the joy brother!

    I guess I am like u Charlie, growing for fun only one flower which aborted due to heat. Getting ready to build a bigger green house to keep my pots warm dry and under LED maybe a HPS to help warm the new greenhouse. Pray for flowers n fruit next year 😊

    Thanks for the update Charlie. I subscribed quite a while ago and have enjoyed your content. I have made several versions of your data log. I log the date that I discover each bud, the date that they bloom, the pollen/ mix used to pollinate them, harvest date, fruit weight and brix reading. I’m in Texas, along the lower Gulf Coast. From bud to bloom is about 15-17 days. From bloom to ripe is 30 to 40 days depending on the variety. I currently have 190 buds from the most recent wave that occurred from 8/31-9/2. A lot of the buds will abort. I will remove buds leaving no more than 2 per branch, since most of my plants are in their first year of production. I lost 40 of my most mature plants last winter when the temperatures dropped to 26 degrees for several hours.

    • @DragonFruitPastime
      @DragonFruitPastime 8 дней назад

      Thanks for sharing. I will be changing my log also. With so many fruits this year, I'll track the quantity of flowers that I pollinate each day instead of every bud that I see.

    I really like this! Your form is simple and easy to use. My question though, is how do you account for waves of buds? I did an initial count, and I had 5 on one plant... then a couple weeks later, I got another three!

    • @DragonFruitPastime
      @DragonFruitPastime 15 дней назад

      The log is a snapshot in a particular day or month. I realized that tracking the number of buds is not easy once you have over 100... I am thinking of changing the way I track - track how many and variety of flowers I pollinate and then track how many of those become harvestable fruits. I will still track the buds but once it gets into July when a 100 of them shows up, I'll just change to tracking flowers instead.

    Hey How do you fertilize your dragonfruit and with what fertilizer How often in the season??

    • @DragonFruitPastime
      @DragonFruitPastime 20 дней назад

      This season, I used the following: Alfalfa Pellets (same pellets for feeding livestock) After last season, around end of October, I applied an inch of it over the soil Chicken Manure Applied around end of March when the plants show signs of waking up from the Winter Liquid Fish Fertilizer (many brands - no particular) Applied once per month starting in April General Hydroponics - Flora Nova Bloom Applied once per month starting in April (e.g. each month, use fish 1st week, 2 weeks later, use Bloom, then repeat following month) In between the fertilizer months, I just water.

    How many days from bud to flower and from flower to ripened fruit for this variety?

    • @DragonFruitPastime
      @DragonFruitPastime 22 дня назад

      I did not keep a good tracking log on this variety because it's hard to determine if the bud is a flower bud or a new branch bud. Before the bud becomes apparent, white hair grows out of the main branch first. It can take 2 to 3 weeks for me to confirm it's a flower bud. Base on my confirmation date, it'll take about 70 days for the flower to open. When to harvest the fruit is another challenge to track. Because the fruit is not sweet, I leave it on the branch for many weeks after the fruit turns pink. It turns pink around 60 days but I don't harvest it until 80 or more days. Even then, the fruit is still not sweet.

    This was another fun and informative video. Thanks for taking the time Charlie (and Hailey!). Charlie you mentioned that you collected the pollen a few days ago. Can you share some details the best way to store it for short term vs. long term? I understand that the pollen has to be dried before you freeze it, so you don't get ice crystals that denatures the pollen protein. Do you have a guidance to ensure proper dryness? Also, for short term, do you refrigerate to avoid the ice issue? Thanks a bunch for sharing your knowledge--and having fun doing it!

    • @DragonFruitPastime
      @DragonFruitPastime Месяц назад

      Hi Michael. After collecting the fresh pollen, I place it in a tin bowl for a day to let it air out. I keep the bowl cool inside my house on the kitchen counter. Cover the bowl wit a napkin to block moisture out. After the 1st day, I place the pollen in tiny glass jars with a napkin cover to let the pollen air out more on the kitchen counter for another day. After the 2nd day, I place the lids on and put them in the refrigerator. I like the tiny jars because I can shake the pollen inside vigorously to loosen/break up the clumps. Since I have so much pollen, I throw away old jar pollen when I get new ones. I'll only freeze the jar pollen if they're gathered from the end of the season. I'll save only a few American Beauty jars of pollen. I hear frozen pollen make smaller size fruits so I don't want to keep too much for the following year.

    Can you give the plant more nutrients to support more fruit? What is your general rule for number of fruit per branch? I assume you can choose to let more Sugar Dragon fruit grow since that fruit is already so small. i counted 42 buds on my SD right now, I don't have the heart to thin it
