DOMINIC FIKE NYC POP-UP CONCERT + VISITING NYC WITH THE HOMIES | Summer highlights 2023 Ep. 1
Sooo…I met Dominic Fike!!! I definitely didn't expect my summer starting off with seeing Euphoria’s Dominic Fike in New York City nor did I expect a surprise Dominic Fike concert at a coffee shop in NYC, but I guess you never know what's in store for you! With this New York City summer highlights travel Vlog 2023 I decided I wanted to kick off a little 2023 summer travel vlog series to document the highlights of my summer travels in 2023. I know everyone has their ups and downs and I definitely had mine this summer, but that's also exactly why I wanted to make this series a travel highlight reel focusing on the positives so that I'm both able to document the funny experiences I had this s...

    Hi, Zelda! Is it ok for me to do something that's no longer part of the syllabus?

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite Месяц назад

      I mean I'm not an IB coordinator or anything and so to be honest I don't really know in this context. I would generally speaking say though that if it was part of the syllabus at any point in time your topic is probably not broad or extensive enough to warrant a full IA topic and I would generally speaking steer very clear of any such experiments just because the IB can score you very very low if you do anything similar to the experiments that they used to do or well at least currently do, so just to be safe I would kind of steer past the experiments that they used to do and just try and find other experiments. I mean there are so many different ones out there that I'm sure you can find another topic without too much searching that would just negate that risk.

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite Месяц назад

      I will however say your topic doesn't have to be super different for example if you're talking about them using an experiment using catalase you can literally just use any other enzyme and that's totally different enough to be sufficient for your IA. It really doesn't have to be crazy complicated, so if you're talking in terms of a topic like that then feel free to do something similar just be very careful about the exact experiments that are prescribed by the syllabus, because even if your school doesn't teach those to you (even though they should) you will get marked down and that has happened in the past for certain students that didn't experience those teachings at their schools and didn't know that kind of information.

    • @HadassahNemalikanti
      @HadassahNemalikanti Месяц назад

      Thank you so much! It's just that we're seriously running out of time with the IA thing and because of the new syllabus my teacher didn't know it wasn't part of it anymore. I was gonna do the Winkler method and water salinity 😭 but we talked about an alternative idea which is like hand or knife splitting effects the dose distribution in a tablet, but idk how I feel about that one

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite 29 дней назад

      Oh man, that sounds super frustrating. I'm sorry you're dealing with that! Worst case scenario, you can always do some sort of enzyme experiment and simply measure how enzymes respond to different conditions (temp., enyzme concentration, substrate concentration, etc.) because afaik that's always part of the syllabus and you can calculate the activation energy required or there's a couple other ways that you can connect it to the syllabus. These kind of experiments work super well because you can find enzymes in just about any biological system i.e. even if your school is broke and doesn't have money to buy purified enzymes, you can derive the enzyme from bovine meat for example or other kinds of meats or plants. Depending on whatever enzyme you're focusing on you would simply have to choose the correct meat or plant that has a high concentration of that specific enzyme. If you did do this, though, you should make sure that your write up is really good because these topics are done quite frequently, so any kind of mistakes that are made, or quite likely to be noticed very easily.

      @@zeldawaite Hi, Zelda! I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your help. I don't know why, but every IA idea I tell my teacher about, they seem to disapprove of (temperature on buffer capacity, different catalysts on a reaction and they're also telling me enzymes are too biology for a chemistry IA). I've ran out of time and they've made me do the tablet splitting one, but honestly I don't know how good I can make it. I don't even know what type of background info I can add for it. If you have any advice, I'd love to hear it, but you've already helped a lot, so again, this is mainly just a thank you. :)

    Super helpful video! I only have one question; is the citation of secondary articles (journals, etc.) absolutely necessary for a top grade? I can only find a couple of journals about what I'm writing, and a lot of my analysis doesn't relate to them. I have included a couple of these points, though it's only 1 or 2 across the whole paper. How else do you recommend I score high for criterion C? Thanks :)

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite Месяц назад

      Thanks for watching, I appreciate the feedback! :) I'm not an IB grader so I can't give you a definite answer by any means. However, I think another method if you're struggling to find journals specifically is perhaps looking into newspaper articles or commentaries on your work written in book reviews (ensure they're credible newspapers though or reputable literary critics). Naturally the less famous your work is the more difficult time you're going to have finding secondary materials, it is nevertheless very important to do this so I do think it would be worth your time. Keep in mind you can still score a top score by losing several points you just want to make sure that among all of your categories you don't lose too many points. If you really can't find anything relating to it, then perhaps, consider taking the loss of the points in that category and just make sure that you perfect everything else which could still get you a top grade. That being said that shouldn't be your first choice and if you even found two articles I would try and find the one or two quotes in those journals that correspond at least in some capacity to what you're writing about and figure out a way to integrate them, which it sounds like you did. Remember quantity is not quality so even if it's only two or three quotes but those are highly relevant that's much better than you just drizzling 10 or 20 other quotes that are completely irrelevant into your paper. I don't remember since it's so long ago that I wrote my paper but I think in my entire paper I also only had something under 4-5 quotes of external articles but they were relevant which is what mattered. If you only have two across the whole paper but they're relevant I think that's probably ok. The point is you're trying to illustrate that you can critically think about someone else's work and as long as the two quotes are sufficiently used to do that I think you should be fine. ---sry for the ramble and not sure how helpful this is but good luck!!!

