Song Analysis, Piano Arrangements, Goofballin, some original music from my project "Power Bait." I do these when I have the time and about whatever I'm into at the moment. If you like my stuff, the best way to support me would be to buy one of my albums off bandcamp. You can also send me an email if you'd like to book a lesson. Have a nice day!
Erik Satie "Trois Sarabandes" in the yard
Who else feels like October is totally Satie month?? Trois Sarabandes performed in the yard on keyboard a fine Sunday afternoon, Oct. 13, 2024. Apologies for the miscount in the last few bars of III, my brain suddenly stopped working.
I personally think of Erik Satie’s Trois Sarabades (1887) as the root of ambient music as we know it. A slow orbit of distinct sonic events, much akin to Eno’s “Music for Airports.” As you may know, Satie’s original manuscript was riddled with intentionally difficult notation. Double-sharps, and double-flats abound, making a rather simple piece unnecessarily difficult. He was something of a meme-ing troll for his time. For instance, one D major chord spelled...

Elliott Smith "A Passing Feeling" piano reduction
Просмотров 430Месяц назад
This was an interesting and somewhat difficult one to adapt for piano! So much syncopation and chromaticism in the composition. I had to make it even harder for myself by adding some extra LH riffs in the coda. A tad sloppy in the performance but I did my best and believe it'll convey the idea. I'd like to imagine someone playing it cleaner on a better instrument someday. Thanks to Kristen1 for...

Another of my personal Judee favorites. This one's off the 1971 self titled. I was unable to obtain the publishing rights so I'm giving the sheet music free below. I have yet to hear back from Warner Music Group (who owns Elektra Records, who Asylum merged with in the 70s) regarding my inquiry for printing license, but I'm sure I'll hear from em any day now! drive.google.com/file/d/1pY2zefIxUj-...

This song is nuts! This is a snippet from an upcoming analysis video on Sibylle , in which I'll draw parallels between 20th century mobile/modular composition forms and elements of Sybille's songwriting. Stay tuned and enjoy this for now.

I love the idea of filming these outdoors, but getting good audio has been a challenge. The freeway and the wind were against me that day. MY APOLOGIES. Nevertheless here I share my thoughts on Terry Callier's stunningly beautiful 1972 classic, "Occasional Rain." www.theguardian.com/music/2004/oct/15/folk.jazz

