    They really need to find a way to to secure the spine, so that the user can get rid of the crutches. Also, obviously it needs to get faster, but that will come in time.

    Oh, for Pete's sake! What is that woman on about? I'm a lifelong wheelchair-user, I'm 48 & there is nothing wrong with my digestion! Let's be honest, what this is mostly about is people being ashamed of being seen in a wheelchair. As for the casual disablism (able-ism, as you Americans say) of saying this is for "individuals...who are committed to living life to the fullest"! Yeah, because people who use wheelchairs are - 1. Not living life to the fullest 2. Have no commitment. Btw, someone should undeceive that woman: a robust wheelchair will get you around in the countryside a lot better & a lot more safely than something so inherently unstable.

    In fact if the people using it didn't have to concentrate on not falling over perhaps they would be more confident with it and not need the sticks to keep them upright. Brilliant system though looking forward to see what comes next with it, been watching the military one for some time now it's all very interesting.

  • @flitsies
    @flitsies 11 лет назад

    I'm just wondering why this system doesn't use a self balancing unit to stabilise it, if you look at the c1 electric motorcycle being tested now, they use gyro mechanisms to balance the vehicle, or even the Segway uses a stabilising system, but this seems to rely on human stability with people that seem to have lost that ability. So by using a stabilising system like the c1 electric bike or Segway it may make the device more user friendly and mobile.

    Good for 'younger with muscle memory'? To be honest, that’s disappointing to me. My grandpa needs to walk again. At 16, his legs got weaker, until he could barely move his toes. He suffers from ‘Muscular Dystrophy’, a muscle disease that weakens the musculoskeletal system. He is 63 now. He used to be able to walk a bit, but he fell & smashed his pelvis. Can’t it be able to accommodate grandpa? He’s old, & can’t remember walking. Will it work for him, or is it simply for the younger?

    I dearly wish I had the money to buy my father one of these. Since the past few Christmas eves, his years in a wheelchair began to outnumber his years without one, having been shot in the spine in his 30's. Since the muscles in his lower back and buttock aren't strong enough to support his weight on crutches, he's been confined to a wheelchair for half his life. Just to be able to see him able to walk around at 6'2 instead of roll at 4'3 would be amazing.
