Is there any new news on the production?
I'm assuming you are asking about the Koning gloves. The production is on the way and we have done the grading. We will post about the sizes shortly, possibly today.
But when can I get one!!!!
The tools for the injection molds are being made right now. We don't have a final date on delivery yet, though.
Are there any updates on the Koning Nobilis?
Hi, we're waiting for information from the factory and as soon as we have more info we will make a post about it. Unfortunately, there are some indications that there will be delays, but we can't say for sure yet.
@@stmarkfencing thanks for the update. I’m looking forward to the post with more info on the progress. It’s a bummer if there are delays. But that’s how things are. Setting up production of a new product is never a straightforward process. I think most of us agree on that a pair of good gloves are more important than a pair of early gloves.
@@manget9016 Thank you for understanding! The reason behind the possible delay is that we made changes to the plastic inside to increase protection on the side of the fingers and also durability. The company that makes the injection mold tools have indicated they have to push the production since they now have other projects before. So right now it's the frustrating task of just waiting for a slot in production. As soon as we know, we will post about it.
I love what yall are doing overthere!
Thank you! The feelings are mutual, we really appreciated your video on fencing to the bloom!
A very well done HEMA documentary. It was interesting to listen to Simon and Yang's interviews. It's always nice to hear about how someone began their journey into HEMA, or even when their interest to things related to HEMA began. I can relate myself, as one of my oldest memories was watching a sneak peak on tv for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. It was the scene where the fellowship fight in Balin's tomb in Moria. That entire scene was the spark that ignited my interest in fantasy, then history, specifically the Medieval period, all upto becoming the HEMA fencer that I am today. Anders couldn't do more justice to this lovely HEMA event that I would love to participate in one day.
We hope to see you up here one day!
Thank you for your kind words! More things will come in the future.
cant believe this video and channel is so small this is so incredibly well made!
Thank you! We will hopefully grow as we make more content in time.

How does the sizes 6-11 on the size chart translate to the sizes S-XL that are available for the gloves?
Hi, it's a bit unclear, but you follow the column upwards to read the letter sizing.
@@stmarkfencing thanks ☺️!
@@stmarkfencing Hi, I’ve measured my hands circumference to 222 mm and the length to 200 mm. I’m a bit worried that size L will be too short and size XL will be too wide for my hands. How does the size of the original Koning glove compare to the size chart of the new Koning? The original Koning fits my hands fine.
@@manget9016 Hi, the sizing isn't quite ready yet, so if you order you will be able to change sizing later. I would say that the old gloves are a size 9, which equals Large.
Nothing about how they're made on the inside?? How I am supposed to order them without knowing that lol
The Koning has a thick hard plastic shell, with padding underneath.
@@stmarkfencing The plastic covers the top and sides of the fingers? Including full fingertip protection?
@@bluejay4069 All the fingertips are covered, the exposed outsides of the fingers are also covered.
@@stmarkfencing Great thanks !
Will these fit in most complex hilts or bowl guards, like on a sidesword or saber?
Hi, thanks for your comment. That probably depends, both on the sword as well as on the size of your hand. I'll try to get my hands on a as many different variations and make a video about it
It feels like there are more and more good gloves offers popping up. Truly a good and interesting time
Gosh, that bag with the sword mounted on it is just lovely.
Glad you like it! It's called the Gesell bag. We're currently updating the leather, so any bag ordered from now on will have a slightly different look. We'll update the photos on the site as soon as possible of course.
One of the biggest problems from the original version was that while they were very protective, the plates inside the glove would shift over time until eventually the protectiveness in different spots had been effectively reduced to nothing, but because the plates cannot be seen from the outside, people were unaware of this until they took extremely nasty hand injuries. Has the problem of the shifting plates been rectified?
Thank you for your comment and I'm sorry you experienced an issue with the old gloves. In this version, all plates are attached in a completely different system which should keep the plates secure. However, I must naturally also provide the caveat that any equipment will fail at some point and that hidden faults can exist in any piece of equipment, especially after some use. That's just the nature of things. I use my original Konings after 8 years, and they are still good. After the first release, we asked for and got reports from our customers who sustained injuries while wearing the gloves, and they were VERY rare especially given how many gloves we produced and how long they've been around. But again, truly sorry you experienced this issue.
My old Koning glove can be Retired. Ordered and looking forward.
Awesome!
Cool to see it getting revised. Nathan has been using his for years. If I get back to sparring I'll need to get some new gloves so these are looking good.
Synd att den just är svart då den sticker ut för de som vill Historiskt återskapa 😂 men å andra sidan finns det bättre alternativ på marknaden idag för de som nöjer sig med skal handskar. Lädret i original versionen var alldeles för känsligt på insidan. Gick sönder i princip direkt.
