What's the point of having the boards there if you take them up? Is this a yearly thing or something from the origins of the dam being built?
The boards increase the head during summer low flow to increase power generation. High flow you want the spillway capacity and you will have high head anyway. They replaced the wood kicker boards with permanent ones supported by air bladders a few yrs ago.
It's the dirt that gives the the flavours not sand the moisture of the juices that run of on to the hot rocks combined with steamed dirt cabbage leaves are Betta to use

An excellent video. P.S. I read every comment and it is clear nobody understands what is going on here. They put up a temporary dam higher than the roller dam, fill it with water, and then release it to clear the lake of decaying wood, possibly from a slide or debris flow. The dams are made to become part of the environment, but I saw the "Rat Patrol" picking up pieces of dam that weren't politically correct. I also saw them rearrange lots of logs down stream. ♡ T.E.N.

Ok. Confused. What are flash boards, how are they installed, what are they made of, and how are they released? Do you get them back, or are they just scrapped into the river?
Apparently they are a cheap wooden dam placed at the top of round over dams like these to raise the water level. Then the crew dismantles them? I think that is what the cable was attached too. They broke one part and the rest broke due to water pressure.
They are designed to break away once the support wire is removed. They are just wood and not recovered, in this type of removal. But they are some designed to pivot at 90 degrees and not come lose. The pipe the boards pivots on is designed to shear off if the water level get too high.
This dam video sucks.

THE MUSIC IS CRAP. Why was the dam removed. Hydroelectric is the cleanest of ALL power sources. We need more HYDROELECTRIC!
It was not removed. Just the top boards were taken out. Besides it is only 27 miles to the next dam down stream. Then the water goes through Grand Coulee, Wells, Rocky reach, Rock Island, Wanapum, Priest Rapids, Mcnary, John day, The Dalles, and Bonneville Dams before it hits the Pacific Ocean.
Dams are horrible for the environment. Nuclear is the only good answer
I use to get electricity from The powerplant at KY Dam. I like COAL the best.