    i know im really late to this video, but my question is "How does Magaret Mitchell develop the theme of grief, and how does she establish it as both an inhibitor and catalyst for change in her book Gone with the Wind?" and i was wondering if you think this is a clear and focused enough research question...i have 2 weeks till my first draft is due and I'm still debating on what my question should be :,)

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite Месяц назад

      Hey sorry for the late reply I didn't see this earlier. My bad :/ Research questions are often only finalized at the very end once you've written your entire paper, so I wouldn't be too concerned about it yet. I think your starting question is pretty good the one thing I would say is that what you mean with an inhibitor versus a catalyst is somewhat unclear from your research question itself and to be honest I think you could literally stop your question after "How does Margaret Mitchell develop the theme of grief in her book Gone with the Wind?" Personally, I think that's a solid question that you can delve into and in your research process there's likely to be some sort of pattern that emerges in terms of how she represents grief which you could later on integrate into the research question, but that's just my personal take. I've never actually read the book, so I don't know too much about it, but those are my "off the top of my head" thoughts. Not sure how helpful that is but good luck!

    Great video! <3 Do you know where I can find subject reports?

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite 6 месяцев назад

      Hey, thank you for watching! The subject reports used to be publicly available on r/ibo alongside free past papers, however, the IB filed a legal complaint forcing them to take it down, so the cheapest way, you can access them now (unless some other platform has managed to collect them and upload them of which I have no knowledge) is asking your school IB coordinator. All coordinators (and often teachers) should have access to a copy of the IB subject reports for each exam session. Nevertheless, many IB coordinators won't release these to their students for whatever reason or they will only discuss certain things mentioned in them during the classes they teach. Your best chance afaik now is just to go and ask them for access because the worst they can say is no. Edit: I did a quick Google search and it seems like at the moment at least some of the subject reports are available on this website for free: other-resources.papacambridge.com/other-resources/ib/ib-subject-reports . Be aware that all of the 3rd party websites publishing these documents could (and likely eventually will) be forced to take them down by the IBO through legal actions, as the copyright for these papers belongs to the IBO. For whatever reason IBO has been trying harder in the last few years to remove these documents/ past papers (probably because they want to make extra money by selling them), which is also why r/ibo was forced to take them down. Therefore, if you need/ want copies for multiple classes I'd download all of the ones that you want immediately just so that you have them in case they do shut down the websites.

    I have a question, can we do an experiment that's be done before as long as it's not plagiarized and it's our own work. I'm doing - Impact of Age on Reaction Time to Visual Stimulus But also, yk control variables right?, so um do people's characteristics like race, or skin color? Will have to be controlled or can it be anY?

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite 7 месяцев назад

      Hey, yes you can but as mentioned in the video the more frequently the topic has been done the more likely it is that an examiner will immediately spot any errors because they already know which common errors they're looking for that students often make. On the flipside the advantage to it, is that often it will be much easier to find secondary sources and gather information which leaves you more time to perfect the actual experimental write up which is ultimately what you're graded on. Regarding your second question, control variables are any kind of variable that could impact the results of your data and should therefore remain constant. For example, if I was instead measuring the relationship between blood pressure and age I would want to control for caffeine intake because it raises blood pressure and will affect the metric that I'm measuring (i.e. my dependent variable blood pressure) but I wouldn't care and therefore wouldn't have to control any other medication's or anything they're using unless they also affect the dependent variable as well (I hope that example made sense and didn't confuse you more sorry if it did). While the examples you mentioned of race and skin color are sometimes useful control variables for experiments, they are only going to be useful if the dependent variable you are looking at will change as a result of someone's skin color or race. Lmk if you have any follow up questions and I'll try to answer whatever I can, but I hope this made things a little more clear for you.

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite Год назад

      Hey thanks for watching and sorry that this is a little delayed! It's a solid topic, however you are going to run into the problem that this topic is done extremely frequently (as in one of the most frequently done topics) and hence any error you make will likely immediately be downgraded. I think you would likely be better off chosing an enzyme and vary the temperature with that as it will likely give you a similar data set to analyze in terms of it's connection to the IB syllabus reaction rate. If you do this topic make sure you quadruple check your IA as seriously anything that is erranous or left out will be immediately recognized as examiners have likely seen the same experiment as an IA many many times and therefore know what should/ shouldn't be included.