I have two of the old brown models that are still hanging in, Im placing a pre order immediately.
blablabla just show us how it's made inside
Also true!
Ordered!
It looks really good, I'm ordering, is the sizing based on the one shown for the old Koning glove?
The sizing chart is now updated on the site! We may have to adjust the sizing once we receive the final grading though, but we'll communicate any requirements for changing sizes in that case .
Looks great!
Thank you!
When will they be back in stock?
We are expecting a smaller batch soon, to fill instant demand and backorders. And there will be a larger batch in December, most likely.
Change the title to 'Condottiere Light Gloves for Fencing', for attracting more viewers.
Thank you, good advice!
Any particular reason you gus stopped producing these? They look great.
Thank you, we stopped making them due to production challenges and we had new ideas for solutions. Now we've caught up with everything and there will be news shortly.
And in black! Good looking mask St Mark!
Given how beaten up the swords are here, you know for sure that's not how they fought or dueled before. Ancient steel wouldn't handle that. A lot of modern interpretations of HEMA are wrong, given the metallurgical clues.
it's not really ancient though. we're talking 400-600 years, depending on school and tradition, and my guess is that the steel could handle it fine. even if it couldn't, I'm sure it could be replaced. easier than replacing knights.
@@gordonlekfors2708 for context, i'm a bladesmith, i've done a fair amount of research on old blades and ancient metallurgy, and while after the second half of the 14th century, steel got significantly better (before that, most blades weren't tempered at all), seeing how much their blades flex in the video tells me it's probably too much, their sword would bend or break. Why? Beacause nowadays hema swords are made from modern crucible spring steel with improves toughness (45si7, 55si7, 5160...). Basically they will take a beating without consequences, where a blade made from folded steel won't like that at all, ESPECIALLY if the Smith is anything short of a master (i've been reading a blacksmithing book from the late 1700s, and only the best cutlers seem to really take the time to evaluate the carbon content of each part of the steel bars they buy, how they should be quenched, not to let the grains grow etc. When i practiced hema, we were using la fior di battaglia of Fiore, where he explicitly says "if your opponent lets his sword too low on the ground, you can step on it to block it, wich will bend it such that he wouldn't be able to sell it afterwards". I know Ian from That Works thinks ancient steel wouldn't survive a modern hema practice, and therefore they must have used their swords differently. Of course damaging your blade is fine as long as you survive, but there it would result in a broken blade, and therefore death.
@@jeanladoire4141 Thank you for your interesting points. Since I am actually a blacksmith originally myself, I take great pleasure in talking about this stuff. The metallurgy today is of course a lot better than historically, but when looking at historical swords you will see a lot of flex in them. The surviving feders (similar to the feders used here) are actually a lot thinner, especially at the end, and far more flexible for the most part. The problem with them, for our use, is that they are actually a lot whippier than modern reconstructions. And the reason for that is that they had to have lower mass since people wore less protective gear.
@@stmarkfencing interesting. Did they show bites and dents across the blade? What was the carbon content/temper? I know i made one of my first swords from low grade mild steel, but beacause it was somewhat work hardened, it had quite a lot of spring and flexibility to it (but of course striking anything hard with the edge would leave a big dent)
@@jeanladoire4141 I don't have the carbon content, not sure if someone has looked at that for the feders. Several have marks from parries though, but I haven't really looked into how dented they are. Dents are very common in sharp swords though. If you look for the video where Adam Savage visits the MET there's one famous example of a Feder that he looks at there and you can see some very typical dents that you'd see in a modern Feder too. He also flexes one of the swords, although not the Feder and they talk about how many of the swords are very flexible and thin. You are right though, we know that metallurgy could be tricky back in the day and that swords broke. There are quite a few accounts of that. But of course, a lot of the swords that survive in collections/museums are either high quality ones (that's why they survived) or earth finds that have been degraded by nature. So it's often not easy to say exactly what was typical.
Nice
Hello,is this St Mark Condottieri Glove suitable for the sidesword sparring or saber sparring? Was it possible that my hands to be injured or seriously injured with this sort of gloves for sidesword sparring or saber sparring?
We would not recommend to use the Condottiere for full-force sparring with heavier weapons, such as a sabre or sidesword. There is always a risk of sustaining an injury when fencing with swords or doing martial arts, regardless of equipment, so you must be responsible for your safety. The Condottiere offer more protection than other rapier gloves that we've seen on the market. So they can be used for controlled drilling and light sparring with heavier weapons. But to be clear, if you receive a hard blow from a heavy sabre on your hand, you run the risk of injury.
Name of the hymn?
It’s in the description.
K, now put it on a woman.
Ahhh. That looks great.
