@Sawdust and Sweat NC Helping Others! Work! Spending every moment possible in the great outdoors! And lastly but most importantly, Attemping to live faithfully and fulfill my life's purpose! My trade and passion is working with wood. My background is construction. Family, fishing, hunting, and travel are all special delights. Family, of course, being my priority. Owning my own bandsaw has been a dream for many years. This past year this dream was realized. Now, to have virtually unlimited wood resources, where builds are no longer limited by what can be afforded at the box store, a new world has opened up. As most of you, the responsibilities of life have not allowed time for undertaking suppressed dreams. Now, the good Lord has allowed time, opportunity, and resources, to wake up some of those dreams and get busy. I would appreciate it if you join me as I pursue an investment of time in sharing work, life, and living, in the world I am passionate about.
Acheiving Objectives At The Sawmill Or Not?
@SawdustandSweatNC one of our joys of life, at this stage of life, is owning and operating our own personal bandsaw sawmill. Although, having spent a lifetime working with wood, the process of turning logs into lumber is still a relatively new adventure. I continue to learn, with every milling session, things I like and things perhaps I feel can make the process more efficient and enjoyable. In this episode, i'm adding another upgrade which appears to be well worth the minimal time and effort it required to make. Join me will ya?

They're so big and heat so hot in the middle. I used mine twice and never touched it again
Hey, thanks for commenting. As they say, different strokes for different folks. I understand where you are coming from however. But I really do enjoy mine. I am probably going to be putting casters on in the near future. Thanks again
That’s a brilliant setup you got going on. Nice!
Thanks!
my favorite song love you john
Thanks
I see a watch on your wrist. Does it track your steps? I bet you walk a lot everyday.
No ma'am, I've always worn the cheapest Timex money can buy. Not that I'm that cheap, it's just something I've always done. Thanks for being so observant.
And yes, I have no idea how many steps. Fewer than 20 years ago I guess, but probably a good deal more than most. I am extremely blessed and fortunate to have good health, strength, and good genes. These are things we should never take for granted, but unfortunately most of us do until they're gone.
@@SawdustandSweatNC it would be interesting to see how many steps you take a day.
Do you keep track of your steps?
@@SawdustandSweatNC I do. I have an Apple Watch.
That Wal-Mart water don't even have water in it.
Ya think?
Not seniors everyone. They put five different var codes on everything now
@zactillett9820 I know, right!!
Are the stickers 1x1 inch
Yes, at least one way is 1", some have some wain on one side, no biggie
@@SawdustandSweatNC ok 👍 thanks
Great video I was thinking you may need a small wedge on the back side of the log bunks so the log won’t roll off back toward your equipment i’m not saying to do that. I just thought that might be safer. You could also put two logs up and you wouldn’t have to get the skid steer and load it ever then roll one over. Keep the other on the log bunk
Good ideas, thanks
hard work makes a hard man which makes easy work, which makes an easy man which makes hard work… keep working America . We don't have a choice.
TV24--get it?
That looks like a job well done.
Thank you.
Now that is a shirt love the color. I’m shifting all my battery operated tools to Dewalt. I’m doing it in stages because they cost thousands of dollars to get what you need. Oh by the way, you’re doing good for an old timer doing push-ups. Keep her going.😊
My bride said I had to get it so I did. Yeah, I'm DeWalt all the way.
I like it too. Especially if you like it. 😊
Yes, anything which helps eliminate or reduce lifting is a good thing.
@@SawdustandSweatNC working smarter not harder!
That looks pretty bad. Hopefully not to much damage?
All good so far. But really intense!
❤ love. Watching your video I really like it and can't take my eyes off it
Thank you. Glad you enjoy sawmilling.
@@SawdustandSweatNC yes ❤️ greetings from Viet Nam ❤️❤️
@@Thuy_girldailylife Hope you have subscribed and will invite your friends and family to do the same. Thank you
I like the bridge too
Thanks!
Great content as always. Keep up the good work! Also what blades are you using.
Whatever Robert, at Keene Saw & Supply in White Ga. Suggested and sent me. They have a tempered tooth, look just like the Ripper 37's. I think they are general purpose 10 deg. But I would have to check with Robert on this. All I know for sure is, I've been blown away by how many logs this blade in the vid has gone through and I believe it has at least one more session in it before sharpening. Ant thanks for the encouragement and comment.