      Hey I've only ever tried the Rombaut shoes in this video but based on those overall I absolutely love mine! They did take some time to walk in but they are so comfortable and I remeber also thinking that the first time I tried them on. If you are getting the boots I will say the ankle can be a little tight depending on how thick the socks are that you wear/ your own anatomy but it's not crazy tight and can probably be fixed with thinner socks. Tbh I don't notice breathability too much myself but I definitely don't feel that my feet have overheated or anything similar even when I wear them in hot weather.

    Do racer jackets fit true to size? They look kinda big. Does the weather need to be cold to wear them?

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite Год назад

      Hey! My jackets I all purposefully purchased oversize which is why they are significantly too big and also why tbh I can't give you a completely accurate answer to your first question. Having seen some of the smaller fitting jackets though I do think that they are designed to be a little big and loose fitting so I'd say there is a good chance you could size down and be completely fine (obviously varies by brand somewhat though). Regarding your second question, no. I wore mine in 30+°C and I was relatively fine. That being said, for me, it was also benefitted by the oversize fit allowing a draft of air (if that makes any sense lol) and I would still say it's more of a spring temp. kinda clothing piece.

      Hey, my page size is A4 with narrow margins. When I was doing my IA I also didn’t find anything but I’m almost entirely certain I didn’t have any points deducted for the format I used and if so it was max 1 point. If you do change margins make sure to submit it as a PDF tho bc a lot of ppl forget this and when others download their work the format gets totally messed up with words cut off etc. and that will lead to communication mark deductions but other than that I’m pretty sure a4 narrow margins is completely fine.

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite Год назад

      In theory you don't have restrictions as long as you work within the relevant safety parameters. Typically any antibiotic experiments have to be done in a safety regulated lab i.e. typically a university or company research lab, so if you have access to that probably, if not I would highly advise against it. Also if you do chose to work with antibiotics you should definitely read up on the safety guidelines regarding working with microbes/ antibiotics because even if you work in a safety regulated lab there are several other guidelines you ought to follow (ex. reducing the antibiotic disks you use to only the necessary ones, incubation temperatures, etc.)

    Hello thank you for your video! Was hoping for some advice. 1 am just starting out on my chemistry lA and was thinking of doing "What is the optimal concentration of hydrogen peroxide in honey to inhibit the growth of specific types of mold and which type of honey (where it is from) tends to be the most antibacterial? Please let me know what you think and how I can make it more challenging.

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite Год назад

      Hey nw hope it helped :) Tbh your general research idea is quite interesting, however there are a few things I would be mildly concerned about. Firstly, usually if you're working with types of molds or organisms you're required to also be able to identify the kind of mold/ organism which can be somewhat difficult as you can't necessarily control the kind of mold that grows on your plates unless you have incredibly sterile environments. I'm not entirely sure if this applies to the chemistry as well, but it definitely does to the biology IA. Considering your topic heavily centers on biology I would assume that you probably have to be able to properly identify the species but that's something I'm not too familiar with to be honest. Also, if you did continue with this research question, which definitely has a good amount of secondary sources you'll be able to access, you should definitely watch out that you don’t fall into the trap of focusing too much on biology. At the end of the day you are trying to write a chemistry IA meaning that you should definitely focus significantly more on any sort of chemical reactions that occur between the hydrogen peroxide and the inhibition of growth, so if you do end up choosing this topic I would try restricting your discussion of whatever mold/ bacteria you are working with to maybe one max 2 paragraphs in the intro and focus the rest of your introduction on the chemical reactions taking place/ how those relate to the syllabus. I'm not sure anything here was very helpful but I hope something helps!

    Hi Zelda! Thank you so much for the video ❤. I am writing my Bio IA at the moment. I conducted data from students which was their reaction time and I have one question. Should I still write the Health & Waste Disposal part? Also, do you have to in-text cite / footnote your sources?

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite Год назад

      Hey, you should always write a health & waste disposal part, just in your case, it will likely center more around how you kept the participants safe and considered ethics in your research. You do have to in-text cite, but you don't need to footnote on each page as far as I know, however, I would double-check with your teacher. Most research papers use some type of numbering system, where you superscript or subscript the sources with numbers and then number your citation at the end. The method differs slightly based on what specific citation format you use, but I would recommend looking at some research papers to see what I mean in case my description wasn't clear enough. This method is personally my favorite, as it saves space, but if your teacher is grading your IAs this year, then I would try to follow what they instuct.

    • @zeldawaite
      @zeldawaite 2 года назад

      Hey, there used to be a website that offered them for free (ibdocuments.com), but the IBO took them down, so I would recommend either asking or continuously checking to see if other websites that share PPQs have them and if they do I would recommend making a copy for yourself immediately, as the IB will likely eventually make them take it down for copyright infringement. Alternatively, you can ask your teachers. Every school receives a copy annually, however, not all teachers are willing to share it--always worth asking though.
