St. Francis Prayer - Margaret Bonds
The University of Utah Chamber Choir performs Margaret Bonds' beautiful setting of St. Francis Prayer. Bonds wrote this piece in 1968 but it was unpublished until 2020. This setting was part of a concert called The 42 Project, a world premiere by Adrian Dunn celebrating the 75th anniversary since Jackie Robinson integrated Major League Baseball.

Thank you for this beautiful performance!
Nice performance, but the piece is called "To Agni," as in, it is a hymn to the god Agni, and the title is in English as is the text.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!
I just did this song with my choir today in the same auditorium lol
Try his "O Magnum Mysterium" if you've never heard it.
Beautiful!! Translation sounds good too!
Good job, guys. by far the best rendition I've found on RUclips so far!
Spellbindingly beautiful
Thank you, Anna.

I’m doing this in my choir concert tomorrow for school
I love your style of conducting and leading, omg!
Hey Truvonn, thank you so much. Take care.
That’s my mentor Austin Thorpe! He’s been a leader and example of hard work and greatness to me since I met him, he took over at my high school in the school’s second year and his first year teaching high school he lead us to great heights immediately even when others doubted us and swept us and him under the carpet because of their skepticism towards us for being a new school and him a new teacher, and we proved them wrong! And he never looked back nor skipped a beat but has lead each place he’s gone to greatness among the current greats and those whom he taught have only flourished always being something greater than how he first found them. He is a champion
Thank you, Dallan. ❤️
Exquisite!
Thank you!

Dear Raymond, thank you so much for leaving a comment and listening to the video. Best to you.

Beautiful thank you, God bless you Amen 🙏🏻
Thank you, Pauline.

as someone that comes from the islands and someone that represents the hawaiian and samoan culture, please respect and know the meaning and pronunciation of what your saying
Dear Jaren, I agree whole heartedly. In that spirit, I asked one of the students who shares your culture and heritage to help me with the pronunciation of Tokelauan as I taught the students. I admitted to the students my short comings and inexperience with this beautiful language, but I was thrilled that they had the opportunity to sing the text and music from such an impactful movie that I personally love and have seen many times. Thank you so much for your comment! Tatou o tagata folau e vala’auina E le atua o le sami tele e o mai Ia ava’e le lu’itau e lelei Tapenapena We are voyagers summoned by the mighty gods, Of this mighty ocean to come, We take up the good challenge, Get ready. Aue, aue Nuku i mua Te manulele e tataki e Aue, aue te fenua, te malie, Nae ko hakilia mo kaiga e. Oh! oh! There is land up ahead, A bird in flight to take us there, Oh! oh! This beautiful land, The place i was looking for, We will make our home.
Yeah I thought it was a bit of a suspicious choice too.
Who says they are not trying to? Anyone speaking a foreign language is going to have a thick accent and "mispronounce" words. Is a person who speaks English as a second language and mispronounces some words disrespecting English? Should they not speak it?
@@amenenema474 in hawaiian and samoan, some words have multiple meanings, for example a word can mean love and death. or a word can be very similar to one that can be disrespectful if you don’t say it right. for example, in hawaiian moa means chicken and maa can mean stink. if you mispronounced moa for maa, it completely changes the sentence.
@@TMSBobi And English is somehow different? English is probably one of the hardest second languages to learn because you have words that are literally spelled exactly the same but could mean 2 completely different things and you have to go specifically on context. They are trying to sing a beautiful song and they did fantastic. Everyone knows the song they were trying to sing and I guarantee that if they performed that in front of a theater full of people who natively spoke that language, they would be clapping at the end nonetheless. The critique is okay, but for not speaking that language and deciding to give it a go, they did phenomenal.
I always listen to this whenever I have panic and anxiety attacks...especially on these times... It helps me on relief. Thanks you Mr Conductor and choir. Godbless you all
Dear Porgy En Bes, I am so grateful that this music can serve you in that way.
Yes sir, I often got teary eyed when I started listening to some liturgical songs as well, and I am really glad that I bumped into your performance and indeed you are a great teacher sir, on the other hand it Inspires me to be more passionate as well towards my teaching in a school as a guitar ensemble teacher. And I love how you conduct vigorously sir such amazing to watch :) have a great day sir Godbless always
Impresiv sekali😭
Thank you!
I hear angels
this is an excellent cover of the song well done
Thank you!
A beautiful Concert! Especially by a High School Choir!
Thank you so much.
Fun to hear them respond to your instruction.
I am doing observation hours for my music Ed degree and I love your pacing and the clarity within it!! What music are they singing??
Hello Tiffany, thank you. They are singing Matthew Harris's "Object Lesson." Here is a link to the performance that followed: ruclips.net/video/YHOV4b2jUMw/видео.html And here is a link to my channel for other choral music content: ruclips.net/channel/UCTE6wu0ZTVjElYVIYM2JRDQ This particular ensemble rehearsed outside of class time (this rehearsal shown was on Martin Luther King Jr. day), but when I left to pursue a doctoral degree I made sure that this ensemble became its own class.
This is great and very relevant to my Master research. Thank you for placing this online. A detail I missed was that some diacritics could help in clarifying some of the ambiguities one can run into when using an IPA transcription. In the case of the sound in between [e] and [ɛ], one could use diacritics like ̝or ̞ to indicate a vowel being raised or lowered (i.e. more closed or more open, respectively). That could then result in [ɛ̝] or [e̞]. In fact, officially, instead of writing [e / ɛ], one *should* write [ɛ̝] or [e̞], as square brackets are generally reserved for what is known as a "narrow transcription". In general, less detailed IPA transcriptions should be surrounded by forward slashes to indicate a broad transcription. (E.g. "cool" is [kʰul] or /kul/.) Of course this is nitpicking, and most of these diacritics are needless complications for an IPA transcription for singers. In general, I try to stick to placing my transcriptions between slashes, though some diacritics really help me in pronunciation details, like the abovementioned ʰ. (The amount of simplification of the IPA and perhaps its diacritics for singers is something I intend to base my Master research on, though I'm still working on the exact research question.)
This is amazing! This deserves millions of likes!
Thanks Buggy Von!
Good content. Keep up the good work! I recommend you google SMZeus . c o m!! I’ve been using it to promote my main channel and it helped me get my videos higher in the search results!!
Those vowels were striking ! First thing I noticed. Watched later and now I can see why! Good work, choir sounds really really great
Thank you! I have learned a lot since then!
A wonderful lesson in IPA with great examples! I've seen this careful attention to details pay off in extraordinary sounds coming from Austin's high school singers as well as his new ensemble, Essere! θeɪŋk ju ɑstɪn!
those T’s are CRISP
An exemplary conductor!
So beautiful!
bravo Austin!!!
Too bad technical did not work well, we are getting nothing but black outs and static. I'm so sad.
Don't be sad. In the next couple of weeks I will be putting up the individual pieces from the performance on RUclips. And, you can go to my Facebook page and watch the majority of the concert.
I'm there!!! I can't wait!!!
My man, RSL!!!
This is so cool! Thank you Austin!!
This is beautiful! Awesome job!
This is so awesome! Great job 👏👏👏
Congratulations on the PhD. Keep posting please. Your conducting technique is exciting and the excellence you demand of your ensembles is so impressive. Staheli made quite an impression on you as you will on your students. You might find yourself the subject of a dissertation yourself someday. Best...
Thank you for the kind comment. The complete dissertation will be available soon. There is so much to learn from Dr. Staheli. His teaching will influence me the rest of my life. There is definitely new content coming in September!