Awesome 👏 video friend. Love the audience clapping sometimes quite funny. You sure do sweat hence your name.
We are running about 90% humidity these days. Pretty sure watermelons sweat in the fields. It's not so much the heat as it is the humidity. Plus, as you can see, my set up is surrounded by trees so little breeze to provide any relief. Take care, and keep singing your songs.
@@SawdustandSweatNC yeah we have humidity here as well, but not as bad as you guys you guys are tough down south from a different cloth, rugged tough and thank you for listening to my channel. You’re a good man props to your video person. I take it. It must be your wife she does good.
@eastcoastcabinfever Thanks.
Sure looks like you're getting things figured out. 👍
@@richardferster8049 Yeah, I just watched it and thought, you know, I'm getting close to very little lifting. Thanks for the observation. Appreciate it.
That looks really good!
Thank you.
Growing things is so neat.
Sorry for not responding sooner, just now saw you, yes, I am of the thinking everyone would be happier and healthier if they grew something, especially something they could harvest a fruit or veg. from. It just makes me smile when I can go out and get me a hot pepper to eat with dinner. I love picking tomato's for my bride, our kids, and neighbors.
That’s a good way to go through each day.
Yay for objectives accomplished!
Yes, even the simple ones.
Great Video old buddy. I have a similar operation in South Mississippi. Couldn’t agree with you more. In fact you would be blessed to have a pine log sit on the ground waiting to milled beyond 6months worth anything. I cut my on trees and mill them as needed. Always look forward to your videos!! Have a blessed day.
Thank you Craig. Always appreciate your feedback.
i did not know Log had an expiry on them maybe put them in your freezer last longer? 😡 i have an industry sawmill my log decks have 10 year's supply of logs on them what the rush
Soft woods like pine will decay and become infested rarely quick in the Southern portion of the US. Old timers would float them in lakes where they would last much longer, I don't know how long. But I do know, pine off the stump where I live better be milled within a year give or take depending on yard conditions. I claim no expertise on logging, just going off my experience.
10 year supply at an industrial sawmill would be somewhere around 10 million tons of logs on the yard. If you're mill has 10 million tons of decks you probably operate one of the largest, if not the largest milling operations in the world. Wow, I'm honored that you would take the time to comment on an old man's one man operation.
Jennifer, I know you are simply pulling my leg, so to speak. Anyone who does not know Sawn logs have a life expectancy after being cut knows basically nothing about the timber industry. I do appreciate you communicating and commenting I just hope you will always be honest with me and this channel. Thanks
mmm good thing it was not engineered by the British but the failure point was made by an American?
So where do you see a failure point my friend?
With so much negativity in the world that is positively good work
@@jerrydeveau4738 Thanks Jerry. And amen!
I assume you first had the tracks perfectly straight. I am struggling to get mine straight. I have taken it apart and readjusted, but still not good. Ideas? Great vid. thanks
May I ask, and I sincerely want to understand.....when you use the word straight are you referring to level, up and down or straight as a gun barrel if you looked from one end to the other down the side of a rail?
And yes, i followed mfg. Assembly instructions and it milled satisfactory for several, several milling sessions and several logs. But now, I did put some really heavy logs on the mill. Again, yes, she was level, straight, and I did not check it early on, but I had assumed the blade was true to the rails and bunks.
@@SawdustandSweatNC The track has a low spot where two side pieces connect. I've tried to get it better but can't seem to. Maybe I didn't loosen enough bolts. If you lay a 6 foot level over it the track is definitely down.
@lukefisher7618 It's challenging as you know, but I feel you will get it worked out as I did. Yes, perhaps you need to loosen more bolts, perhaps put a bottle jack under the low area, perhaps try to see if you have larger diameter bolts so there is no play in the holes, perhaps even sleeving a bolt or two as you re tighten. ......I had the opposite issue with a hump in my rail. I spray painted where the hump was as a visual gage so I could readily see when I was making progress with my adjustment measures. You will get it. Good on you for caring about the issue and not being content with "Poor Quality Cuts." Keep me posted on your progress.
