Railfan Coast to Coast
Добавлен 10 июл 2023
Hey there, just a bit about myself. I've been a railfan/foamer since I was about 12 years old. I started recording trains in the late 80's. My early videos were primarily recorded on VHS in Muskegon MI, Grand Rapids MI and Porter Indiana. I have recorded thousands of videos over the years throughout the USA and Germany. I just recently decided to start uploading them to RUclips. Looking back through my library, it's amazing the amount of rail history that I've captured. I will continue to upload my video collection. I hope you enjoy this channel and subscribe.

Awesome videos 👍🏻
April, 2007. Right before the housing bubble burst and the economy went into the toilet.
That was The Great Recession that took place between December 2007 and June 2009.
@@zacharycalgher3978 Yep. Right around when this video was filmed (early April, 2007), mortgage brokers who had invested heavily in subprime loans were starting to collapse. Most of the rest of the country was still in the dark, or willfully ignorant.
That high hood 38 was really making some noise on Otis hill, nice catches bro 👍🏻
Thanks man. I appreciate you watching.
More fantastic trains my friend, love it 👍🏻
2:58 Interesting red gondola. I can't read the name though. Also interesting the ethanol train that followed using a gondola for a buffer car.
16:30 beautiful K5LA horn
Ironically I posted a video of how it looks today haha. Great shots from the past. PSR really killed it.
Oh nice. I haven't been there in awhile. I will check out your video. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you are enjoying them.
@@Railfancoasttocoast thanks I appreciate it, you didn't have to 😅
Not sure PSR has impacted the NS west of Elkhart very much. Perhaps more so east of the city. I think traffic levels now are probably comparable to 2007.
@davidolnhausen7282 believe me man, we just had a 54K stall out because they decided one unit (C6M) could pull a 130000ft grain train up a 2.4% grade. They had 2 trailing units but they were in isolate. The conductor was walking back to the second unit when we passed the crossing. Didn't seem to happy with his engineer.
Both of these shortlines unfortunately arent really colorful anymore now that they're owned by Genesee and Wyoming. Idk why they force their color scheme onto other railroads.
I know what you mean. It's a little boring seeing the same paint job on all the short lines.
That Amtrak switcher was awesome 👏 nice catch 👍🏻
Thanks buddy. That was an awesome site.
Great footage definitely a bygone era of railroading!
Thank you very much. I'm glad you're enjoying them. I wish I would have video taped more back in the 80's and 90's. Thanks for watching.
Great catch!
New York Central main line. Can't beat it.
There's me at 04:38 !
I can’t get enough of your footage, such great stuff you don’t see around anymore!
Thank you very much. I'm glad you're enjoying them. Every year, there was less and less low noses and high hoods. Thanks for watching.
Fantastic videos 💯👍🏻
Awesome first shot. Brings me back to a more colorful time
I guess it makes sense that those BNSF ES-series locomotives were painted into H2 paint because they were ordered before they switched to the (ugly) swoosh logo. It's interesting to see how things changed over time.
The BNSF Swoosh logo is not ugly, it’s beautiful.
😊😊 super,.. Classic train and dizel lokomotive EMD 😊😊.. super recording.
NS CN
Fantastic videos 💯👍🏻
Thank you my kind Sir.
do ppl in south bend miss pothole pete?
I am not sure who he is?
Another fantastic RUclips bro, love it
Was that a viewing platform or pedestrian bridge you're standing on at Altoona? I used to watch my Horseshoe Curve Pentrex VHS as a kid a lot and they were filming from that same spot in 1989, I think.
53:36 That's one heavy centerbeam.
That was pretty funny to see that.
Nice video, those 80 MACs were amazing 👏
Thanks for this video. Great to see more SD40-2 s again!
Your welcome. I know what you mean. I love those sd40-2's. Thanks for watching.
These trains have more variety in the power than a Big Mac has calories.
Looks very busy. I wonder how many of these trains disappeared as a result of PSR.
3:40: My favorite shortline railroad engines! Do you have any videos of the GR #3839 in Muskegon? I love them both!
I don't have to many videos of the 3839. They were hard to catch with my work schedule.
I haven't seen, or heard one of these trains come up here to Packaging Corporation of America in Manistee (Stronach), MI in forever...
They are in there every day. I'm a trucker that goes in there often and the facility is full of boxcars coming and going daily...
@@bryanlosen3262 I drove OTR as an O/O from 1990 to 2005 myself
Holy moly, early Central Michigan! Great shots!
Why the sudden slow down on the coal train going east from Wyoming yard?
In the grand scheme of things, it really wasn't that long ago, but there was still so much good stuff running on Class 1 out there. Cooler shortline schemes too... I see MMRR is still operating, but their power is the generic orange/black/yellow scheme now.
Yuck. I hate Genesee and Wyoming paint job
where is the track crossing at 2:19 i dont recall there ever being one
That crossing is in Muskegon Heights. It's not there anymore.
@@Railfancoasttocoast is that by broadway and 6th or park st and w barney ave
Grand Rapids Eastern engines were cool to see…
Hey great video it was nice to see the B40-8 and the GP30 trailing on the BNSF intermodal. thank you
5:20 flip phone ringtone?
Yes, an old Nextel phone. I loved the walkie talkie feature. Thanks for watching.
Very nice video. Lots of stuff you don’t see anymore. Great catch of the factory fresh ES40DC and nice horn on NS 9148. I remember seeing those ES40DCs in primer paint circa 05-06.
Thank you very much. I'm glad you are enjoying them. Thanks for watching.
Awesome footage of Pine junction buddy, love it
Awesome trains dude, love it
14:36 about the most nostalgic sound for me since this was about my earliest era of railfanning as a kid. (Fun fact, I also managed to catch 9557 multiple times through the years.) NS Dash 9s ruled the rails at the time... and still do, just mostly as rebuilds now.
Amtrak 😊😊👍🚂
👍👏 super recording 👍, 🚂 dizel lokomotive..Great job.
14:28 Nice
Killer stuff from 2006... Question: Any idea on what that oddball car with the end of train device on it was @8:46 ? Never saw one of those before... Thx.
@@backalleyrailroading2835 That is a scale car. They use it to test their scales. I'm not sure exactly how they work.
@@Railfancoasttocoast Very interesting.. Thanks for the schooling !!
Great job 👏
Fantastic catches 👍🏻
Thanks man. That was a fun trip
Awesome!
@@ohiorailfann124 Thank you for watching
Awesome catch, great power 👍🏻
Thanks man, I was at the right place at the right time.
Beautiful shot and location... Love the local action !!
@backalleyrailroading2835 Thanks backalley. Hudsonville is a beautiful area to watch trains. The only bad thing is that there is not a lot of train traffic going through.
