I am retired from years of self employment and have traveled a lot. I visited China, Thailand, Europe and I spent 4 years in Guatemala. Its a second love. Such a beautiful country. I need to do something so I decided on RUclips. I am letting the channel find its direction. When I get a response I will go that way until something else strikes. I am open to suggestions of what people would like to see. I will let you know what I can do as I go along! Please don't hesitate to contact me with ideas and hints about techniques. I am always open!
Copper chimney pot attempt, part two.
I had a lot of trouble remembering to video because this was such a challenge! Shout out to @t.w.jaynes -Feral sheet metal worker- on Instagram for guidance! Check him out he's talented! I am looking forward to doing more finishing touches to the base. It needs some architectural detailing which is yet to come.

The last picture in video is what I am attempting to copy. I have it done, I just need to install it on chimney and its heavy and awkward. Then I will get rest of video edited!

Yellowed Coca-Cola thermometer

Just a short video about my attempt to salvage an old plastic Coca-Cola thermometer My nephew found in a building clean out. It was interesting to see this work. Now I no longer have to throw away items I figured wouldn't sell because of discoloration. #yellowplasticrepair, #collectablerepair, #plasticrestoration, #trashtotreasure, #yellowedplasticrestoration

Gerstner Leatherette machinist chest part 2!!
Us parchment paper so it doesn't stick to bench3
Nice job, but how could you not remove the drawer knobs before staining & finishing? It leaves dark shadows in the finish around the knobs.
Great work. I just bought an Excelsior tool chest. Plan to do the same.
I just finished a similar restoration of a WWII era Gerstner model 42. I also had to replace the top board of the front panel. Your video was an enormous help. Thanks.
Gerstner? No.
ruined
Мастер вы фантатически талантливый реставратор.Калассальный труд и невератно красивый результат. Браво вашему мастрству❤❤❤
Flatbar
I've redone a couple of those handles, the last one was for a chest like this one. You would think they would use something other than paper under the leather wrap. I still have to get the video edited for the last handle I did. Nice job on the refurb.
Did you ever find out about those 2 nails you mentioned in the beginning sir????
I would have knocked that pot of water over at some point. 😜
I love adding paste wax to the slides, to make them slide easier. Good job!
That is the model I am currently ‘restoring’. It had taken a nasty fall and some of the joints had partially separated. I am on the felt now and this video is a huge help.
What stain did you use?
That looks fantastic! I just came across one a couple wks ago. I’m about to clean it up, line the inside drawers with green leather and use it as a men’s jewelry box: watches, cuff links, rings, neck pieces, earrings and bracelets that I’ve accumulated over the many years.
That particular tool chest was manufactured by Sipco and marketed under the name Star. Conventional wisdom on the Internet is they were made from 1938 to 1948 but I actually believe they were made earlier than that.
Good video thank you sir
This guy is an artist!
Absolutely beautiful
Can someone please be able to let us know how we would be able to reach out to Mike? We'd love for him to give consideration in refurbishing our Gerstner 042, 11 drawer for us. Hard to find someone good nowadays. Thanks so much.
Go to my about section my email is there, sorry, I haven't been receiving notifications
GREAT Craftsmanship! How might we be able to reach out to you to have you consider doing a box of ours? (Please)
Did I miss something? Where's the part that shows the painting of the box? What kind of paint was used, how was it applied, and what color?
New handle from Gerstner???? They will just redo your leatherette for you, at a reasonable charge. What an idiot !
Coming back?
Where do you find your tool boxes. I like restoring things. These tool boxes look interesting.
they didnt get much done in 20 seconds lol
I can see painting the old leatherette--a vastly easier job than replacing it and it passes the user test. But for the handle, why not just buy a new handle from Gerstner? They still sell them--not cheap but also not likely to have the wood split when carrying a 100-pound box full of tools.
The customer declined spending the money...
Love the intro, nice personal touch.
Did you swap the engine?
Not yet, I'm tied up with other projects and there didnt seem to be much interest in seeing that.
Several tyro mistakes. Never put finish the tracks on tambor doors, use candle wax to lubricate instead. Back snd bottom panels should have been screwed on for repair ease of tambor door. All bottom holes on side panels should have been epoxy filled to stabilize the wood and harden it for screws.
Beautiful piece !
What an amazing job you did on this.
Fun channel! Please add some extended photos of the finished restoration and what it looked like before at then end in future videos.
Great job
Great job! My Dad who was a machinist had one of these cases.
Very nice!
Great job. Really love how it turned out! The front panel does not seem to have any hardware at the bottom - what keeps it from falling off?
There is a groove in the case and a spline on the door that goes in the groove!
New subscriber here from deep river Ontario Canada….love love love restoration videos… I like your channel good sir well done👊✌️👍😎🇨🇦your workbench looks like mine🤣🤣🤣🤣
My Dads Gerstner 52 had a tack my Dad had added to keep the front panel from moving to far backwards toward the drawers. If the front panel moved out out alignment the lock would not work.
The box you have is a National. Great job restoring it, i am hoping to restore my Union Steel after i retire.
An upholster’s trick ,when adding felt to all sides of a drawer, measure fabric to include height of the sides, cut fabric. On back of fabric, measure exact size of bottom and mark fully across the fabric. Where the lines intersect, cutout the extra square on each corner. Glue in fabric onto bottom and stretch to insure a good bond, glue sides and attach extra fabric onto sides of drawer. This takes less time and insures that there is no edge fabric except in corners of sides.
I know that a lot of folks avoid for the mess, but I use flocking so I don't have to do any cutting at all. Fitting drawer liners annoys me.
Thanks for sharing. You have more patience than I do. Great work with a very worn wood tool box. What part of Indiana, as we are also in Indiana, just across the river from Louisville.
North central. Thanks
According to Gerstner website, that handwritten number inside the main cabinet is the control number. That way all the pieces, that were hand fitted together, can be reassembled after finishing and hardware attachments, etc. I like how the chest pops back to life once the stain is applied, it looks great! Also, if anyone is interested, they have a service ($50) to identify the age, within a few years, of the tool chest. They sell the split rivets, felt, handles, corner brackets, and locks. I'm guessing that the one I inherited from my father, it is about half again as wide as the one you worked on here, is about 60 years old, I know he ordered it direct from the factory, not as a second hand purchase.
Thanks for the information. This wasn’t a Gerstner so parts from Gerstner aren’t appropriate. The Gerstner parts have their name stamped on them. I appreciate the views!
I'M NOT BUSY, LETS'S MAKE A FRONT OUT OF IT, GREAT VIDEO...
Love their reaction!!!
GREAT JOB, GREAT VIDEO, TELL EVERYBODY HELLO...
Just found your channel, like this video! Where in Indiana are you?
North Central
What a shame! I thought this would be a good video and topic! However: Your editing really doesn't help. There is little continuity. Not much in the way of Actual woodworking, just video showing pieces already done! I lot of time complaining. Poor workmanship in general. "It is, what it is" is not the comment of a good craftsman! Generally, it fits where it touches, is a fair appraisal of this Project.
DON'T FORGET THE CAT LIKE I DID LAST WEEK, IT RAIN A LITTLE, HE IS JUST NOW STARTING TO TALK TO ME...