@@SawdustandSweatNC Thanks for your advice. Will let you know.
Better than 90% of the work you’ll see from most stone masons

That’s your story and you’re sticking to it. I believe you’re right.
Absolutely! Have a great day my friend!

@@SawdustandSweatNC Thanks for takin the time to read and reply plus for having a sense of humor. Like you I have seen "something" in the woods but in west Tennessee south of Jackson, Tn near Henderson where I went to college. Close to where the movie "Walking Tall" was filmed. Less than a mile from the White House used for Buford Pusser's parent's house. It was where the Tennessee River bottoms are. Those river bottoms run from Memphis to that area all the way to less than a mile from our house in SE Tennessee.... Sorry. TMI but PTSD and me get carried away. I did not try to harm what we saw. We bein my room mate and 3 or 4 more folks from my dorm. Made a plaster cast of a foot print. Don't know what happened to it. That was bout 50 years ago. rick in Tennessee Still crazy after all these years. Well, not crazy regarding something bein in the woods. There was a story in the old Enquirer about a BF trying to grab a little girl near a remote single wide near the Memphis river bottoms. The dad shot and wounded "something" and law enforcement sent a tissue and blood sample to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. They could not identify the species that it came from. As you know testing had improved immensely since 1972 or '73. I'll shut up now. That laughing on your video just goes to show they "something" have a sense of humor. My time is about up but hope contact is made before I check out.
@TheAcceleratorMagazine Yes, please keep in touch and often. Don't hold it against me but I originated in the north west corner of Georgia. So, we got some similar roots.

Ain't In Great? Love it!
It's it Mildew or Mold? Just wondering. Works on battery acid corrosion too!
I don't have a clue? What would be your guess?
I would call it mildew
But as it, in the right condition, it could become more three D and might could be classified as mold.
Glad to see the channel is growing. Slowly but surely. Great content and keep up the good work.
Thanks. Grateful!!
I tried it before it works really good
Right there with you brother.
Those windows are spotless. I forgot newspaper could do that. Thanks!!!
You are mostest welcome!
@@SawdustandSweatNC I saw you posted a deer the other day and asked if you see them a lot. I didn’t see a response to that but I was asking because where I live they are around all the time. Sometimes I forget that that’s not normal for other places.
Yes, here there were very few say 35 years ago, but now we are overrun. Again, I didn't see ya. I do get you on my desktop but not on my phone........hum? Anyway, I'll find you sooner or later. Don't give up on me.
@@SawdustandSweatNC I won’t. I have the patience of a saint. 😊
Absolutely right, same for plaster and dry wall (after drying out). People use bleach but bleach will stay on surface and the water will penetrate feeding the mould. It is not that vinegar doesn't have water it is that the Ph that kill the mould.
Thanks for the additional information, I appreciate it.
@@SawdustandSweatNC you should be able to get distilled white vinegar by the gallon. Where I am it is know as non-brewed condiment as ti is not made the traditional way with mother of vinegar.
looks like you can buy Concentrated Vinegar in the US for weeds/patios.
@paulthomas8262 That's how I buy it. Thanks
@paulthomas8262 I'll have to check it out.
Vinegar is amazing stuff.
I crave it. Love it, anything with vinegar and count me in!
I could show this to the guys at home depot, thanks for the information!
Ha ha 😂 good one, but true.
Learned something new today, thank you sir :-).
Thanks, hope it works as good for you as it does for me.
EDIT **DO NOT DO THIS** EDIT Gotta be the one to add my 2 cents. What you could still do is hand tighten the cap then mark the bottom for a hole large enough for your biggest pass through wire/hose/whatever then when you pass the item through you can screw the cover back on. The wire/hose/whatever goes around in a circle as you tighten the cap - no rotating the item, just the cap. Still a good idea put into practice. EDIT **INSTEAD** EDIT Drill your hole from underneath the fitting and behind the screw on cover. Open the hole to a slot then your hose/wire hangs straight down when in use. When not in use, add a rubber stopper to the hole perhaps even putting a flat edge on the cap side. Bug and water resistant that way.
Yep, I can certainly see that as a possibility. Thanks for the insight.
You remind me of my son. Always thinking. Great Trait. Hope you never stop.
Nice
