Spectacular Attractions #003 Part Four: Michael Haneke's Cache
The third episode in a series of videos from Dan North's blog Spectacular Attractions. In this edition, a lecture on Michael Haneke's Cache, delivered at the University of Exeter. The students on this course had recently watched the film, so the lecture assumes prior knowledge of its plot: if you haven't seen the film, and don't want any spoilers, you should probably come back to this video after you've seen it. This is the final part of a four-part series.

Creepy how he admitted he loved his puppet more than his daughter. He had a special room for him at home and put him in his will yet left his daughter nothing.

He never said such a thing. He did have a room where he kept all his figures, that's true. He also left all his money to his wife which is what most husband's do. When she passed the rest was divided amongst the daughter and son.

So that's where that joke comes from. "I've got the 90 bucks right here in my pocket' 'Well, reach in the other pocket and give me 90 days." That's in so many legal story books making out like the author actually said/heard it.

That's what I say, I was watching sha na na and him and his dummy were on there but he was much older so I thought his mouth was moving cause he was getting old. Then I found this when he was younger and he's never been a good ventriloquist cause you see his mouth moving when the dummy is suppose to be talking

On December 12 , 1937 , Edgar and Charlie got in hot water when the sultry Mae West guest - starred on The Chase and Sanborn Hour , exchanging risqué repartee with Charlie and playing Eve , with Don Ameche as Adam , in a ribald version of the Garden of Eden scripted by radio's legendary Arch Oboler . The Federal Communications Commission ( FCC ) and NBC received thousands of letters and phone calls protesting the broadcast , and newspapers called for government censorship of the airwaves . The script had been subjected to a great deal of editing before the broadcast , but the censors apparently hadn't foreseen the effect of Mae West's suggestive delivery . " When she cooed over the air to Charlie Why don't you come up and see me sometime ! ' to which Charlie answered innocently , ' And what would I do ? no one bargained on her reading of the reply , I'd let you play in my woodpile , " wrote Edgar's daughter Candace in her autobiography Knock Wood . “ NBC apologized publicly . Edgar Bergen went into hiding in Palm Springs , and the show's ratings went up two points . "

Cache is great, Haneke very intelligent, but he's not a god. Funny games, for example, served the sadistic audience. (There's no sense in saying "that's how it's supposed to be".) The cut throat scene in cache, too. People aren't shocked, they're fascinated. You can see that here on YT, where, of course, that scene is uploaded so you can watch it over and over again. I also dislike the killing animals for a movie. Yes I do. It says something about you if you're willing to do that. There are brilliant directors who did aweful things like degrading or even harming the actors in most aweful ways. Movies that claim to teach about crime against humanity, crime against children but in fact, in REALITY, harmed them. Kill a chicken is not a big deal in reality, I know. Like everyone I eat them, too. Daily. But if you're willing to say "that animal has to die for my movie, for my art". What else are you willing to do? I don't know, I feel like there's a sadist in most directors.