So French! So Frabjous! I hope you only ate white coloured foods to celebrate Satie month. EDIT: you really have to enjoy the various "non-resolutions" that Satie finds here.
Like a nightingale with a toothache i will!
could you do more korn
What an idyllic life you live
It's the simple things.
Always loved this piece. Some slinky murky harmonies. Very French
This emotionally devastating performance deserves a yellow flannel
👏🏻🦆
Amazing! More Kate analysis would be so appreciated
So glad you dig!
3:14 breaking into “ Smokestack Lightning” by Howlin Wolf! Nice!
A riff for the ages!
*I found this Song a few Days ago and fell in Love.* 💖😮💖 Can you imagine that this Song was recorded in the Year 1968!!!
found your channel from your videos about Elliott Smith and have been listening to your music since then. Keep it up its great stuff :)
wow, thanks so much for listening!
Love it!
thanks miles!!
Top-drawer stuff
daww thank you!
Great stuff! Keep kicking ass
THANKS!
Hey! Nice music you got there!
I appreciate it!
that bird migration analogy was awesome!
Excellent analysis of a song rich in spiritual, musical, and lyrical offering. I’m a classical composer and wrote a string quartet called “I Laughed So Hard I Cried-for Judee Sill. The title comes from her song “The Lamb Ran Away With the Crown.” Here’s a video if you’d like to check it out. ruclips.net/video/uYrtQyfQFzo/видео.htmlsi=s-sd1lbgG1h923a9
I keep coming back to this video. Thank you for keeping the spirit of this song and Elliott alive. Thank you.
Legit the most underrated music channel
Amazing
I just started piano lessons 2 months ago but your channel is making me wanna just go for a full music degree bc i only understand about 30% of what you’re saying but I find it all very interesting. You definitely got my attention with these breakdowns of Kate Bush and Judee Sill. I know she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but if you ever make a video on a Joanna Newsom piano tune i’d probably die where i stood (from happiness)
thx so much for sharing! Yeah, I'll admit some of my stuff is a bit too fast for the beginner, but soo glad you enjoy them! I've actually been wanting to do something off Have One on Me for some time, I looove that album. Don't want to be arrested for murder tho
@@addyd.3140 Have one on me is an all time fav. I’d be curious to hear your take on some of her new unreleased songs she premiered last year. They’re all piano based save for one. Rovenshere and Marie at the Mill have this really cool cyclical thing going on that i’d love to hear analyzed one day
@@joemama2499 I'll have to check them out, I was unaware about new material. Yeah, to be honest JN's work is pretty intimidating, a single song can be so sprawling, it's like, well should I analyze This part ...or That part.. like several songs connected as a suite. I feel the same about some of Laura Nyro's stuff, which I also really want to do eventually!
@@addyd.3140 Ive been into Joanna since middle school but just discovered Laura Nyro a year ago. I couldn’t stop listening to Eli and the 13th confession a few months ago. Lately ive been on a heavy Judee Sill kick. Joanna’s new stuff is definitely very distinct from her older stuff. In a good way. Way more emphasis on the piano this time. Lots of looping chords and texture idk if im explaining this well my basic music theory needs heavy work. The channels Bjorksdottir and Eric Doce have the best quality records of all her new songs I’m hoping that 5 years from now I can productively contribute to the subject of musical analysis of joanna newsom. College incoming ruclips.net/video/RaaGzQ50cIM/видео.htmlsi=HbsAWrntPyFpgN43
Judee Sill is really inching me toward believing in god
Fab breakdown!
"Does some weird little sus thing there. Suspended, folks!" 😆Really sus, indeed. Very interesting and entertaining video, as always!
Thanks!
Oh man, I feel like you can read my mind about songs I would like to understand. I have been obsessed with this song for years. Incredible job as always.
Love Townes Van Zandt, specially Flyin' shoes
Yes! So good.
So happy to see arranger Rick again
Wow! thanks man I appreciate all the effort and detail you went in to here. it's nice to have a an analysis that doesn't just focus on moving on the I II IV transition non-stop lol. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that one of his favourite songs was ill be back by the beateles. watching this made me think of that, how it switches back and forth from the a to aminor in the verse witht he same ambiguity. anyway just thought you may be interested. thanks again!
Haha, yeah I know right? A lot of folks tend to fixate on that chord move and call it a day, but there's really a whole world to unpack. I'm glad you see that too, and that you liked the vid! Yes, I remember that tune, great example! The door kind of seems to revolve freely between Maj / min.
I get those same feelings everytime.
Congratulations! It sounded great! Nice playing!
Elliott videos are always my favorite. Wish it were an analysis though! But thanks and nice playing by the way.
Thank you, and Noted!
@@addyd.3140 oh, and your version of "a passing feeling" that was beautiful! I hadn't heard that song, but thanks to you I did.
Really fun video, I like your approach to edutainment. There are shades of sesame street (I mean this as the highest praise)
By the way, yes Moby Dick is good. It's really good. Just keep in mind Ishamel isn't meant to be the most reliable or knowledgeable guy
One of my greatest childhood lamentations is not watching Sesame St. growing up. Probably just too many siblings arguing over what to watch.
You goated for this
😼🤟
Wanted to come back to this video and say thank you, thank you, thank you for putting me on to these guys. They've become one of my favourite groups to listen to, brought so much joy to me and my friends, and given me so many ideas for my own music. They really do feel like one of those groups that "should have been bigger."
Thanks for writing, Sam. omg, it warms my heart! This is all I ever wanted to come from making something like this. Be well, and keep in touch
this is incredible. well done!
THANKS!
very nicely done! one of my favs!

Beautifully done.
HELL yes
this is an unprecedented accomplishment within the Elliott smith community. Well done :)
Yayyyy, glad you liked it!
this is gorgeous
I’m in awe
