Anna Russell: Analysis of Verdi's "Nabucco"
Просмотров 15 тыс.9 лет назад
Anna Russell analyzes Verdi's "Nabucco," from a 1973 concert at the newly-opened Sydney Opera House. The first part of the talk is on the new opera house and on opera in general. This is one of her lesser-known opera talks, but it is very funny (especially if you know "Nabucco").

St. Thomas' Episcopal School Orchestra, Houston, Texas - 2013 State Champions, 3A Instrumental, at the TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) State Music Competition in Belton, Texas, April 13, 2013. Playing the Barcarolle from Offenbach's "Les Contes d'Hoffmann," arr. S. Dackow. Director: Sherrill Calvert.
No one could play Rachel like Olivia de Havilland. This one is death's head at the feast.
Lastima que no esta en portugues😢
One thing I could never understand: After killing the monster who is about to kill Tamino, why do the Three Rat Bags send Tamino on a courageous mission? Their reasoning is that he is fit for the mission if he is as brave as he is handsome, Has there been a carefully controlled study which found that courage correlates closely with good lucks? Besides, the Three Rat Bags just accomplished a brave deed themselves. If you ask me, if there is anyone who should be sent on a brave mission, it's the Three Rat Bags!
I think it would have helped if Mozart and Company *hadn't* thrown in all that Masonic stuff. Granted at the time Free Masonry was much more of a fad than it is now, but that doesn't excuse making the plot all convoluted.
Phillip is acting like a school boy. I haven't ever seen a more immature 24 soon to be a 25 year old. She is playing him.
Now I see the crying but is it sincere?
I haven't read the book nor have I seen this movie but I don't trust Rachel. I also can't believe Phillip is so foolish. I certainly would have been looking for the other letters his cousin Ashley wrote that he had written. Her husband only recently died and I have seen Rachel cry or look sad. Where is her grief? She is trying to get the entire estate seducing Phillip.
Please, where is part 2?
I've been looking for this for years! My parents were Australian Opera subscribers and were at both the premieres of War and Peace (first opera performed at the Sydney Opera House in 1973) and The Magic Flute (performed before the Queen just before the SOH official opening a few weeks later). And in the souvenir program for TMF - now long lost 🙁- there was this recording (but only Act 1, up to 15:35 ), a 7-inch record to be played at 33 rpm. It must have been a rush job to get it recorded and pressed in time. She moved to Australia shortly after this and I saw her once in Milsons Point, having a typically animated conversation.
She is so thin, she's skeletal!
This is masterful emotional manipulation. Watching this is a torment, one I doubt I will be able to bear.
I read the book before I watched the film. I felt so sorry about Philip and didn’t feel any sorry about Rachel death
Am I the only one who’s watching this in 2024😅?
Just joined you 29 December 2024.hahahahhahaan
This is my second BBC series I've watched and I realized that the stories endings are sad and gloomy and not complete!!!
Don't waste your time on this one
Watching August 2024
Oh dear, he's such an idiot, and unpleasantly arrogant at the same time.
So many nasty comments about Gerladine Chaplin, I find her rather well suited for a du Maurier story of this kind!
Does anyone believe Rachel poisoned Ambrose and that she was going after the estate?
I saw another film with my mum called Rachel and she went over the cliff on her.horse must be a new film I liked the plot
I don’t know this story - but I am only part way- I suspect she poisoned him so she could inherit!
This was well done with excellent acting - however, i didnt really understand it. She was poisoning him? Protecting him ? (saving the jewels until he inherited), In the end he found no evidence of her treachery (letters). Rinaldi was …..who? What? A lot of loose ends that I didnt understand - who was the money being sent to? and why? Confusing. But enjoyed it nonetheless. 😂
Had not heard of this movie or book but saw it was a Du Maurier and had to watch. Thank you!!
I never new until I watched this that laburnum are poisonous.quite scary really
So does he get his $$$$ back????

Very depressing to watch. Truly disheartening and I've no idea, why anyone would film such a thing. Hoped for something beautiful, but stopped halfway, as it didn't come.
Miscast Anorexic with zero temptress allure.
Any series adapted by Hugh Whitmore was always good news in 70's and 80's
Yes, very well done indeed. And glad now I watched to the end. The subtleties and twists lead to a very powerful narrative. At the beginning of this final episode, I had no sympathy left for Philip, with his arrogance and unthinking assumption he could buy this woman... combined with her sophisticated manipulation of him. Not a lot of sympathy for her, either - but that was how it was presented. Maybe he learned something from all this...
This is extremely well done... but very hard to watch! We can all see what is coming, the only question is just how bad it will be!
nothing worse then using foreign language in a film with no subtitles!
Currently got 20 minutes left of the audio book. I'd read that the recent film adaptation was pretty bad so searched on RUclips and found this!
He follows her around like a puppy
Love this ! Thank you
I have read all of Daphne Du Marrier novels...Rebecca Glass blowers ...My cousin Rachel...it's great to watch the adaptation..enjoying...❤

well you reap what you sow and she sure could fool anyone with her lies and self absorbed self.
WHAT THE HELL
I CAN'T BELIEVE I WASTED MY TIME WATCHING A FOOL
THAT KISS CHANGED HIS WHOLE THOUGHT ABOUT HER ,
SHE IS SOOOO UNATTRACTIVE, MANLY EVEN.
Why is the back ground always so loud in these English movies🙉 If the tumor didn’t get him the noise of the bugs would😂😊
CRAP 😂
A believable story. Who truly knows what lays behind anyone's appearance or words? I've come to dislike fairytale endings. They are too tidy and cheerful. Not lifelike. They do not compel any further thought. They are for the lazy mind; always looking for the easy conclusions.
The Novel is Horrible Extremely Overrated as is this and every other version of it on Film. It is Horrible because it is poorly written. The Characters are extremely unrealistic. The Writing is Manipulating. The Author doesn't create a Mystery or anything convincing she has the main characters behave one way than another (Schizophrenia) for No credible reason other than to propel her contrived story. Neither men as she wrote them would be interested in Rachel they were both sworn bachelors. She would Not have had a chance with either one of them. I hate it when writers go to great lengths to establish Characters than have them do a 180, to make the Plot they want possible. This is completely manipulative and BAD writing.
Typical gaslighting. Yikes!
SHE IS YOUNG HERE .....BUT HE LOOKS SO MUCH YOUNGER ....JUST MY OPINION..........AT 4:33 THERE WAS A PHALIC SYMBOL ..TO THE LEFT OF THE SCREEN ..?????..
Don’t drink and type.
She definitely was about money, she made herself right at home and act like she owned the place from the beginning. She got what she deserved, nothing.
