Looking back at this Vegeta had 3 goals that seemed to be in conflict; To be a super saiyan, to be better than goku, and to be the best/strongest... But being a super saiyan doesn't mean you'll be better than goku, and being better than goku doesn't mean you'll be the strongest or that you'll be a super saiyan, and being the strongest doesn't mean you'll eventually be a super saiyan(we saw that in a what if story, if you played the game)... The moment where he snapped is the moment he threw those goals away for the sake of improvement... and then BAM... it happened

Vegeta was not pure of heart and did not have as peaceful of life as Goku and others did. For him to achieve supersayian was for him to move only by will.
