How To Use UWorld To Ace STEP 1 and STEP 2 (260+) | Harvard Medical Student Advice
Today, I go over the details on how I set up my screen to efficiently go through UWorld and ace USMLE STEP 1 and STEP 2. I’ll talk about my actual screen setup, my UWorld settings, and how I toggle between anki and Uworld to work efficiently. For context, I have a 34 inch monitor, so if your monitor doesn’t have as much space, you may need to re-size some of the windows for this method to work. I hope this helps, and as always- work hard and good luck!

    Hey, I don't understand what you would typically be looking for in the browse function (little context-I've never used Anki before, but it helped going through a couple of small decks like Duke and Pepper before step 1). Let's say you got a question incorrect about Staph superantigen-so what would you add in the browse section, and what extra info would you make a card out of? Could you please explain with an example?

    • @Navigatingmedicalschool
      @Navigatingmedicalschool 2 месяца назад

      Yeah, for that I would go to browse and type in "superantigen" and look for any relevant cards that highlight the key learning point, but if none are satisfactory, then I would make my own card based on Uworld!

  • @nived8476

    When you talk about your UWrold self assessment grades are those the "Assessment Scores" that UWorld calculates using their proprietary algorithm or is it their Approximate 3 digit score? Either way I don't understand why UWorld gives those score if 1) they don't disclose how they're calculated and what factors are considered in the algorithm and 2) if they say they're not intended to actually predict performance. Seems like they're actually a waste of money considering that the score have no practical relevance.

    • @Navigatingmedicalschool
      @Navigatingmedicalschool 3 месяца назад

      I'm referring to the scores that they generate on UWorld. They aren't entirely predictive of your true test scores, but they are still good practice!

  • @bbgggg123

    Very informative video! Quick question, going through 2 blocks in 4 hours meant you took one hour to do the block and one hour to review. Can you expand on how you reviewed the block that quickly. I understand you took anki cards. Did you read the whole explanation (including the wrong answers) and make an anki card on your incorrects?

    • @Navigatingmedicalschool
      @Navigatingmedicalschool 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the question! I would do the questions in "tutor mode", i.e. it would give me the answer after every question. 30s-1 min per question + 1-2 min to review the right answer before moving to the next question means I was able to go through each question in about 3-4 minutes. If I got the answer right/remembered the answer from my shelf exam studying, I wouldn't spend any time on it. I got ~70-75% correct, so I would only spend 3-4 minutes on the incorrects (~10 questions per block), and quickly review the rest. This allowed me to get through efficiently.

      Hey there! I think the most important thing you can do right now is expose yourself to the field as much as possible. Shadow doctors in internal medicine, medical sub specialties, surgery, anesthesiology, etc if you can. Also shadow in different settings such as the hospital, an outpatient clinic, and the emergency room. Obviously you might not get to see it all, but as much as possible should give you a good idea if the field is good for you!
